As someone who lives across the pond (UK) can I just say that was just about the most impressive review I’ve seen in years. I had sort of suspected that there was a lot ill informed twaddle being talked about that gun and your video was the in depth review I’d been waiting for. Your observations on the Donny fl moderators was interesting too, I’ve got one on order. Thanks for all the time + effort you put in.

I bought my Diana Skyhawk in a 25 Cal from a AOA and it’s been a tact driver right out of the box no issues at all very impressive. For me it’s the perfect truck gun and for maneuvering in tight areas for petting. Thank you Steve for your review and looking forward to more information that you provide to help us all. ✊

Had my laminate Skyhawk in 25cal for 3 months and I love mine. The laminate stock is a true work of art especially since The P-15 is now $550 to the US and I got my Skyhawk for $629, that’s only $79 for the laminate stock and is a steal since just a bullpup stock for my Marauder is $500. My Skyhawk was shooting 1in groups at 30yds so I addressed the barrel first and mine had chatter marks on the leade-in as well as the crown from milling. I polished the leade-in and crown to a mirror finish by hand with 1500 & 2500 grit wet or dry on a bullet shaped felt dremel attachment and run my patch worm thru my 25cal barrel with the 177 patch worm bushing with 2 or 3 patches to fit tight and covered them with automotive polishing compound. Ran it thru opposite of direction of pellet travel a dozen times and then with new polishing compound patches every 6 passes pulled them thru 2 dozen times in the same direction as pellet travel and then used some denatured alcohol on clean patches to clean everything out of the barrel and it looked like a spiral mirror inside when I finished. I also had to put a single wrap of masking tape around the barrel where the threaded shroud bushing goes to correct the fit and keep my shroud in perfect alignment, also modified my shroud and threw away the cheap baffles and made my own to improve it’s sound suppression as well as a short 5in carbon fiber silencer to quiet the Skyhawk. After polishing my trigger parts and adjusting the trigger to only 1.3lbs with a clean crisp break, I’m happy to say my Skyhawk will now stack pellet on pellet at 30yds with 4 different kinds and weights of pellets. The 25gn JSB and 34gn JSB as well as polymags & field target trophy’s. The 34gr JSBs were doing 790fps, the 25g JSBs and 26gn polymags were doing around 830fps and the 19gn field target trophy’s are shooting just under 900fps. Before working on my barrel my gun would only shoot one pellet halfway decent out of 15 different pellets I tried but that changed after polishing the barrel leade-in, crown and the inside of my barrel. I had to raise my scope up 1in so I get the proper shouldering and cheek weld with the Skyhawk as the short gun is a bit hold sensitive but it’s an accurate, lightweight little package now. 1/2in groups at 55yds. Great little gun but the Skyhawk suffers from the exact same problems as some of the P15s, however with a little work they can be overcome and I hope this info helps someone else. In the end you will have an extremely accurate hard hitting little beast if all goes well.

I own this in .177 and .22, like them both a lot. I have much more expensive air rifles that, admittedly , shoot more accurately. Now here's the funny part...anytime I go out to shoot off hand in my 35 yard "house" range (backyard) I grab the skyhawk 9 times out of 10. It's just very fun to shoot and I will be using it for squirrel season this year.

Wouldn’t say the trigger is a true two-stage. It’s a single stage with some “play” that makes it feel like a two-stage. Have to agree that the barrel is VERY picky with pellets. Bought the Donny Ronin for the .25 but believe there is clipping because 1 of 5 fliers I also get-it’s strange behavior but now know it happens. Would I buy it again? No, will not-the Skyhawk has a long way to go before it gets better. As a Daystate and Air Arms, Hatsan, Diana and Umarex owner I’m stunned by how good the Umarex Gauntlet is. I would say overall the Gauntlet feels better in hand, has a more adjustable trigger, is not finicky with pellet selection, is more tunable without tearing completely apart, and is more accurate than the Skyhawk. And it’s less expensive by half. Edit: Tried Steve’s combo with Donny’s Tanto + Skyhawk cone. Result: No Go. Tried a .30 moderator to remove any possibility of clipping. Result: Still No-Go. Tried different pellets from H&N, JSB, Benjamin. Result: Still No-go. Bottom line: terrible accuracy, random fliers. Bad barrel. Lemon.

nice one, Steve!! i've been eagerly awaiting more coverage on this gun from you ever since i saw your initial interviews from SHOT and IWA. it's a really great looking rifle, and what a great deal on that Optisan scope, cheers to UA! odd about the red zone on the manometer, as well as the clipping issues. i actually have a Donny FL moderator that i've had clipping issues with, but to be fair to Donny, i believe it to be due to the factory Marauder shroud being slightly misaligned and the clipping is due to the fact that the DonnyFL moderator has to be threaded into an adaptor fitted on the factory shroud, so it experienced the same issue that you did on the Skyhawk. thanks for the content Steve, looking forward to the full review!!

Had to work on the sumo to fix the baffles and Donnie sent me a free adapter to try and also told me to try a .25 suppressor. Come to find out the shroud was bent. Sent it back before my 30 days was up. Great gun if you want to do extra work.

Great vlog 😄 I suspect a lot of the 'proprietary' improvements are marketing speak more than anything substantial. Not a major thing as the p15 is a solid gun. I had one and the trigger as well as the play etc in the sidelever were exactly as you describe. The trigger is easily improved and the sidelever works really smoothly 👍🏻 You are FAR from the first to have clipping with those baffles 😂 Check out the south african airgun forum on the p15 - probably the most exhaustive out there. They may as well have used coke bottle tops for baffles. They shift around and cause all sorts of issues. Pretty much everyone here gets rid of them immediately. Regarding the barrel lottery, the gunsmith that rebarreled mine has a theory that they turn down the larger OD p12 barrels to fit the p15, as every one he's done has a slightly, inconsistently oversized bore diameter, which may explain the severe pellet pickiness? Who knows for sure though? Mine was a tomato stake. Hopefully the regulator is more robust too. The trend here at least seemed to be failure within a few months, obviously with the odd exception. In the end after replacing those bits (LW 12mm with bushings, Huma) and tweaking the trigger I had a laser gun punching well above its price point even with the extras. Not sure if it would be worth it if you still have to replace things on this given the price premium it demands.

Steve: a couple other points. That “rolling” feeling before the trigger breaks is a small amount of extra tension needed between the turn knuckle and sear. It’s held together by a cotter pin-and unless there is zero play in that linkage there will always remain that rolling sensation. That cotter pin design is a little wonky in my opinion that SPA could improve. Lastly my first Skyhawk had to be returned as soon as it arrived because it wasn’t holding air-there was a leak in the system. On a second Skyhawk there was air that would puff right into my eye after every shot-the o-rings in the barrel had to be replaced. Luckily Diana packs a set of o-rings that came with Skyhawk. So it had lots of issues from the bag. Again long way to go Diana/SPA.

I seem to be confused about the Optisan product. When I investigate the HX Model number, it is an old MTC Model and no longer is offered by Optisan, yet you discuss the optics as one in the same. Which is it: the MTC model supported by Optisan or A true Optisan with the higher optics. Airguns of Arizona still is offering the 4x12x40AO "Optisan" at $149, so I am confused!!
@AEAC4 жыл бұрын
Years ago, Optisan was the manufacturer of MTC among other OEMs. These days, they are not. That's about all I've got buddy. One thing ya might do is search the Optisan factory interviews I've done on this channel (done 2) and/or visit the Tranier or Utah Airguns websites to see what Optisan has to offer direct these days.

When I last checked on the P-15 about 6 months ago they were $550 shipped to the USA and I got my 25cal Skyhawk for $629. The Manneli stock is well worth the extra $79 and not sure if Snow peak or Diana fixed the issues with the magazines but I haven’t had any problems at all with the 2 that came with my Skyhawk. With some barrel, shroud, baffle and trigger work you can overcome all the problems with the P-15 or Skyhawk and it makes a very nice accurate hard hitting lightweight bullpup. I haven’t shot any of my other PCP rifles since I got my Skyhawk a little over 3 months ago.

Shrouded barrels sold as suppressors it's getting a pity I noticed the same problem with the Kral puncher breaker "silenced" with this famous inefficient mounting. The designers should be more careful a shrouded barrel can suppress sound if they work on the concept, working only the look is just good for airsoft replicas but PCP rifles are really noisy and deserve a bit of work.
