I have the velvitiser and I use it just for milk if I’m using powder chocolate and if I want it warmer I microwave the milk before it goes in the machine. I love mine but find the hotel chocolate expensive but I’m paying less than £2 per drink so way better than any cafe!!!!

That aeroccino hot chocolate looks so sad! I promise it can be so much better (I don’t know what model I have, had it for years, but it looks just like yours!) - here are some tips from many experiments! 1) throw away the lid, you need air! I’ve decided the lid is only there for people who overfill their aeroccinos not for people who want nice silky frothed milk - and definitely use the spring! 2) you have to let the milk start to warm up before you add the chocolate (I also use flakes/small pieces) and add a teaspoon at a time so it can start to melt in (now you’ll be glad you threw that lid away!) - not sure how much I add ‘cause I judge it on colour! 3) when it’s done, lift the aeroccino off its base and tap it on the counter to knock out any big bubbles on the surface and give it a quick swirl before pouring it into a (pre-warmed!) cup. Would love to know what you think if you give it a try :D

I was wondering if Hotel Chocolat adds some special emulsifier or stabiliser to their sachets to improve their own drinks' texture - but at least their 70% classic sachets only contain soy lecithin as an additive (which is common in chocolate). Additives aside, these frothers aim to whip up the milk proteins such that they can stabilise very tiny air bubbles inside the drink. Agitation and temperature should both help with that, but I'm curious to know what else the pricey Velvetiser is doing to get a leg up over the competition. Thanks for this comparison video. There's too little impartial information on hot chocolate frothing on the internet.

@@A2BProductions I'd be interested to see a comparison between these and just regular whisked stove-top hot chocolate. The point being to find if the Velvetiser or a milk frother does something magical that you couldn't achieve easily with conventional equipment.
@timothyrayner36262 жыл бұрын
The review mentioned that the temperature was higher on the Barista machine which was seen as a plus but in the blurb for the Velvetiser they say a common error in making hot chocolate is makimg the milk too warm so I think having a slightly lower temperature actually helps the velvetising and prevents from 'scalding' the chocolate. They do recommend preheating the mug(s) which can easily be done by carefully swilling some boiled water round the mug and chucking it out just prior to pouring the chocolate in. This means it doesn't cool down as quickly as it would when poured in a cold mug.

Soy is bad for you..especially men. I buy the HC 85% chocolate shavings which has nothing else added. I then just add a couple of stevie drops. Nut milk seems to froth more I noticed too. The Jord oat&hemp is nice and adds a little sweetness.

A good tip with the velvetiser (might help with the other two) is that the lower the amount of milk used the more frothy the drink. I like to pour most of it out and leaving just enough to cover the whisk (or whatever you want to call the rotatey thing) and then switch it on for a few more seconds to make a nice 'head' to put on top. Surprised tha t the Barista has a lower capcity considering how much bigger it is than the velvetiser.

Yeah none of the hot chocolates lasted long 😅 but yeah I have to say the Velvetiser added a little something extra to the texture of the milk and think that's the machine I'd go for if I was just looking for a hot chocolate maker.

Makes 2 to 3 pints - I make in bulk in a jar Best in a pan, but works well in a milk frother - I have a Nespresso aerochino 4. I use 1tbs per max line of milk. Can be edited if like less sweet, use less sugar and so on. 2 tablespoons malted milk powder/Horlicks 2 tablespoons cornflour 3 tablespoons icing sugar 4 tablespoons quality cocoa powder 1 pinch ground cinnamon 100g dark chocolate grated

How is the temperature comparrison? I have a Nespresso coffee maker and I have to heat the milk up in a pan because the frother gizmo heats it to luke warm at best so I need to drink it within 10 mins or it's really cold. Also have you tried plant milks? Also can you use high quality cacao powder or does it need to be solid choc chips? Thanks for any help. I'm thinking of getting this as an xmas pressie but I don't want to land them with something that's expensive to use or heats it to luke warm.
@A2BProductions3 жыл бұрын
Which one are you thinking of getting? As far as heat goes the barista recipe maker is the hottest hot chocolate I’ve had from a hot chocolate maker by far. No reason why you can’t use powder and we did a video using chocolate callets in the Aeroccino too, my wife also uses those in the velvetiser regularly and have proved good value. On the plant milks question we have a few videos on the channel testing plant milks in the Nespresso frothers but need to do one to test in the velvetizer really. Hope some of this helps you to decide.

@@A2BProductions It is helpful yes. Thanks. I'll admit this only came to my attention when I saw the Velvetizer and thought ooo pretty gadget AND it involved chocolate. I've shopped around for choc chips but they're quite expensive too & if you want organic...eek. Thanks again.

I can say that the velvetizer makes a hot drink not boiling hot but hot enough to warm u up if that makes sense. Best thing to do is pop into a hotel chocolat store if u have one in your area. They demonstrated the machine to me and let me taste the chocolate also they have got a special offer on at the moment
@timothyrayner36262 жыл бұрын
As I commented in an earlier post, if you preheat the mugs using boiling water (a little swilled around the mug will do) then the velvetiser chocolate is definitely warm enough. The lower temperature keeps the quality of the chocolate and helps the frothing of the milk but becuase it's lowert then pouring it into a cold mug will mean it will go from warm/hot enough to drink without nurning your tongue to a bit too cold too quickly.
@sydsnott50422 жыл бұрын
Very interesting video. So the Barista machine produced a hotter drink eh? I think you should update this comparative test and use a thermometer. Why? Because the Velvetiser reaches the optimum temperature to melt chocolate and not burn the chocolate. My concern is that the Barista machine may well go that bit beyond optimum. As for the Aerechino (sorry bad spell I know) if I recall correctly it doesn't get close to the optimum temperature to melt chocolate as can clearly be seen looking in the base of it. Funnily I have both the Velvetiser and the Aerochino as I have the Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine 👌
@221b-Maker-Street Жыл бұрын
Yes, came here to say this. If you're spending that much on lovely hot chocolate flakes, you don't want to be burning it! Around *68º* is what you're aiming for. Random fact - the reasons most people find *green tea* bitter is because they pour boiling water on it, when really it's meant to have *85º* water. It's the boiling water that releases the bitter compounds.

youre not supposed to add anything to the milk when using the nespresso aeroccino!!

Please be aware everyone the Aeroccino was never made for making hot chocolate. Therefore it will never make a hot chocolate as good as dedicated other machines or the old fashioned way in a pan. As well as not turning out as good, it is far harder to clean out as well.

like if you agree nespresso should make hot chocolate pods
@timothyrayner36262 жыл бұрын
Sorry. That would never work. for decent hot chocolate you need to melt actual chocolate or use very fine cocoa. Neither chocolate nor cocoa would work well with any pod based machine worth buying. Even if it did you'd want to add said drink to boiling milk in order to make it to the taste of the average cocoa enthusiast. At which point you'd have to ask yourself why you aren'tjust adding chocolate flakes to any of the 6+ devices already available for frothing milk (Aeroccino 1&2, the 3 reviewed here and Aeroccino 4 - plus multiple other company's milk frothers).
