Thanks Ben, I used my Reckless 80 in summer on my Transalp and I'd have to agree with everything you said. I love how secure it is especially with the gnoblin, over 4500KM I never noticed any movement, flapping etc. I also really like that I don't need rack mounts just the otherwise unnoticeable gnoblin but it does take some work to git and like you it doesn't really feel like a full 80 litres. That said I.do really like it and there are no regrets on it at all, I ordered mine last Black Friday as a discontinued colour so it was a relative bargain

I've got a Baofeng UV5R in my tank bag connected to an old cell phone to run APRS for tracking and use an adapter to connect a UT-72" antenna. It does better than the stock antenna or an upgraded whip, but one of the big benefits of getting your GMRS license and a GMRS-capable (no test required) radio is being able to use regional repeaters that greatly expand your range. You might end up having to share them with others, but if you program them into your radio, they're an option to reach people beyond line of sight.

I do like my Turkana gear. Pretty customizable, sturdy so far, and decently light weight. Their rackless system is basically a molle harness and then you can attach any bags you want.

While I think you can do more with amateur radio when licensed and being setup with repeaters, you can still have line of site issues you experienced and everyone should be licensed. I've heard some off-roaders have moved from CB to GMRS with higher wattage and sometimes a base station (not practical for a BDR). I wonder about the satellite feature built into the new iPhones. Hopefully that becomes a thing with other phones. Imagine if everyone had at least non-media text capability to / from almost everywhere. You stop, pop a message with your coordinates and wait for a response. Like inreach, but on every phone. Maybe someday starlink will have something to compete. A month subscription to inreach or whatever during the BDR seems practical, but its a lot of setup and the device is a little spendy. It's cheap assurance, but not inexpensive to jump into.

I've got a 65w henhot battery pack off of Amazon with a usb-c adapter and an airmini that I take on motorcycle camping trips. The battery pack will last about a night and a half, and I've been considering getting a larger one. I keep two and try to charge them during the day

It’s not just you. No way my Rackless 80 holds what 80 liters should hold. I honestly feel it’s closer to 60-65 liters. I have to add a 40 liter dry bag to the top to fit the gear “I” like to take. Now that doesn’t mean I don’t think they are not worth the money, they are, they are just not as big as advertised in my opinion.

Sounds like the luggage might be designed more for higher speed cross country (non dirt) where most motorcyclists would need to bring their heavy gear into a hotel nightly. Weight would therefore not be prohibitive.

Ben, I was about to file you under the disingenuous influencer category. But, you did drop some good critical comments. This concerns Mosko stuff. Disclaimer, I have a lot of their gear, a lot... Now, you at least dropped some true comments as to the jacket - It is a heavy, poorly ventilated, limited use case jacket - way overpriced for what it is, and yes, far too hot/ poor ventilation design for anything other than shoulder season use - for the price, not OK. I don't think there is anything wrong with constructive real-world criticism. That jacket needs a redesign. The R80 - again, I agree fully. It's heavy as hell, cumbersome, unyielding in terms of expandability and limiting in terms of stuffability. It looks cool, though and offers some cred with the Kool Kids off-road...for what that's worth. I speculate Pete and company have finally grasped this, which is why they are coming out with their Alpine/ Explorer line. I hope you don't candy-coat your reviews and keep your credibility intact. Cheers.
