The Civic Type R is an amazing car but it seems like almost every person who reviews the car leaves out the downsides of this car. After owning this car I tell you the negatives of owning this car.

I am ‘Confused’ on what I just watched. Track focused car…Fuel Economy, Sound Insulation, Cost of Tires, Chassis Feel are Your concerns? What are KZbin Car Reviews coming to? Lot of other Civic options…EX, LX, Sport. I am convinced these types of videos are intended to throw “Type R Ownership” in the face of others or boredom. #BeGrateful

It’s more of things car reviewers don’t usually mention. Yes it is a track focused car but people do still buy this car as a daily driver and not just a weekend track car. I think they should just be informed on some down sides if they do plan to use the car as a daily. I bought this car as my only car and was not aware of these things before I bought it. I love the car still.

@@ThePropperWay i daily drive mine and love it, you buy a Type R expecting to be driving a track focused car that is CAPABLE of daily driving.... yes the tires are loud yes the mileage is worse, and id say you should look into different gas and your driving style, i average 26 beating mine a bit and the highway i average 29-32 on good 91 octane

Why are you people dogging this guy? He made a video to point out the 'downsides' of owning the car. He literally says, "...that no one talks about." Like every damn thing you buy, it can be amazing asf, but... You can still love it in the end. Or consider something else maybe thanks to this video.

CarExpert from Australia talked about mileage and kept it brief, so you're wrong about other car reviewers not talking about MPGs. Any vehicle with "performance" attached to it WILL be thirsty, unless it's a hybrid of course. And car enthusiasts ain't gonna care about fuel economy anyways. They buy the Type R, knowing that they will be at the gas station more often than a Prius.

I understand the side of not tracking it. Most cars like this aren't tracked but most reviews put a lot of emphasis on that side of the equation. Since you don't track the car one thing you can do is when you need to replace the tires is get a set of UHP A/S tires like the Michelin PS AS4 or Continental DWS 06+. They are about 95% as good on dry pavement but better on wet so for street driving they are more than good enough, and they last a lot longer and cost less.

Just a caution to other potential buyers: I would do more research on a car instead of just looking at the hype before buying it. I would go with the SI if I were looking for something more… economic in all aspects while still having the sporty feel to the car. There’s a whole heritage with SI in the US as that was the best type of Civic you could get for years before the FK8. If I’m planning on tuning and/or wanting a “race car” *feel* to my car while still being *able* to do other normal (non-racing/track) activities, I would go with the Type R. If you’re buying a Civic Type R for drag racing, (off the lot) you’re buying it for the wrong reason. It’s made for circuits, not drag strips… In terms of all the other economic aspects mentioned (gas mileage, tires, etc.) , I wouldn’t go based off the reputation Honda has for being economic. I would go based on the Type R reputation of being a car you could take racing on the weekends and still do usual/normal errands any other time. There's a whole plant/factory Honda is using just for the assembly and release of the Type R and the money went more into the performance of the car while retaining the heritage of the front-wheel-drive hatchback first released a long time ago. If you want EVEN MORE luxury, because Type Rs before this and the FK8 were even less convenient, I would go with the Integra Type S.

You're keeping it real, good comments. I'm in break-in driving easy, short shifting at 4K and getting 27mpg for the first 250 miles. Expected a little better, annoying but not a deal breaker. Coming from STI's, I'm fine with sport on the road and consider it easily livable for a daily. Will probably switch to 18's, stock tires are overkill on the street.

Hey man I’m not gonna attack you like some folks. You are doing a review of a car that most don’t have and good for you. I will say that the car is deceivingly sold as a daily driver. Yes, it’s a Civic but it’s built like a second or third car in that 2-3 car garage line up. Everything that seems as a negative is intentional: road noise due to tire size, fuel economy due to it being a high compression turbo motor and suspension because the car was set up for track times and not for commuting comfort. These are all gripes that are even found in the Porsche 911 GT3/GT3RS cars…. That is what it’s trying to be at a much lower cost point. Also if anyone is out there trying to drag one of these.. probably are in the wrong car. This isn’t nor has it ever been part of the Type-R bag of tricks.

I kind of feel that way about the GR Corolla. They hyped that car up to be so exclusive, and limited, and within 6 months after I got a Core model they started shipping more Circuit Editions. On top of that they made better modifications to the 24’ model over the 23.

@@ThePropperWay I wouldn’t dare track the GR Corolla until I got a better inter cooler for it. It has heating issues when ran like that for a short time. I’d do a few laps, and call it a day. Always buy the wheel and tire package. I drive a 2023 Elantra N DCT and same tires basically as Type R and $350 per tire. Had a flat and had it replaced free. I get 15 MPG on Premium fuel in the N mode which is the R mode in Type R. Trading my Elantra N for a 2024 Type R as soon as it comes in. Gas and tires are part of owning a car like this.
