Most all my previous jobs always required me to work every other Sunday. I hated it but if I was unable to make it to church with my family for our usual service, I either went earlier or caught it online so at least I'm being fed. For all it matters like he said, just take a day that you can be free to worship, rest and feed your spirit. That's what matters ultimately though it is also important to physically go to church whenever you can. I'd just be wary of being legalistic about it and it really grieves you (like it did me for the longest) pray God will give you favor that your schedule will allow you to go to church every Sunday. Otherwise just do what you can, at least your heart is in the right place and God sees that and will still meet you where you are

We use Sunday as a family day. We don't usually hang out with friends and such on Sunday. We rest. Deep family time. Movie and popcorn, shopping, cooking...and especially worship. Sunday is our recharge day.

What if the Sabbath is Saturday? when the Israelites were in the desert, one of them picked up just a few sticks on the Sabbath for his fire that was considered work they asked GOD what they should do? GOD said, stone him to death and they did. Keep the Sabbath holy is a commandment. I’ve often wondered if the reason the path to God is so narrow (Like threading a Camel through the eye of a needle) has something to do with keeping the sabbath holy. I don’t think Sunday is the Sabbath because we do more than pick up a couple of sticks to gather with the Saints and fellowship at church as also commanded.

Goodmorning brothers and sisters in christ, SHALOM! .Let me say its so refreshing to see so many of you who are definately walking on the narrow path that leads to life. Sometime we as true believers/walkers/deciples of christ , sometimes we think why cant people see the truth but just as on this forum it proves that many of us can and do see the Proof. I have listened to John piper and many other Christian ICONS if i may refer to them as such . and i refer to them as such because the world holds them to a high standard which is a dangerous game that they are playing.No disrespect to John Piper or again any other religious Leader/Speaker, but we as True believers are called to Spread the word of God Correctly keeping in mind not to add or take away from what is written. We are also called to judge Rightously not hippocritically when it come to defending the true gospel. Let me say that John Piper is just a man and made from dirt just like the rest of humanity. The scripture tells us that there is one mediator between God and man and that is the Lord Jesus Christ, not John Piper ,not your pastor and i can go on and on. We are to go to Jesus. Now that doesn't mean that you cant take Godly advice , however scripture clearly tells us to individually study to show ourselves approved and to examine ourselves . It goes on to say that the Holy Spirit will guide us and we need not be taught by men, we are to put trust in no man. Moving Fwd as most of my brothers and sister have said, The true Sabbath is 'SATURDAY" this was made clear in the book of Genesis. The day was sanctified /made holy and stands as a part of Gods commands to us which he has carved in stone written by his finger. Those commands do not go away and it clearly says remember the sabbath day and keep it holy. REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY AND KEEP IT HOLY ! this command was the only one that he starts off remember because he knew we would forget it or be let astray when it comes to this.Sunday is not the sabbath day, The Catholics have admitted to changing it to Sunday which amazes me that even non Catholics have adapted to this day as the sabbath. Do not let man lead you to the pit. We have to let the holy spirit guide us and when it does the spirit will allow us to see what is truth and what isn't when it comes from mans mouth. Its like John Piper is trying to justify at the fact that because this individual works in a hospital it relates to saying lives so its ok to break the sabbath. hmmm. Interesting , but wait suppose the called directing this question wasn't in nursing or healthcare ? It doesn't matter what line of work you are in the sabbath law stands for everyone .Lastly he goes into the resurection and how Jesus rose on the 1st day of the week. It never said he rose on the first day of the week, it said on the 3rd he rose again according to the scriptures. He rose 3 days after his death . Mary Magdeline and the Deciples discovered the empty tomb on the 1st day of the week Sunday however that doesn't mean he rose on Sunday. If we can all count if you place his death on Friday afternoon and you claim he rose on Sunday morning, then we are calling Jesus a liar because from Friday evening to Sunday doesn't equal 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth as he said he would be.We have to stay vigilent brothers and sister, read and continue to study to show yourself approved. Do not take everything these earthly leaders say as Gospel. They are all pieces of dirt so to speak just as we all are, Just how they study the scriptures so can you and you should be. Besides most of us probably know scripture better than they do. They mostly make up their own scripture and produce it. Please Pray or John Piper and all of those who try to take the place of God with their own beliefs and justifications. Stay Blessed brothers and sisters and lets continue the race to eternity. ​@@jcjamlig From my current revelation from the Spirit, I try to keep the Sabbath Holy from Friday night to Saturday night, AND, attend church on Sunday. My motivation is mainly to honor God through my actions in faith, and to not miss out on any blessings from observing those times (I've already found that I feel more rested and connected with people, as most of my friends play and have fun on Friday nights and Saturday's anyway). For my friends that take Sunday off for rest, I don't argue with them, as it is deemed good to them through their faith that it is Holy. Colossians 2:16-17 (ESV): Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

@@Mommy887 no it is not--look on any calendar--Saturday is the 7th day--the same day Jesus created and kept. Did Jesus rise on the first day, Sunday? Yes. Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. Mat 28:5 And the angel answered and said to the women, Fear not you: for I know that you seek Jesus, which was crucified . Mat 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. This is so clear--the end of the Sabbath here is obviously the 7th day and the coming dawn was the first day which was Sunday. It also says that Jesus was hung on the cross on the preparation day--Friday, He died Friday afternoon at 3PM and was put into His tomb before the Sabbath started which was at sundown--He slept (dead) in the grave all day on the 7th Day Sabbath--which means He also rested in death on the Sabbath and arise early Sunday morning. Mar_16:9 when Jesus risen early the first day the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. He arose on the fist day--that means the day before was the 7th Day Sabbath. Ask any Jew when the7th Day sabbath is--they still keep Saturday. Go to any Jewish synagogue on Saturday--they are there worshiping on the 7th Day like the 4th Commandment says to do.

All good advice from Pastor John about how to worship on the Lord’s Day. Here’s the one thing this message lacked and it’s an important one... He never said explicitly (so there can be no more confusion) that Sunday did NOT replace the sundown Friday to sundown Saturday (Sabbath day). He never said that Jesus, Himself IS our Sabbath. That the Sabbath was pointing to Him, as our rest. Too many Christians think that! John sort of implies that it’s known but it’s really not. The question even implied that she thought Sunday was the new Sabbath day for Christians. Not the same thing.

This topic I have had alot of blacklash on. The 7th Day Adventist have always called me a sinner you're not worshipping on a Saturday but this is what the Lord says about the Sabbath and which we can find throughout scripture, it does not matter what day you worship God on for every day is the Lord's Day and we are called as his followers to have a joy and rejoice every single day for what he has done for us for it is not what you do on the outside or what you eat that makes you sinful but what Christ was saying about all this is how your mindset is or even David had to work on Sabbath to get food and Jesus acknowledges that so if you have to work to do good which God commands you to do should not be held accountable to you for the ones who saywho say if you do work on the Sabbath they are casting judgment upon your which is wrong that's Romans 14 says do everything basically for the glory of God and forgive those who go against you. "And if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." Matthew 12:7‭-‬8 One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. Jesus kept the Sabbath even in death, as well as after Resurrection. As much as possible, as Jesus never changed the day of Sabbath, I honor the Sabbath, as well as devote time to The LORD on Sunday. As a Christ Follower, I find it more important to do as Christ did, and commanded, than what man-made traditions sprung up after HIS ascension.

Jen--what day do you go to church on? SUNday is a common working day--the LORD says to work 6 days and rest one day--the 7th Day. I may do any kind of work on SUNday and maybe go hand out literature but I worship on God's Holy Sabbath--the 7th Day! THE 4TH COMMANDMENT Exo 20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Sunday isn't a problem because it's not the Sabbath, Friday sunset to Saturday sunset is the real Sabbath. Start your day in darkness and end it in light. Catholic Sabbath is nit the lords Sabbath.

The seventh day of the week, was sanctified by God and chosen as a day for a man to spend in wholesome communion with their creator and reminds us that it is God who sanctifies us. First of all, I feel the need to address this verse: “Therefore, don't let anyone judge you in regard to food and drink or in the matter of a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.” Colossians @-17 Note that it’s “a sabbath day”, not “the Sabbath Day”. Whenever the Bible speaks of the Sabbath found in the 10 commandments in Exodus 20:8 it uses the article “The” meaning it’s specific. When Paul said a sabbath he was speaking of the Jewish ordinances and festivals that were given by Moses under the guidance of the holy spirit. Those ordinances and statues are done away with , God’s 10 commandments are not done away, in the new covenant, In Fact, the new covenant is about the law. “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:” Hebrews @ They are two types of laws in the old testament, there are the statutes|judgments and the commandments. These were all given by God through moses but there is a difference between these two. The bible clearly sets a distinction between the law(the 10 commandments ), and the statutes|ordinances or judgments. This distinction is seen well in the book of nehemiah when the children of Israel (after captivity in Babylon) were renewing their covenant with God. “They clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;” Nehemiah @. The statutes and judgments where they're to : 1. Help the children of Israel keep the main commandments( e.g the law that forbade people to go in their fields of the sabbath). 2. Help them understand the plan of salvation, pointing to Christ (e.g the animal sacrificing, the sanctuary pointing to Christ). These things were no longer needed after Christ's sacrifice, his holy spirit empowers us to keep his commandments and there is no need for animal sacrifice because Christ died on the cross and fulfilled those laws. The sabbath is a sign between us and God, it is a day not just for worship (we are supposed to worship him every day ) , but it’s an important time to pause and give all the time of the day to God, a day of self-examination to see if we have reached the standard Christ has for us. There is no Government without law, God is a God of order! His law reveals his character that he is a jealous God, a God of Love, mercy, justice, and a God who wants to dwell with his creation. “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.” Matthew @ “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” Psalms 19:7 “Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.” Romans @ The bible and the bible alone are our foundations as Christians and once you hold on to that bible and read it you will see that if there is something that Satan has accomplished today in destroying true Christianity is the open denial of God's ten commandments. So come on, dare to be a true Christian and read what God’s Word says on this subject: -> Gen. 2:1-3; Exod. 20:8-11; @-17; Lev. @; Deut. @-15; Isa. 56:5, 6; @, 14; Ezek. @, 20; Matt. 12:1-12; Mark @; Luke @; Heb. 4:1-11.

The real biblical Sabbath is the 7th day of the week which according to our calendar would be Saturday...Sunday is a traditional "Sabbath" that most churches acknowledge as the day of rest but The true day of rest that The Godhead instituted is the 7th day Sabbath (Saturday)

Sunday, the first day of the week means the day of the Lord’s victorious resurrection, it doesn't mean anything related to a day we should be going to church specifically. That's just dogma. It's not that it is a wrong thing going to church on Sundays either. Because our world nowadays is setup like that (workdays, calendar, etc) it is just better and convenient for us to go to church on that day, that's all about it!

Do good on the sabbath, to me that means if you have to work in order to take care of yourself and your family that's doing good. True story a former PASTOR went out to eat on a Sunday and made the comment, those poor people don't realize it's a sin to work on sundays. @@silversurfer2703 I know that this comment is old, however, I wanted to point out that according to scripture the Sabbath is from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. Based on Exodus 20:8-11 the Sabbath is on the seventh-day. Leviticus 23:32 states that the Sabbath should be celebrated from even to even which is why Friday sunset to Saturday sunset is considered the Sabbath. I'll use New Testament verses to show you how the Sabbath is still the seventh-day rather than the first. As we all know Christ resurrected on a Sunday which is called the first day of the week, Mark 16:9. He died on a Friday which is called the day of preparation and the day BEFORE the Sabbath, Mark 15:42 & Luke 23:54. It is clear from scripture which day the Sabbath is for there's only one day between the first day of the week and the day before the Sabbath--that is Saturday which is the seventh-day of the week. Christ died on a Friday but as Friday evening approached, the Sabbath started. There were women who wanted to anoint His body but instead rested according to the Sabbath commandment, Luke 23:56. Remember, Christ never came to destroy the law but to fulfill it and nothing from it will be changed, Matthew 5:17-18.

For those saying Saturday is the last day of the week, no it’s not, it is Sunday. Monday is the first day of the week according to the international standard ISO 8601. Only in the US and surrounding countries does the week start on Sunday.

For those Seventh Day Adventists who say Constantine changed it to Sunday, here is evidence that information is WRONG. The early church worshiped on Sunday during while the Apostles were still alive as seen in Scripture (Acts 20:7. Col 2:161-17 , Rev 1:10). The earliest quote is from 70 A.D. which predates Constantine hundreds of years, this refutes SDA's Sabbath keeping. The Didache "But every Lord’s day . . . gather yourselves together and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. But let no one that is at variance with his fellow come together with you, until they be reconciled, that your sacrifice may not be profaned" (Didache 14 [A.D. 70]). The Letter of Barnabas "We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (Letter of Barnabas 15:6-8 [A.D. 74]). Ignatius of Antioch "[T]hose who were brought up in the ancient order of things [i.e. Jews] have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s day, on which also our life has sprung up again by him and by his death" (Letter to the Magnesians 8 [A.D. 110]). Justin Martyr "But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead" (First Apology 67 [A.D. 155]). And many more early church quotes that say they worshiped on Sunday, which means the Apostles worshiped on Sunday.

Saturday is the last day of the week. Saturday is the Jewish sabbath. The Bible says that God rested on the seventh day... we assume it was on the sabbath to stay true to the old law. So when and more importantly why was it switched to Sunday? Edit- The first century Church had a hard time adopting the new covenant law and new converts were Jews... Why change the sabbath to the first day of the week? Why go against the grain of social, religious and cultural norms? In layman terms... it makes more sense to work the first six days of the week and to rest on the seventh.... it makes no sense to rest before you work. The big question for me is why. I understand how it could happen under a pagan authority like Constantine. Maybe you help me with the 'why'... Thanks.

Gods Day of rest from the beginning was Saturday, He even wrote it in stone and told you He knows the beginning from the END...So you think God got the day WRONG ? He wanted you to wake up and NOT take the wide path... But some pope who worships idols changed it to SUNDAY. I'll go on a limb to say that it would be good for all Believers to hold the sabbath on Saturday to be in the framework of the Old Testament. But we are not under the 613 Mosaic Laws. If we have the sabbath on Sunday instead of Saturday is God going to strike us down? If we have to work on the weekend is God going to strike us down? One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The funny thing is I work every other Sunday. Piper talks about being refreshed, encouraged and renewed gathering with the saints. I don’t - the Sunday gathering does the opposite for me. Rest on whatever day you can - gather when you can. Piper comes from a reformed traditional model and expression of doing and being church. I don’t like the event driven Christianity. For me it’s life on life community driven living. We are the church - in the community. Another thing - leaders in the church say your family is your first ministry. Providing for my family comes first. I need to work random hours to pay the bills. Not all of us are middle class well payed professional people. I must work these random long hours to pay my bills. It comes down to your own convictions - you can get all the advice from church leaders but it comes down to you and your priorities.

According to scripture the Sabbath is from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. Based on Exodus 20:8-11 the Sabbath is on the seventh-day. Leviticus 23:32 states that the Sabbath should be celebrated from even to even which is why Friday sunset to Saturday sunset is considered the Sabbath. In the New Testament, the Sabbath was still considered the seventh-day rather than the first day of the week. As we all know Christ resurrected on a Sunday which is called the first day of the week, Mark 16:9. He died on a Friday which is called the day of preparation and the day BEFORE the Sabbath, Mark 15:42 & Luke 23:54. There's only one day between the first day of the week and the day before the Sabbath and that is Saturday which is the seventh-day of the week. Christ died on a Friday but as Friday evening approached, the Sabbath started. There were women who wanted to anoint His body after Jesus died but didn't and instead rested according to the Sabbath commandment, Luke 23:56. Even though some claim Christ's death abolished the Sabbath, from those previous verses concerning His death we see the Sabbath still being the seventh-day. This is why Christ said He never came to destroy the law but to fulfill it and nothing from it will be changed, Matthew 5:17-18.

Honestly, I have a hard time taking all this Sunday business seriously. Who is gonna make your burgers Christians? Who is going to ring you up? Who is going to find that hammer with the weird attachments? The thing is, from what I see, it tends to be CHRISTIANS who absolutely flood local establishments with business on Sunday and then expect everyone to think it's a sabbath. You're kidding right? Sunday is the busiest day of the week for customer service, not Saturday, and take a wild guess whose fault that is. Saturday was named after the roman god Saturn. It is doubtful that saturday lines up exactly with the jewish calendar of old, especially since a few times in history the day of the week was changed, even after the bible was compiled. One can make the argument that a sabbath must be observed, which I believe.
