Jeez, the full commitment from the outside from Tsuchiya on the last lap was freaking awesome! Also the way he holds a near perfect 0 degree steering angle through the last corner is insane. That’s some phenomenal throttle steering.
I love these guys. They all stuff themselves in that small 86 and have a blast driving it around. It's also so cool seeing them look over 86 that hasn't been touched, must have been nostalgic seeing all the OEM parts still there. Thanks for the subtitles guys!
I respect Morita's decision to keep the headlights up for that race lol

Best car show on the planet. That white 1.8 million yen 86 was my favorite. Its cool to see these guys still doing this, I've grown up watching BM since I was a kid, thank you for translating these segments into english.

one with 23,000 kms is 50k+ now (GTV 16v). Can't get any under $30k in a good condition. $16k would get you a rusted, gutted one with 300k kms on it now lol.
That defend from DK on the last turn was actually hair raising, esp the incar footage i would be dumbstruck if someone passed me like that, solid racing by everyone there too

@@RyuusanFT86 Yeah they're basically race cars with stripped interiors and if they lack power = Add boost with a switch, if they lack grip = adjust rear camber & toe. An N/A AE86 with live rear axle doesn't have that luxury. Even with 215ps, more rear toe and camber via modified rear axle (Where they made diagonal cuts on the axle housing, welded the cuts, and shock cooled the still hot welds to shrink the metal in those areas which made the axle give more camber and toe) he couldnt quite get there, and this year that axle broke because the halfshafts were too much at an angle into the center pumpkin which ground and stripped the splined ends of the halfshafts. Weir makes stronger halfshafts but even those will strip the splines, and Weir is notorious for A: Not doing their homework, they just make everything out of chromoly or "4340 cnc machined keep murican jobs boom", and calls it the best for that reason alone, and B: Their customer support sucks balls. I know about a NZ guy that fitted a S2k IRS to his 86 (some blog or another featured it) and uses it for time attack, and I know a guy that put Miata independent rear end on his Corolla KE70 drift car, he can hit the toughest curbs and you can see the rear wheels just bouncing all over like crazy on those bumpy curbs and it STILL allows him full control, granted a lot of it is skill because he's the best Western Corolla drifter barring none, but still he says it makes it tons better and I'm inclined to take his word for it. But DK is kind of on the fence about stuff like that, exhibit A) He wants his 86 handling like an s2k, exhibit B) He's all about keeping the 86's characteristics, that means keeping the live rear axle housing the AE86 came with from factory and C) He doesn't want equal length 4-link because it ditches the rear seats (all the while this cars rivals throw everything out for the sake of performance). There really isn't much to be done, making it lighter just means less stability at high speed and not being able to take advantage of todays tires made for heavier cars, and 215 ps is pretty much as far as you can go with an AE86, more power means diddly at gunsai without the grip to back it up. Modern cars get away with weight reduction because even with all that they still weigh enough to take advantage of modern tires. He would gain probably a full half to 3/4 of a second if he could at least add detachable equal length upper 4-link boxes to conquer Gunsai.

I never realized Tsuchiya’s 86 is as heavy as it is. (Well… “heavy”) It makes sense though, he’s always said that in his mind the truest spirit of a tuning car is retaining a full interior.
