@@Adz Get a detector, they don't cost much compared to how much you invested into other things in the van and it makes checking a matter of moments so you are less likely to avoid doing it.

If you have apple device it will show where that there are air tags following you and then you can activate the sound to locate exactly.

Hi Ad I have the same camera system on my van as you do ,but I think you need an emergency button in the rear of your van ,I have a full array of Lazer lights and RVL SCENE LIGHTS on my van plus I have 2 sets of RVL Orange recovery lights on my van . But the best thing I have on My van is America train horns ,these are 180 db's from 4 15in separate horns with a 100 litre are compressor. I think I'm going to try and do some that allows me to have one switch that when pressed not only illuminates every single lamp I have on the outside of the van but also deploys the train horns to get as much attention to my van possible but to also scare the crap out of any would be criminal. Im in a FB group for fridge box campers as have one (ex sainsburys van). Some woman wrote on there that someone stole her van while her and her dog were in the back of it asleep with NO pass through to the cab. She woke up on a wild ride with the thief driving like an idiot. She called the cops and and talked them into her location while being thrown about in the back. Crazy! Always worries me not having a pass through.

Always have a way to the can always It’s the only way I will have my van once it’s done But also the entrance should have a door to stop them entering the back if they get in the front I had an idea of a metal bar or strong rope holding the front doors together so they cannot open

Glad you survived mate. When I worked in security we had CCTV camera's that had speakers attached! from the control room we could use a microphone to [ politely ] ask! intruders to vacate the area. Surely a van could be set up with a similar system where the sound of your voice through the speakers would also alert the surrounding area of a problem. Also a pre recorded warning could be set up should you not awaken. Just a thought mate.

Surprised it didn`t happen sooner. In france en route to Spain in October every car Park i parked next to other campervans and mobile homes , then waking about midnight they had all gone. Then on 3 occasions a car pulls up waiting for the moment, so i`d plip the fob and they`d drive off. The giveaway is the UK sticker and numberplate. At Lake Annecy also after midnight the kids are banging on the roof, waiting to see if there`s any movement. A little tip from my car dealer mate, who has a VW Cali Ocean, park in a filling station, not too close to the cashier so not a problem, but close enough they can see the vehicle. Used to be the Eastern Europeans that were at it, now especially in France all the local eff rogs are at it.

Also got to Strasbourg about 11pm, found a quiet square with a couple of druggies on a bench about 40 metres away. Thought safe enough, big mistake. All their fellow pill poppers turned up for a game of footy next to my van, while trying my door handles. Decided to move on, when all Street lights turned off. Found it safer in coastal town's in the Spanish town's across the border.

Welcome to the world of lorry driving. Many parking areas, especially in UK charge up to £40 per night to park with no security and yet this happens every night in every country, especially at this time of year. They will cut the tarpaulin curtains, some even carry battery powered tools to cut locks and make holes in refrigerated/hard sided trailers, to see what’s in the trailers. They then steal anything they can. If there’s nothing interesting to steal they will turn to the fuel tanks. Locks and anti-syphon devices are useless as all they then do is drill a hole in the tank! I’ve even seen where they have gently slightly jacked a lorry up then let it down onto a spike which is inside a pipe and drained the tank, any they didn’t take just ran down the road. Bear in mind that we are working. We have driven for up to 10 hours and could be doing the same the next day so we need to rest to be safe on the road. Because of road transport law, rules and regulations we are not allowed to move, if we do and get caught the fines are massive. More security is needed in parking areas and more secure parking is needed throughout UK and Europe.

Glad you're OK mate,but the golden rule of van travel is to avoid sleeping on motorway service areas anywhere. There's so much there for the low lifes to potentially nick.It's like a magnet for them. You're much safer off the road in some quiet village or woodland. An alarm is also a must if you don't have one.

If you haven’t already, it is a good idea to install extra door locks (eg Heosafe) to the front doors and a Prickstop plate to the driver’s side door lock to prevent lock picking.

Seems logical in a way but it’s actually really dangerous not being able to step through to the cab. If you need to leave suddenly you can’t. But also, there’s been a couple of stories on other comments of people who have been driven off when they’re stuck in the back. I think most of the time a thief would leave if they know you’re there

1, print off a pic of a large agressive looking dog print a name on it to to give the imppresion its more legit and a pet . Stick it visible on rear and front . 2, have a phone recording of a large agressive dog barking ready to play via loudspeaker if you suspect anyone approaching . 3, put a local contabulary sticker on vehicle front and rear . 4, keep a large dog bowl outside on entry step . 5 one touch illumination and siren alarm system with highest decible . (I think halfords do them) 🙏

I thought when I was building it that I’d done beyond the point of it being stealthy. But since using it I’ve found that 100% of non van life people are surprised when I tell them it’s a camper. No one has ever realised I’m inside. I’ve had all sorts going on right outside the door because people don’t know I’m in it. It’s obvious to most van lifers. (Although even other campervans owners have told me they thought they were parked next to a work van) but to non van lifers they haven’t got a clue. Every border control, and MOT garages etc were surprised. And even the people on the gate at the van life festival thought I was there to deliver stuff. So yeah it may seem obvious to those who know. But it’s not in general. And I purposefully keep it that way as it means I can park anywhere in the UK

If it looks nothing like a camper it can still attract potential vandals/theives . You proved it via your camera footage . I learned a valuable lesson . Nearly pissed myself with your reenactment of what went down and you shouting pigeon 🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though I’d recon because you’re camper has no glass windows in the rear it looks like a commercial van that to a thief’s small brain they would think it’s full of expensive tools and just sitting inside there waiting to be robbed.It happens here in Ireland too often unfortunately🙄
