All the whining about the books not being finished has gotten more annoying than the state of the series at this point. The books have been growing in length, with only AFFC buckling that trend. If the 1500 page length of Winds of Winter is to be believed, that makes it literally longer than GoT and Clash of Kings put together, and a whopping 50% longer than Dance with Dragons. How long did DwD take? ~6 years. So you'd expect Winds of Winter finished in about ~9 years, which, incidentally, is 2020.

"I don't want everybody to die at 26" Kinda surprised GRRM has fallen for the infant death-weighted statistics of premodern life expectency
@floraposteschild41845 жыл бұрын
That's a huge pet peeve of mine. If you don't include infant and early childhood mortality, people lived to around the same age as they did up until the 20th century. I get the impression GRRM's knowledge of history is not deep -- he knows some stories, but not what was going on behind the stories.
@DeathRex885 жыл бұрын
I think its a case of what he was limited to learning at the time. His knowledge is probably deep in many ways but shallow in terms of not being knowledgeable in new info and the correction of historical misconceptions.
@floraposteschild41845 жыл бұрын
@@DeathRex88 Sociological/economic analysis of history has been around since the 19th century, and there were widely available books about it all through the 20th century. Not to mention Marxist analysis of history, which has been around since Marx. If GRRM has taken college or university level courses, he should certainly know the history I mean, and written papers about it. It's probable he just misspoke and knows that people didn't literally die at 26. But it's something that bugged me about the series, especially the later seasons. It's supposed to be "realistic", but the constantly grimdark world couldn't possibly work in real life, or if it does, we don't see it. All those troops and supplies must be coming from somewhere.

Well, that’s mostly true. Many people did die in infancy or childhood. One third were gone by their teens. However, if people survived to adulthood people often lived to 40s, 50s, and some to 60s. Dying at 40 wouldn’t be uncommon.

There isn’t one, it’s there to express my pessimistic view of WoW likely not coming out any time soon, you see through my words posted onto this platform, others may read it and agree or share a similar mind. Has this answer satisfied you? If not then by all means I’m sure we can spend hours dissecting word by word the means of my comment in much greater depth since you clearly have nothing better to do than ask inane questions to get a rise out of people. Or ya know, it’s just an opinion and if I wanted to achieve something, I’d post more than five words and it wouldn’t be on KZbin.

No one is saying he should rush it , but 8 years for one book seems a bit long , however he has a lot of side projects going on, so I am sure these take a lot of his time. The only question remains is if he will live long enough to finish his series. Also to the few people who had some salty remarks with regards to the world of Tolkien are doing the man a huge disservice. I have read Lord of the Rings multiple times and enjoyed it each time I read it ( although I skipped the "describe the scene parts at some point) and there is some real heart and depth in there ... I mean Aragon's verse has a certain music to it and if you read the epilogue and the sadness of the passing of the 3rd age in general , I cannot imagine anyone not feeling something. Yes LOTR is a product of its age and its maker, so sex is not a big thing yet love is, as well as a certain swansong about the final deathblow to old country life and the final victory of the Industrial revolution, as well as the costs of war. Now I like GRRM's books in their own right, but I can't imagine reading them again ... and even though I dislike season 8 of the TV series, up until that point I think D&D were very efficient in storytelling and in some instances I even prefer the TV version of certain events over the book version of said event. I mean looking at Meereen for instance , the entire last book hardly anything really happened plot development wise ... also the fact that Jorah is the one with greyscale and happens to come across of Sam tying everything was much cleaner ... and Jon Snow being a targaryen and going to hardhome in the series was great ... in the books he may very well remain dead ( although I doubt it). Again I like depth of characters and season 8 and perhaps a part of 7 really screwed the pooch there in teh series, but before that it was in balance ... in the books you just go from dialoque to dialoque exploring characters ...but looking at actual events/progression of the plot it moves along like a snail. And looking at the pace and where he might be going as to the conclusion icw his writing pace, I hope he has something of Numenor in him, because otherwise I think he dies before he will finish

The ending of the TV series was so bad im not sure I want to finish reading his series. If hes going to end the books in a simular fashion to the TV series it feels like an insult to the journey. Example, he teased that John Snow was of royal blood since book 1. And to dump him back on the wall shits all over Snows entire story arc. What was the point to know he the rightful heir if your not going to pay it off. And there are many more examples. I've suffer this depressing series because it was written well and their was the promise that the ending would be worth the journey. But I'm not sure of that anymore.
@andrewvelazquez88335 жыл бұрын
Mark Bauer a lot of his story is about how royal blood shouldn’t matter, and Feudalism is well, feudal, compared to other forms of government. Jon succeeds despite not knowing his true parentage.

@@marsxSIN the first 5 seasons of the TV show are almost identical to the first three books. So they do have something to do with the books. They drew heavily from them.
@mbvurawn3705 жыл бұрын
@Dark Wizard then you must not have read the books. They took a lot scenes verbatim from the books. Though the TV show did add and change scenes for times sake its overall arch was virtually identical to the books. Til about book 3 and season 5. Were characters were excluded and arces were condensed. Which is all irrelevant. It doesnt matter if it's the series or the novels. For all the foreshadowing they did with snow and other, to not pay it off sucks. I understand a good author shouldn't given the reader everything they want, but the way the TV series ended was shameful. It was a spit in the face to all the fans who watched religiously and rooted for these characters.

DUUUUUDE medieval Persia is fit for Dorne even the stories in English online about the characters in Persia (later known as Iran) are well... to some point legendary, Zoroastrianism was and still is a religion revolving around fire which sounds familiar, Dynasty of Achaemenian were stuff of legends, the buildings they made (pre-medieval) the technology they had, 550 BC they had sewer systems in their cities; all of these were in Persia later known as Iran which is 3rd world country now, because of 2 major invaders Mongols and Arabs; they burned down our libraries with all one-of-a-kind manuscripts about science, Astronomy in Persia was millennia ahead of the world now they think Stonehenge is a wonder... dude a Persian astronomer invented Alchohol... they were often working in several fields; of course back then Persian dynasty was stretched half way across the world but still language was pre-Farsi original Persian all accross the country
