When manoeuvring in an automatic car it’s all about brake control. Unless you are trying to move uphill, never let go of the brake pedal - just lift a touch to move, and press a little to stop. Very fine movements are all you need to move slowly. Good luck 🤞🏼

One and a half times length of your car as a gap is still generous. You need to learn how to park in a space that you can’t fit a cigarette paper between the car in front and the one behind ! That’s magic : it can be done; but it can’t be taught !
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
We would never try and park in a gap that small, as it would be very easy to touch the cars we are parking between and cause damage. Far better to look for a larger gap!

Useful video thanks. What you don't mention is that the front of the car swings out further than its original position when reversing and turning, especially with full lock. Isn't this a hazard when parking on narrower roads with parked cars on the opposite side of the space you're moving into (i.e. parked cars on the right side of the road when you're parking on the left side)?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can be tricky to parallel park in narrow streets that have double-parked cars. We would position closer to the car we are parking behind, to give us a little more space to turn. Perhaps we’ll try to show this in a future video 👍🏼

I never have a tecnique when doing parallel.. i do it everyday cus i dont have a driveway at home and its mostly very tight. Some days i can do in one go.. some with alot of adjustments.. but really it doesnt matter how many times you adjust.. as long as its slow and safe... also.. you have to be considerate of the parked cars in front and back and have an even space inbetween for them to also be able to get out. I hate it when they parked too close infront of me or behind me and i almost couldnt get out the next day *sigh*

The picture quality is stunning. I wonder what car that is: it's beautiful. My only disappointment is that we did not get to see the 'moves' from outside of the car. As helpful as this video is, the people behind you kept their distance. I’ve had to abort when people have been right up my backside on a busy high street because they prevent me from getting into the space. This is despite signalling and giving plenty of notice. What makes it even more demoralising is when they then steal your space and have a much larger car.

@AdvanceDrivingSchool5 жыл бұрын
We always try to leave the same gap at both ends of our car to reduce this problem catching us out. If someone does park really close, then we will have to resort to 'dry steering' and shuffling forwards and backwards to get out. If you have another person to guide you it can help in a tight spot, or if not reflections in shop windows or nearby cars are helpful.

There is no need for comments like that! It's just that we don't consider that rigidly sticking to antiquated ideas about steering technique has any benefit - in fact it can even be a distraction from other hazards. There are better things to focus on in the limited time we have with each pupil, such as forward planning and anticipation - as those skills will help someone be safe far more than how they hold the steering wheel.

@@michaelrauch4017 Pull Push steering has never been advocated for reversing or maneuvering in tight spaces. Speed of movement not accuracy or smoothness is the key here - one is simply applying alternate full lock rapidly whilst moving slowly.
