5 months ago I started working in UE5, and felt completely lost. I learned basic stuff, but seemed like everyone was still trying to figure it all out. Then when 5.1 came out, I felt completely lost yet again. So I made the switch to UE4, due to there being about a decade of people who have created so much content covering it. This tutorial is my first step into UE4.

@Astrum Sensei - The fix for the jog Forward anims is there are 2 different ones in Mixamo, they both say "jog forward diagonal", however one is jogging left and the other right. Simply rename the animations and match them accordingly. Easy fix :P I think someone already said this, just clarifying for anyone currently going through this awesome series. I am really enjoying your series so far, very in-depth and detailed. You're awesome. Can't wait to learn more!

Future suggestion, use alt for walk. Nobody likes caps lock being on after they type something and don't realise they had it on. Also tab is a very bad idea as a lot of people are used to alt. So they'd change from the game to another window every time in Windows. I do understand why you didn't do this in Unreal, alt + S is a key bind by default... But yeah on packaged games alt all the way. Also another side note, add a delay switch of around 0.5 seconds if you wish to go from sprinting to walking, this allows time to transition into the running animation. Not trying to be annoying, I learned a lot and I am very appreciative.

Considering the few and far between unreal engine tutorials, I could see this series being a good land mark practice piece for creators in the future. you should be proud of your work.

Hey Guys. If you want to mirror the diagonal animation, you have to trim it in Mixamo. But keep in mind the frames when you trimmed must be exactly the same. (Frames are written beside the trim)So before you mirror it the animation starts with the right foot, and when you mirror it trim it to start whith the right foot again. Thanks for the tutorial Sensei.

Great Tutorials so far, always wanted to set up the character first but few other tutorials go in-depth. Can't wait to get into the battel mechanics. Great Job. Thanks.

Day 2: While the subject matter is pretty simple, I managed to follow it all the way through without problems :) good tutorial. The only struggles I have come to face off against are the struggles of, for some reason, having UE4 in Spanish, which makes it a bit tedious since things that are named in English take a little bit of work to find them with their respective names in Spanish.

I added a Timeline to the run sprint so that I get a 2 second from run to sprint and a 5 second to sprint back to run. Works great

Very good tutorial indeed. Thanks! This is a little late, but if you want to have smooth left and right turn, just add running animation to left and right at 400 beside run. (Mixamo has one good animation called "Fast Run", which is very good in this blend space) Do the same for the sprint, but same sprint animation at 400. No weird glitches for me ;)

by the way not sure if you ever fix the jog diagonal or not but putting it out there anyway. if you pay attention to the jog Forward Diagonal on mixamo there is 2 of them that have the proper left and right instead of using the mirror function and it fixes that glitch :)

Im having a weird bug. Whenever I added the sprint animation to the blend space, the character starts twitching between the sprint animation and whatever animation that is currently active. Is there an easy fix, or did i fuck something up

one thing i did for my walking and sprinting, (kinda like what was said about going from sprinting back to walking, i made it so the character has to be running to sprint and cant go straight from walking to sprinting (i looked at how the witcher 3 does it)

@nothingspeaks4 жыл бұрын
i dont get why you have to get the diagonal anims, it looks fine without it to me
@AstrumSensei4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it would still work. But for me it looks better specially since the Mixamo don't blend together well when you don't use the diagonal animations
@mojo1989be4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the series, will you be adding adding walking backwards? instead of turning 180 degrees and walking/running? i cant seem to make it work :( tried different things
@AstrumSensei4 жыл бұрын
There are two checkboxes in the character blueprint for that, you can try "orient character rotation to movement". Let me know if it doesn't work
