Adventure Seeking On A Rare Sunny Day

WAY back... in April...The Sun came out!!! And so did Falkor :)
I went out to find a dirt road I'd only done once before, but that time I was on a GS650!!
How would Falkor handle it?

I can't even remember what I did on Anzac Day. I love it when farmers block the whole road having a chat like that! I've experienced that more than once! You could always upgrade the Honda for a V-Strom, no need to go all out and get a BMW! 🤣

Many thanks mate! Yes, a nice bike, pretty sure Wyvern Biker (a Brit motovlogger who came and toured with us in 2017) hired a F700GS while he was here. A bit more capable on the highway than the 650 I reckon.

Yes, they are made cheaper, lose grip and just aren't what the once were Tony :( I recently got their tiny, mirror stem mount - so far so good, it's better than their other mounts so far. Love my coffee on the road mate 😁

Was good to tag along on your rideout mate. I know I'm a bike floozy, but the best bike for anything is the bike a person has, just coz other bikes can do something better, doesn't mean it is a better bike. Your magpies are badass... chasing eagles 😀 Hope you avoided the rain on the way home?

Absolutely mate, I've never been a well-off person in any way, I was a single parent for 10 years and really struggled, so when I got to the point I could afford my own, brand new bike, I felt extremely grateful, and still do every day! I learned how to befriend Australian Magpies... one REALLY does not want to be their enemy!! Put the bike away and walked indoors just as the rain hit, Pete :)

Absolutely agree with you, total respect to all, that actually fought the wars, and zero respect to those that caused the wars! Cable ties (Velcro strap and Parra Cord) are definitely an adventure rider's best friend! Having a fair dinkum, genuine thermos, is definitely the best way to have hot drink on the go. Your right, when you say that the CB500X can handle anything as long as you treat it with care. So many riders seem to be obsessed with getting from A to B in the fastest time, instead of actually just enjoying actual adventure, between A and B Fantastic to see that you discovered new pathways, by simply getting lost. On a bit of a sidetrack comment, (after you've got down and dirty) how do you clean your jacket? Is it a Gore Tex jacket, Cap'n?

I love my Thermos - and I use "Dog & Gun" coffee bags - can recommend if you like proper coffee mate. Good people (who I do know personally) - available on-line from Brissie. Get the "naked" ones - not individually wrapped. My Jacket isn't Goretex, it's the DriRider ADV Jacket from about 5 years or more back. I just hand wash in a giant sink and let it drip dry, same with the linings. Thanks for the view and comments Sean - always appreciated.

I 'fixed' my speedo drive with gaffa tape and cable ties, it worked perfectly for over 400 miles and probably would have for the next 3K.... or more🙂 (The speedo didn't matter but I wanted the Odometer as I haven't got a fuel guage or a warning light and I was on a 'mini tour') I'm pretty sure Neil Young wasn't singing about action camera mounts if I'm honest. 😬 I don't like spending money on bikes or cars either.... I bought my bike 'new' 39 years ago....my car was 6 years old when I bought it off a work colleague, I've 'only' owned that 20 years. 😲

I think it would take more than a suspension upgrade for me to be good offroad, even with the bigger front wheel 😀

Actually, 8 years ago I was very inexperienced, but noticed a massive difference in the good suspension!!

Yes - but no due to the money. I basically try to make do with some very old cameras!! Luckily, as a musician and producer who has had a studio for more than 40 years, I enjoy editing!!

Actually - as well. each of my cameras has it's own mic, so I have a lot of choices for the sound also :)

Basically - it takes me up to 30 hours to review footage and edit each video (having up to 9 cameras doesn't help) and I only recently finished editing and uploading the big trip from March - so pretty much being a couple of Months behind is normal for me. I do make exceptions when something is particularly exciting for me - like the recent trip with Allen down the Old Grafton Road :)

One of his brothers was with the Machine Gun Corps and was KiA in 1917.
