Hey! I'm just at the part where you explain the fact that the colours seem a washed out blue instead of the grey when you print. Just as a potential fix for you... when you go to print, where it says "Printer Manages Colours" Switch that to "Photoshop manages colours" - I found that the colours come out more accurate to what you see on the screen when you use the print preview on PS. I hope that helps!

Thanks for this video about the Artisan 1430. Here is a paper for your trials that I have had great success with for illustrations. It is called MOAB by Legion Paper. I was buying it locally in Texas at an art supply store - but you can get it on Amazon. It is a premium archival fine art and photographic digital paper. Great feel great texture and really nice prints. Thanks again for the help with the video. Cheers!

HI! hope you have had luck figuring out the color issue since you made this! i had a question myself that maybe you could help with? i havea canon ix2860 and cant seem to get my watercolor prints to print clear. there a bit blurry not very sharp. i used matt paper to print it. would that affect it? i tried to use the sharpen tool in photoshop but then it turns out really "8-bit" like. should i set the size of the paper to match the size of the actual artwork? any thoughts i will take any advice
@creative.and.caffeinated

Hi! Yes, it took me about a year to figure out all the settings on this printer and now I feel like I get very consistent prints. I’ve had this printer for about 4 years now and it still runs like a champ! 👍 As far as why you might be getting blurry results with watercolor paper, it could be the texture of the paper more than your print settings. I’m not sure if your original image was done on watercolor paper or if you are printing on watercolor paper. Either way, Watercolor paper has a bunch of tiny little fibers that will make it difficult to get a crisp print. If your painting is on watercolor paper, you may want to try photographing the image in natural light and then printing it, as opposed to scanning it into your computer and the printing it. This may minimize some of the texture you’re seeing. I would also try a smoother paper, or maybe a watercolor paper with less texture. As far as print size, I like for my image to fill the whole page, but depending on the image, it can be nice to have a border all the way around. It’s really up to your personal preference. Having a white border will save you a little bit of ink. Just be sure the quality of your image (the dpi- dots per inch) is higher, like 300-600dpi and you should be able to print at pretty much any standard size with good quality results. Hope this helps! 👍
@joey666sic
@joey666sic 3 жыл бұрын
@@creative.and.caffeinated yes this was very helpful indeed! thank you for responding! the print size had me concerned since i thought it was affecting the quality but i always do my prints at 300 or more so now i know thats not the issue. i thought if i made the print bigger than the actual original it would make it blurry but thank god that isnt the case. I will try to photograph it from now on since i do use cold pressed paper which has texture for sure. i guess outdoor lighting is my best bet though since i have very yellow dim lighting in my home. Once again, thank you for your feedback! and glad your printing is going well!

what's your opinion on "stars" that are on epson premium presentation matte? some are 3 star and some are 5 star etc.. printing some photos of mom's paintings. she sells her art. tried photo paper with dye, blacks came out purplish... and it scratches easily during preparation (putting them in frames, very delicate process... not my cup of tea). tried pigment on matte, omg so much better... so... soo... much.... better........ beautiful results, if not better for a little more money. I ran out of 5 star papers (demo pack). i see 3 stars for $30 and 100 sheets. think that's ok? or is 5 star a real must?

This was an awesome video. I've just purchased this printer and am about to install this same CIS system. I've purchased a color managing device called ColorMunki Photo that is supposed to help with making sure what you see on the monitor matches with what you see when you print. The topic of color management with printing is very very extensive and can feel overwhelming at times but hopefully I will get the hang of it.

Thank you Mark! Glad you found the video helpful. If I had to do the video over again, I would have probably used a different image to sample the prints. I would have liked to try a few different paper types and spend more time talking about the printer settings. I've learned a little bit about print settings since filming this, and wish I could have included some examples of that. If I learned anything from this process it's this... You can buy a $300 printer, but it doesn't guarantee you're prints are going to look great. 😂 In my opinion, it's more about the paper and the print settings than the printer itself. Who knows, maybe I'll film an updated version in the future!

I've used various epson printers for my home business for years and the only issue I have is with the control panel. The canon printer I use at work has a control panel that lets me control dpi, indicate the composition and weight of the paper but my epson ET-3600 has almost no controls. It's great for printing drafts of artwork, and perfect for our homeschool needs (it's a super tank so I don't need the CISS system, it's built in). Currently I'm attempting to control output for art prints from my adobe products but it's hit and miss depending on which product I am creating in. My question is, what controls do you have on your epson to make sure you are getting a high quality high resolution image?

Hi this is bout mostly Epson Stylus Photo 1400 question, but I'll try asking anyways. I always get prints including test prints to print only in pink or magenta. I am very new to this. What may be the problem? Can anyone help with this question? I aquired from a relative who got it from a friend. Didn't try using it until now which is 2 or three years later. I've nozzle cleaned it, and flushed it with water and alcohol technique. Tomorrow I will test again. Can anyone guess why it only prints magenta? I've just popped in brand new cartridges o by the way to so they are full on ink? Could be settings somewhere? If so what are those settings to change and what to change them too?
@creative.and.caffeinated
@creative.and.caffeinated 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, even as an owner of this Epson for 3+ years, I’m not aware of any settings that control for that. Printing is such a finicky art... so it could be anything from your print heads, to your print settings (RGB vs CMYK). I’d try adjusting the colors to account for the high amounts of pink/magenta. For example, try printing a solid green or blue image and see what happens. If it’s able to do that, then it’s probably the color profile of your image and not something to do with the printer itself. Best of luck to you though! As someone who often curses at my printer because I can never understand it, I feel your frustration!

Hi! Thank you for this helpful video. I prefer matte photo paper as well for the cards that I print and hand cut. I was wondering if you have since figured out the best way to correct the blue cast? I have a Canon Pixma MG6822 and get a blue cast on some prints as well. It's very noticeable when I print my watercolor pieces. I haven't been able to find the answer and everything I've tried ends up making prints too yellow/orange!

Hi Lory! Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm still working out the kinks for my printer in regards to color correction. I'd recommend playing around with your printer program's settings. - Make sure your printer program knows what paper you're using - Try changing your printer's preferences to "relative colorimetric", this seemed to help correct the blueness on *some* of my prints, but not all of them. - Try changing your preferences from "printer manages colors" to "photoshop/program manages colors" That's about all I've investigated since making this video, but I'm still very much learning the ins and outs of at home printing. I will likely make an update video when I learn more! Hope this helps! :)

Hi Sara, I've had a few encounters with banding. Being a printer novice myself, I can't say for sure what the problem is, but it's good practice to run a nozzle check and clean your printer head (a quick google search for "Epson Artisan 1430 Nozzle check") should help you out! :) That and tweaking your printer settings to match the paper quality and image quality should help!

@creative.and.caffeinated
@creative.and.caffeinated 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure which software you're referring to, so here's a breakdown: To scan my images, I use EPSON Scan because it's compatible with my scanner To edit, I use Adobe Photoshop CS5 (it's an outdated version, but it gets the job done). To print, I export my images out of Photoshop and save the files as either a .jpg or a .pdf, once they are saved to my desktop I simply open the file (my default viewing app is "Preview" on Mac) and I print straight from there. Because my printer is an Epson, I have the EPSON Printer software installed. So you can tweak with the settings a bit until you figure out the best custom settings. Hope this helps! :)

@creative.and.caffeinated
@creative.and.caffeinated 6 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to say. The Continuous Ink system does have "UV Resistant" ink, which can be assumed to be "archival", since sun exposure is the number one biggest factor in preserving quality-- but it doesn't actually say "archival" so I can't be sure whether or not there is some chemical difference between the ink you get in a CISS or the name brand stuff. It's definitely something to look into. Do lots of research and maybe even reach out to the company for further clarification? I can say that quality and longevity have not been a problem for me thus far, but I have to acknowledge that I've only had this printer for a little less than a year.

@creative.and.caffeinated
@creative.and.caffeinated 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrEntrepreneur77 The retail value of the printer I mentioned in this video is no longer accurate. Since making this video, Epson has come out with a "newer" version of this printer that is essentially the exact same printer with a different name. It retails for approximately $250-$300. Unfortunately this means if you search for the Epson Artisan 1430, it's gone drastically up in price due to the fact that it's no longer being sold from Epson. A bit silly. So I would not recommend buying the 1430, I would recommend being the newer version, because it's a more reasonable price. You can read more about the new printer here: www.amazon.com/dp/B076PLTQQT/?ref=idea_lv_dp_ov_d&tag=aiponsite-20&linkCode=ic6&ascsubtag=amzn1.ideas.34F85IKS4FTIE If you're able to find it cheaper on Craigslist, then that's awesome! Epson likes to do this incredibly frustrating thing where they discontinue products (like this printer) and replace it with a near-identical product under a different name. Now that the printer is discontinued, it's gone up to a very unreasonable price. I would absolutely NOT recommend purchasing this printer for more than $300. Perhaps local stores will still have it available at a reasonable price? It's worth looking into. But if not, the replacement model is called the Expression Photo HD XP-15000. Hope that helps!

Very sorry! 😅 This apartment proved to be very difficult to film in. The combination of it being a small space with poor lighting meant that my camera angles were very limited. However, I am moving soon and I am hopeful that I will have a better filming space very soon! 🙏🏻 If I have any additional helpful information about printing I may also film an updated version of this video!
