The thing that people need to understand about these specs is this: Yes, they're lower than the newest gen consoles in competing companies, BUT, those consoles you can't pick up and bring wherever you want as easily as a Switch. Considering the portability of that power, and the fact that Nintendo games already look AMAZING for the specs they had to work with on the Switch, this is going to open the doors for some of the most beautiful scenes and realistic shading that has ever been seen in a video game, simply because Nintendo puts the work in to optimizing EVERYTHING.

While I agree in general that it's simply not going to be used for many of the same things as the other consoles, the memory and CPU upgrades alone make it far more CAPABLE of running many of the other AAA titles from at least the PS4 generation, and a handful of PS5 gen titles with low settings (but with the DLSS to supplement them). Ultimately, this hardware is only as powerful as the effectiveness you utilize it, which is why the Switch supports massive open world titles like BotW and TotK with hardware likened to a cheap 32 bit thinkpad. It's the same reason why so many companies like Apple are massively investing into ARM technology too- they realize that they don't need to use it the same way you use x86 architecture, and so they get maximum efficiency out of it. Ultimately, people put too much focus into the hardware side of things considering the hardware that landed a ship on the moon is comparable to a TI-84 calculator, and even the weakest brand new computers today are a quadrillion times more powerful than that. Maximizing use of the hardware we have is far more important to progress, and when people say "The PS5 is so much more powerful", what they really mean is "The PS5's games are so unoptimized that they NEED a space heater to run", and is exactly why I choose to look at the wins for companies that put the work into what matters.

​@Dairunt1 Yep. The Switch had a very underclocked Tegra x1 that pushed out roughly half a TFLOP. The PS4 was 1.8 TFLOPS. Almost 4 times as powerful as Switch. Word is that the next Switch will be on par with both the PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S. Both are 4 TFLOPS while the PS5 is 10.3 TFLOPS. So we're going from 28% of the power of PS4 to 39% of the power of a PS5. Or we could just say the next Switch will be 8 times more powerful than the current Switch.

Xbox and Playstation is Burning and Switch succesor was announced. A great generation in the making. Hoping for a minimum of 1080p x 60 fps handheld. If they achieve that with native processing the competion will be burned by switch 2.

This year in particular is shaping up to be pretty bad for gaming; Xbox is burning up studios, PlayStation has sold below projections and has no first-party ready for this year, and Nintendo is taking their sweet time to announce the Switch 2; and with good reason (for them as a company). This is the perfect chance for Nintendo to announce a healthy drop of AA games (like ports or simpler games) in succession, while they're cooking their big AAA for the Switch 2; but for them to take the spotlight, you need to delay the Switch 2 announcment as much as possible. Because once that thing gets revealed, interest in the Switch is going to drop considerably, and you don't want to cannibalize your own sales. The Switch is on its way to become the best-selling console in video game history; I don't blame them for taking their time to squeeze a bit more juice out of it. As soon as Xbox and PlayStation get back on their feet, Nintendo will have a trailer ready to trend in social media, and the only compromise they've given to the general public is that's in goingt to be sometime between now and March 2025.

As impressive as how powerful game consoles are getting, I care much less about the specs of the console, than the games that will be coming out on them. Some of my favourite games were from 20 year old consoles. It's tiring when people hype up console specs, like Sega and Nintendo trying to one-up each other with how many bits their console was.

32GB is the real storage space; I remember that, at launch, there were 25GBs available to the user because the rest is saved for the operating system and other internal files for the Switch; I suspect it's even lower now because of the amount of updates these last 7 years. It always happens with electronics, just because it has a 32GB memory it doesn't mean all of it is available to you.

Switch has 32 GB nand but the os will use some of that as well as possibly things like game saves and firmware updates as well which would make it seem like it's less storage than it actually is.

I’m mainly a PlayStation gamer, but I have to say the Switch concept is really nice. Both a powerful TV console and a handheld device on the go is perfect. Wish PlayStation could offer a similar device. PS portal is not good enough.

It's LPDDR4, and LPDDR5 isn't cutting edge, LPDDR5x is. 8GB would have been fine, why would companies have problem with Switch 2's 8GB of Ram but not have had that problem with the PS4's 8GB of Ram? the ligher OS would have left devs with more Ram too, 16GB is overkill, 12GB sounds like Nintendo are planning to run at least their games at 4k. The gulf in storage bandwidth is actually quite large, but games would be designed around the lowest common denominator which would be the cart speed, so if carts can only be sourced at 500mb/s and the internal storage is around 1.3gb/s then games will be designed not specifically taking advantage of that extra bandwidth.

8gb is fine when youre working with ps4 level games, but we left that generation behind 4 years. New games require new hardware and if you want more than just ps4 games or low end ports, youre gonna need more ram. Weve already seen how important ram is with the series s, where developers have complained that the system has 10gb instead of 12. If the new switch is actually somewhere around a series s in docked, then 8gb would only make that situation worse

Totk is already pushing the switch to its absolute limit and the zelda team could have done way, way more graphics and performance wise with 12gb of ram. @@QuantumChrist I think that the reason as to why they're taking their time to announce the Switch 2 is them waiting for the OG Switch (the $300 model) to gradually decrease in sales, to the point of stopping production altogether. Think of it like a plane landing gracefully instead of plumetting it into the ground by a bigger plane. Once production of the OG Switch stops, they can drop the price of the OLED from $350 to $300, that way they have three models available to the consumer: the $200 Switch Lite, the $300 Switch OLED and the $400 Switch 2. Those are comfy price gaps so they don't intervene each other in sales. Specially if they want (and they probably do) the Switch to still last a very long time.

Devs can do miracles even with 6-8 gb or ram .(I say it as a example as I have ps4 base and play Vermintide 2 at 30-40fps 1080p and is something current switch not capable of) . Nintendo cant put ps5 level gpu in switch 2 because of battery life and heat. They just cant currently . As I suspect. at best, ps4 pro performance and that will be 4k 30fps for the nintendo type games that are not demanding like mario and 1080p 60fps for more heavy weight games . It will most probably be heavily using dynamic scaling. I just hope they put inside hardware and a slot for 3ds and ds games and obviously dual screen . That will counter the current scalpers on ebay with the 3ds prices .
