The Warrnambool Railway Station is located in Victoria Australia, south west of the state capital Melbourne and is likely to take 3 hours + journey by rail or road.
The Terang to Warrnambool section of the Geelong-Warrnambool railway line opened in 1890. Warrnambool railway station opened on 4 February 1890, and while it was originally not a terminus station as the line continued to Port Fairy, it was the major station after Geelong.
The Railway Precinct is of historical significance as the representation of a transport revolution which transformed passenger traffic and the import and export of goods and produce. It also marked the immediate conclusion of coach travel and the eventual decline of coastal shipping.
Warrnambool comes from the language of the Kuurn Kopan Noot Aborigines. It is said to mean either "two swamps", "a growing tree", “place of plenty" or "ample water"

i'm surprised to see the turntable disconnected from the main lines. ive seen videos where steam engines are turned on it.

@@urbanaerialexplorer1885 , cost. it might have needed money spent on the turntable or the track or points that led to it so they removed the connection.

Yea but the engines they use on the trains are double ended so they don’t need being turned. They just run around now. And I assume Vline isn’t going to maintain it for a random steam excursion.

@@xr6lad , correct, correct, correct on all points. however, country towns guard their turntables jealously. turntables bring steam engines with tourists to their town. the local council will have discussed the issue of the inactive turntable. wycheproof has had an opening ceremony for their recently re-opened turntable complete with a steam train which bought food and drink at the main street, which the train goes down.

The historic images were in poor condition and difficult to show clearly - A pleasant surprise was how clean the stations were along the way void of graffiti and any vandalism - I wonder if that's a result of Police Protective Service Officer being proactive to stamp that behaviour out.
