For the context, James Baxter is a legendary animator and he's the one who animated and voiced the horse. If you see some suddenly smooth animation in western cartoon, it's probably James being guest animator, e.g. in finale of Steven Universe when Steven and his gem self are fusing while hugging, that was also animated by James Baxter

James Baxter is also very famous for his work on Spirit Stallion Of The Cimarron, horses are infamously hard to animate so that might also be why his character on Adventure Time is a horse

If I recall the further context of this was Pendleton Ward (creator of Adventure Time) was in an animation class with James Baxter as a guest (?) lecturer and Baxter was taking suggestions and someone suggested he animate a horse balancing on a beach ball; which he politely declined as he was teaching them, so went with simpler examples. Years later Pendleton Ward asked for him to animate as a guest animator and go figure, he picked the horse on a beach ball and named it after James lol

I remember the "Shh" episode had a memorial card at the end for a crew member that died, and the episode was meant as a "moment of silence" in respect for him. Also, love James Baxter, the horse James Baxter and the real James Baxter. The guy is amazingly talented.

Anyway, I love BMO that little game console is one of the best characters in the show, and definitely the most adorable. I love all the major roles he's been getting this season. Also, for the title card of "James Baxter the Horse" it shows James drawing on a traditional Disney animation desk. Which is only fitting given that he's one of the most legendary animators of all time.

I didn't see you catch it, but the Princess Potluck is the same day as BMO Noire from last season. BMO goes on a long detective hunt to find Finn's sock and Lorraine hid it in their secret kissing spot. Jake has the same paint, Finn is missing a sock when he left and has a tortilla sock when he returns, and Finn drops a sea lard at the end of BMO Noire.

I love how this shows how much people naturally love BMO. The girls come over because BMO just asked for a dance party, BMO probably went up to them randomly and asked. Bubble fell for BMO in one episode. BMO is my favorite character and I love them.

Gunther's name has more than one pronunciation because some writers put umlauts in the script and some didn't, so Tom Kenny interpreted it as Ice King talking to a different penguin. It was never intentional.

The way adventure time aired originally, the episodes were shown in pairs. So the intro would play, you'd see the opening card of the first episode and then the episode, which would then transition straight into the opening card of the second episode, and then after the second episode, the credits would play. Looks like hbo split apart the episode pairs into their own separate episodes, which means that every first episode of the pair needs to have a credit scene added, and every second episode of the pair needs to have an intro added. I suspect that's the reason why the intro's and endings don't always seem to line up (getting james baxter in the credits before the actual episode).

Man, I just love this episodes! s5ep17's ending can be interpreted as a metaphor for losing someone when that someone dies. They may leave their physical body, but their spirit and true essence survive and become free. That's smth Adventure Time definitely can touch. And s5ep19 showed us that no matter how hard we try, even a well-intentioned, well done immitation cannot replace the original. Which is fine, inspiring even. Not my favourite 4 episodes of the season, but definitely great ones.

⁠@@CaptainCFalcon From all I’ve seen, BMO has gone through the show being referred to as “she” and “he”. BMO canonically has no gender, or can be considered agender. Though I don’t know if Non-binary would be the right way to describe him either as you can literally refer to BMO as either a girl or boy and he clearly doesn’t have an issue with being referred by either gender. Maybe a technical non-binary, but not completely non-binary.
