Not always. Make sure it's a company the recipient likes and will use. I've gotten several cards from businesses they like that I do not patronize.

We had such a problem in the family! One birthday, someone gave a man a "generic" aftershave. And it turned out that there was no one who liked it. So at the next birthday, the same unopened box turned up again, and it went on until you thought when am I going to get that bottle? 😂😂👍🏻

There is one magnificent gift now in the world, specifically for those who are searching for true meaning and purpose in life. This gift is a book of spiritual practice called - _Steps to Knowledge, The Book of Inner Knowing_ It's a self-study book that will lead you to your true life if you follow its lead. And it's of course free, check it out!

What about people who will tell you, in complete sincerity & point-blank honesty, that they really do prefer to not be given a gift. For reasons ranging from, "there just isn't anything I need or want right now, so don't waste your money on a gift for me just for its own sake" to "I don't believe in celebrating holidays with an exchange of consumer goods" to "I really think of days like birthdays & Christmas as a bigger deal for children, so let's do for the kids but, as adults, we might've outgrown the need for a present on those days" to any other reason that could apply to any given individual, some people simply don't wish to be given gifts. But rarely does anyone ever listen to & allow for that personal choice. I'm not talking here about someone who disingenuously says, "Oh, that's ok, don't bother about me", but then will passive-aggressively hold a person having taken that line seriously & gone through with it like it's a cat on their lap, stroking & petting the insult for years to come. I mean someone who genuinely wishes to be skipped over on the buying list altogether. I've been in that position for 40 years, with any number but mainly my own former mother-in-law, who filled drawers & closets with clothes to be never worn & cluttered every wall & corner in our house with items of decor she was just sure would look great at our place. Her standard answer to being politely (most of the time) asked to stop was, "Oh, well, I had to get you something." Could the good Dr. please tell these people how to go about that?
@TheCommunicationCoach

I can. After 40 years, she's obviously not going to be dissuaded or stop, so simply take it and donate it to a charity. Merry Christmas.

This is sad she doesn't know consumption is societal collapse, though shall not want just need. That aside the perfect gift is a gift card but they have already figured that out because they want optimal consumption to further the destruction of planet and society.
