We install Fortune Auto 500-series coilovers based on their AE86 kit using custom front camber plates, plus we install Whiteline adjustable rear lower links and Techno Toy Tuning front GTX2 control arms and billet hubs so that our RA24 Toyota Celica is now a rolling chassis.

I used to own a 1977 Celica GT Coupe (RA24) with an 18RG engine, emphasis was placed on making it handle as well as it could and lose weight - roadraced it, was a very fun car, owned it for 25 years and still miss it today.

Just went Fortune Auto on my Ae86 this past weekend. I opted to run the OE setup rear just for piece of mind and the fact that I don't have to worry about what moving the spring outward does to the spring rate. I also opted for a softer spring for better ride comfort for street use went over a few speed bumps and such and it rides better then my stock accord suspension. I am liking this build since its old school and actually close to my car in setup.

Will do, can't wait to see the rest of the build. Quick question is their a reason you didn't go spherical rod ends on the rear? I switched mine to them years ago and really didn't notice an increase road noise or harshness.

Add a lower chassis mount. The flatter the panhard bar is, the less arch you'll have through axle articulation. Also, if the panhard bar is parallel to the ground at ride height, the roll center is the center of the panhard.
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 7 жыл бұрын
Great point about roll center and getting the panhard as parallel to the ground as possible. We cover a lot of that in our Watts link conversion on our Mustang. Lowering the chassis mount on the Celica is a great idea, we'll look into that! Might even allow our AE Whiteline panhard bar to fit.

I have a 79 ra40 beams swap, I also did the gtx2 s13 lower control arm. Ceika made my coilovers for me. Ra40 top plates and s13 bottom mounts. On my car the 7k spring is a little too stiff. Right now I'm running a 300 lbs tender spring on top off the 7k main spring. Whats is your plan for the front swap bar?? On my, the motor is in way of sway bar. Great build

Hey guys why not just buy the t3 Celica panhard bar? Does the 86 rear end have a different mount than the stock Celica one? That's what I'm running it on my ra24 and it's great! That alone cleaned up so much slop in the rear.
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 7 жыл бұрын
I think the mount is the same on the Celica axle as it is on the AE axle. But what we didn't realize is the RA chassis needs a longer bar than the AE, so we'll have to sort that out. Great to hear the T3 bar worked well on your Celica.

Why not get T3 bushed links? I opted for all bushed everything so I ended up going with the cusco panhard as opposed to the whiteline due to on car adjustability.
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 7 жыл бұрын
With the panhard we're not too concerned with on car adjustability, since once we get the axle centered it's a set it and forget deal for us. We have Hardrace bushed upper links on order, so that'll complete our rear setup for now.

why on earth did you bother cutting Into the body just to temporarily fit a spring set up you had no intention of using long term? I'm baffled.
@speedacademy
@speedacademy 7 жыл бұрын
We are actually going to run these springs long-term. But when we shot this video we were thinking the coilover setup would be the hot ticket. Now I'm thinking we'll be fine with this setup, and in terms of why we cut into the car, well, that really came down to us being stubborn enough to want to find out what it would take to fit these parts to the chassis. We think of it as a public service to our 1st gen Celica brothers who may be considering using these parts on their car.
@The124cbr
@The124cbr 7 жыл бұрын
Stubbornness and impatience I can relate to. As someone that has recently bookmarked the RA23-Beams/3sgte as a project car in the next few years (hoping they remain relatively "unpopular" until then) this build has been great to see what works. So thanks for cutting up your car for us!
