Boy! Hillary when you fell carrying half a boat I screamed! I'm wearing headsets so that only means the scream was louder than I thought it was. Geez. Be careful.

Good job on Hillary's haircut Ty! Back in the 70's my hubby cut my hair too. He hasn't done that for a long time now😎. Always enjoy your videos. We live in WA, on the other side of the Cascades. Take care.

Good vid ya'll, looking good so far, it does look like there is a lot of water damage where the traveler bolts were coming through.

hey guys Just a small suggestion , I noticed that you didn't renew the stainless bolts on the traveler. Stainless gets brittle after 20 years, and those bolts looked they had already started to deteriorate. Just thought you would have replaced them. cheers

Please use a dust mask when sanding, cutting etc. My uncle refurbished a canal boat in the UK and failed to use a mask. Cancer resulted from the fine particles. He then lost his sight due to Radiotherapy, which in turn meant that the boat had to go and he could no longer sketch. And then in time he lost the battle with cancer. A little discomfort from a mask is minimal in comparison.

I’m a huge fan of butyl tape for deck hardware fasteners. I’ve had to re-bed a couple of stanchions and did it very similarly to how you did with countersinking and wrapping the fasteners. The shorter haircut is very flattering! Good job Ty!

I hope you didn’t get hurt when you fell down, Hillary. Also, did you plan the timing of the lyrics in the background song? If you did... well played. If not, go back and watch where you fell... and listen to the song lyrics right afterward. :-)

Thanks for another great video. I appreciate the step by step with Butyl tape. I’ve been playing around with it for years, just using the doughnuts and have been getting mixed results. I have not thought to put a collar around the head of the screw. That trip had to hurt - and I didn’t hear any sailor language. Can you tell me the model of your dinghy? I watched you build the last one and am intrigued.
@AdventureAdriftSailing
@AdventureAdriftSailing 4 жыл бұрын
It was some slippery ground, but luckily the dinghy helped to break the fall.. This dinghy is the Danny Green Chameleon, which is what we had originally hoped to build but couldn't get access to the plans.

surely the boats designed for anchor chain up front. do you have to go below and flake chain each time you leave anchoarge? that would piss me off.
@AdventureAdriftSailing
@AdventureAdriftSailing 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, need to flake everytime. A bit of a pain, but we think if balances the boat much better, less chance of the bow digging in. Unfortunately, boat builders/designers don't generally take into account how a boat will be used/loaded, especially when outfitted for more rugged cruising. Typically, boats wouldn't be expected to carry an all-chain rode - 100 feet of chain and rope rode is probably standard, but adding an extra 200 ft of 3/8 chain is a lot of extra weight.

I mean only the best for you two nice people. I had an unprotected eye injury and it is a scary thing. You can get better or you may not, as it may be. Its not a matter of always getting better; many times its an irreversible injury. Eye protection can save you from catastrophe. Best Regards.
