Just came back from 3 weeks in the middle east with the Aer 2. Holy crap was it awesome. Fit in every overhead bin even on regional flights. Super durable. Assortment of pockets helped me creatively solve many packing problems. Thanks for this detailed vid to help me make the choice.

I honestly don't understand how this bag grabbed the #1 spot on Pack Hackers best travel backpack article. No load lifters, can't hide the straps and pay-extra for hip belt? I have been traveling for a couple years with a backpack and IMHO those are very important features to go missing. The rest of the bag isn't that much better that its competitors, so I really don't get it. Even with that said, I want to say thank you to Pack Hacker. I really appreciate how detailed all the reviews are. I might not agree with the reviewer, but they always give me enough info that I can make an informed decision for myself.

The bottle pocket is great, but I wish more bag companies centered the pocket like Tom Bihn Synapse/ Synik. Water is one of the heaviest items you typically carry when traveling, seems silly to throw all that weight to one side.

Thanks for video ! Just purchased one regarding your test and other youtubers reviews. Need to test the bag on field but it seems really good out of box. I was hesitating with travel peak design bag but zippers, hook and too much "sophisticated feel" made me choice Aer.

Thank you for another awesome video and for all the work you put into them, they really help. You're one of my favorite channels for sure. With all the traveling I do, I'm always on the lookout for new tips, tricks, and gear that helps make my life easier, though I still have yet to get down to the 1 bag travel, I'm down from a 32 inch checked bag, to a carry on roller with a briefcase, still trying to shave that down even further, but I struggle shrinking down needed meds, sunscreens, Advils, things you might need on the road if you're in a smaller town area with less access or more distant access to a drugstore if you find yourself not feeling well, and balancing that with toiletries, any tips? Also, I had the AER V1, buy sold it because as much as I liked the bag, the shoulder straps were too close together, too thin, and that weight was felt anything past about 15-20 minutes of wear that was really uncomfortable, especially with a 15 inch MacBook Pro. I've been using mostly my GR2, but it's just overkill for business trips sometimes, and tends to look out of place, though my main reason for carrying it is the large degree of organization, compartmentalization, and minimalist exterior being the big one with no excess straps or hooks, I like things that have a clean look, not like a gypsy camp, or "kabel-salat" as you so articulately put, but more my issue is "strappen-salat", if that's even a word, I hate when bags look like hiking bags with stuff and straps just flying all every which way, haha. I'm thinking about getting the AER V2 per your review, and thinking about cutting off the compression straps, what are your thoughts? Also, do you have a link out to AER if I do so I can help you out in return by using your link to buy?

I plan on getting this bag in the near future. Will this be small enough to be a personal bag for most airlines? Thank you
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian - we always recommend checking with the individual airlines you'll be flying with because from our experience most of them are different and they're constantly changing too. You can also check out our Carry-On Compliance feature on our full written review. Aer Travel Pack 2: packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/ This is a guideline that shows the carry-on compliance for a wide range of airlines, so if it isn't carry-on compliant, chances are it's not going to be small enough for a personal item either. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions. 😊👍 - Rebecca

1:16 Is it possible to remove the extension cord pull tabs on the outside zippers without cutting them off? They seem kind of unnecessary since the zippers are already quite big. It's just one extra thing that adds weight and dangles around. That being said, I would like the option to reinstall them later if I regret my decision (don't own the bag yet, so I can't test if they are removable)

Pack Hacker Well first thing I did was, just for fun, put my Errant backpack into it and tuck it on, and woaw, ypu really feel how good the harness system is. It still miss the small things like loops and so on, but sometimes less is more, and I need to make a configuration so I can use my Cargo-belt (boundary hip belt) in conjuction with the Travel Pack. I discovered that the laptop compartment has a pocket with false bottom that can be used for a 15” laptop or a ipad. I wrote to them to hear if that is a 2.5 change, or maybe most reviewer missed it. All is all I am looking forward to use it as a gym/edc and when I have to travel.

I’m deciding on which travel bag to buy (in the 30 lt range) but no matter how many reviews I read I can’t figure out how important load lifters are. Even the Nomatic Travel Pack, which would be the one I’m zoning in on (if the new version ever starts shipping to Europe) doesn’t feature them. So... where is the truth? Some makers don’t add them and some even go as far as removing them (as we see in this Aer), and then again some add them on second thought (as Tortuga did on the Setout, if I’m not mistaken). Reviews seem generally to be quite unsure or noncommittal about the topic. For example, I may read in the same review that load lifters are not a big deal BUT may be missed when carrying a full pack. Wait... if I buy a 30 or 33 lt travel pack wouldn’t walking around with all my gear kinda be the point? Confused 🤔 This point aside, love your reviews, always helpful, thanks! 😊
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Joshua - finding a backpack that will fit you right isn't always easy, so an adjustable harness system can come in super helpful. Load lifters come in handy if you're carrying a heavy pack or when your pack has a solid frame, especially one that's higher than your shoulders. They do a great job of securing the bag closer to your back which will improve the weight distribution and your overall carry. However, on smaller and lighter packs, this feature isn't always necessary but if you're filling your bag up with heavier items, then load lifters may be worth considering. Tortuga also released this page to share with you why they added load lifters to the Setout blog.tortugabackpacks.com/setout-load-lifters/ Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions! - Rebecca

@@PackHacker hi Rebecca, thank you for the clarification and the link. Very useful indeed! My carrying loads are quite average, I think. I work as a cartoonist/animator, so on the move I have the usual graphics gear: 15" MacBook, iPad, A4 Wacom tablet, chargers, paper sketchbook, a bunch of pens. Plus, occasionally, whatever it takes in clothing for minimal 1 to 3 (stretch to 4) days out. Not great loads but... not small ones either. I was considering Tortuga buy I live in Italy and they've temporarily stopped shipping outside the U.S. (in their notice it says thy'll reopen international sales as soon as they are sure they can guarantee satisfactory customer assistance, which I must say really speaks loads well for this company). Aer Travel Pack 2 was my other choice instead of Nomatic's TP, until I became aware of the lift loader thing (which I may simply choose to ignore, or go Eeny Meeny Miny Moe... 'cause one's gotta decide at a certain point! :D ). Thanks again for the help, please excuse my rambling, I'm a novice to the bag world... still learning! :)

I love your videos. I purchased a Synapse 25 for a trip to Paris later this year. I have the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 (2013 model ballistic) I’m 5’3” and 62. I'm in great shape but the 45 packed is really heavy. Tom Bihn suggested i purchase the waist straps and the internal frame for more comfort. But I’m thinking of just a new bag. (I love bags, lol) So with that said I have 2 questions, one is the Synapse 25 big enough for a one bag travel (at least 8/9 days) and if not what would you suggest as an additional bag for my collection?

If the straps stowed, there was a false bottom for the laptop, and it used a zipper for compression (Nomatic Travel Pack style) it would be perfect. Wish Nomatic would use this material quality.

Yes please do a video comparing this to the version 1, which I have. I think the bag should be a little bigger, maybe 36 liters. When I use the bag i carry a pair of size 12 shoes and the Aer packing cube which fills up the main compartment. That leaves really tight space for the compartments on the front side. I feel there should be more flexibility there. And lastly, I have zero room for my toiletry bag. Other than that, it holds up very well and I've had it for 1 year. The grey version at that with only 900+ ballistic nylon;less than the black version. Video please!

My friend and I got to check out the Aer Travel Pack 2 in person today. And we both exclaimed, "This is a backpack, not a travel pack." The 33L goes out the window if you decide to use the shoe compartment. The material, quality, and silhouette is beautiful. The compression straps are a serious nuisance in the way of the zippers (something other reviews have repeatedly stated). I own the the Aer Duffel Pack, and this is simply a slightly bigger version. I am about to go see the Peak 45L in person. In videos, and just by the numbers, it's a much bigger bag, more suited for traveling.

I really like this bag, but I wish it had a center mount bottle holder like the Tom Bihn Synapse. I can’t believe more companies haven’t designed center bottle pockets. IMO water is one of the single heaviest items an average traveler will carry. A side mount bottle pocket throws pack weight off.

Will this fit under the airplane seat? I don’t want to check in luggage for fear of having it lost since I am traveling internationally. Ideally I would put the carry on in the overhead compartment and this bag under the airplane seat. Just want to know if it’s not too big to be under the seat.

I'm pretty much set getting Aer. The only trouble is picking the material or style. The grey is eco polyester 900d, camo is 1000d cordura, black 1680d ballistic nylon cordura. What material do you guys prefer and why? Which is easiest to clean?

I am using packing cubes and i wounder how thick packing cubes i can use in organization pocket? I am not using any organization layout usually but in your review looks quite flat.
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey KraKra - it really depends on how you're packing your bag because if the main compartment is at full capacity there's going to be less room in the front compartment. However, if you're not using the organization layout, then using a flat pouch like the Fjallraven Gear Pocket packhacker.com/travel-gear/fjallraven/gear-pocket/ or the Mission Workshop Internal Tool Roll packhacker.com/travel-gear/mission-workshop/internal-tool-roll/ would work. However, depending on how the main compartment is packed, a small Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Tech Compression Cube packhacker.com/travel-gear/eagle-creek/pack-it-specter-cubes/ will just about fit if it's compressed. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions! - Rebecca

Pack Hacker : will GR2 34l version offer more volume in front/middle big pocket? When i say front pocket i mean bigger middle organization pocket on both backpacks and not a small pocket in front of both backpacks. The idea is to use tech pouches or other small pouches like from topodesign to store smaller items like headlight, charging cables or maybe powerbank, etc...to me it look like GR2 34l offers more dimension ir volume in pocket i am asking for. Correct?
@PackHacker
@PackHacker 5 жыл бұрын
Hey KraKra - we currently do not have the GORUCK GR2 34L version to confirm or verify this 100%, but flat pouches like the Topo Design Accessory Bags packhacker.com/travel-gear/topo-designs/accessory-bags/ and the North St. Bags Pittock Travel Pouches packhacker.com/travel-gear/north-st-bags/pittock-travel-pouches/ should fit. Tom, I'm considering it as a future purchase, yes. It's a cross between my Tom Bihn Synapse and the eBags motherlode, both of which I like for different reasons. I think this Aer covers the open suitcase feature and has the durable lightweight material of the Synapse AND the compression straps of the motherlode👍. But not all the weight of the motherlode. Top of my list right now. Thanks a bunch for reviewing this, and I will certainly let you know when I purchase it. Thinking maybe around black Friday🎄🎅....or at the latest next April when I arrive back in the states again.

Hey SquadSgt, deciding on which pack works better for you really depends on you and your travel style. Working out which features are a must-have (such as internal organization, water bottle pockets, or the capacity) will help you find the right pack. There's also a big difference in size between these two packs as well. To give you a better idea of how much you can pack in the Aer Travel Pack 2, we recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List where take you through everything we packed for long term travel in this bag. We also recommend taking a look at the full reviews of these packs side by side. You can then check out the pros, cons, and different features these packs offer, plus our experience using them too.
