Great job arranging this meeting of the minds, Dale. 3 hrs of boot talk is unheard of and super niche, and I'm on the edge of my seat for every second of it!

Great show! To shorten a belt a cobbler can simple shorten the back; no new holes needed.

thank you!!! yeah i was thinking about that afterward, no new holes necessary; just remove the buckle hardware, cut the excess off, and re-install the hardware!!

Great conversation Dale. I store my boots/shoes in The Container Store large clear shoe boxes. They have a drop front clear door and are really awesome. I purchased 18 of them (sold in sets of 6). My boots have to be laid down sideways. You should definitely check them out.

Easy place to start for leather jackets I would say schott. American owned company from NYC, lots of history and vintage ones can easily be found for half the price.

Hey I love to hear different opinions. It’s how we grow. We can’t all agree. How dull would that be? Great video was nice that you all teamed up. Great thing about the net. Yeah I agree if someone is too pro with no cons I tend to mistrust it.

Great video. I watched it all over two days. Love to see more. Also, if anyone of you can tackle one or more of the following topics in upcoming videos: Dainite soles on heritage boots vs. Leather vs. vibram (good or bad), socks for boots (merino, thickness, brands etc.), waterproof leather boots (any good?). Thanks.
@DalesLeatherworks

adding this to the list, ESPECIALLY the bits about soles and socks!!! I am realizing a discussion must be had on these subjects!!!!
@frankrizzo7185
@frankrizzo7185 3 жыл бұрын
That really would be a great show. Commonly leather soles get a bad rap. I like Dainites but starting to appreciate leather soles more. Even within leather soles, do JR’s breath leas than ‘house’ leather soles? A show on just leather/double leather soles would be cool.

Honest I don’t think you should change much, you can have little snippets of obvious criticism but if you don’t mind it your average Joe for sure ain’t gonna. I’d probably would have been discouraged about getting into to the boot world if it were not for you being as enthusiastic and joyful as you’ve been. My favorite video of yours is you telling the story of how your tree was falling onto the house and you were wearing a suede boot I believe, after that I wore my suede boots and treated a little less gently 👍

On Jake's point about being "too enthusiastic". I feel like there has to be a balance. Some people on YT just talk about "how awesome" and "how perfect" the boots are and how they will "last forever". The fact is, no boot is going to "last forever" for one thing. And every boot has areas where it could likely improve, especially compared to boots at a similar pricepoint. There are gives and takes between quality and price as well as quality of certain parts, like having a proprietary outsole but making up for it with better leather uppers and better clicking, or offshoring production at the benefit of lower prices. Over enthusiasm, to me, tends to create unrealistic expectations for many consumers. Which is something Jake talked about on the Viberg CXL boots. At least if people are aware, more objectively, of the quality of the boots, then people can formulate their own opinion on quality. On the other hand though, if you aren't a little amped on the brand, then it won't make people wanna buy them anyway. And fit, to me is, arguably, the most important factor anyway. It doesn't matter if the boot is $200 or $2,000, if it doesn't fit me well, I don't wanna wear it. Which is why I tend to not listen to most peoples "reviews" on this stuff anymore anyway. Because "reviewing" has seemingly become more about promotion than it is about actual reviews and talking about the boots from an objective standpoint.

Funny, I own five pair of Whites, never had an issue on QC. I’ve had Alden and Viberg with issues. Not saying Whites are perfect.
@georgecarlin2879

Whites and Danner are both owned by ABC. Nicks broke off from Whites which is why their styling is almost indistinguisable, and now Franks broke off from Nicks. Franks is the most 'work boot' specialty maker for those in trades, of those 3 names. Wesco and JK to me , are also more work boot oriented than Nicks or Whites. Franks, Wesco and JK have the least 'dressy' models to choose from. Just my observation and from reading up and watching lots and lots of videos on them. Oh and Dave, your 'worm' will disappear after age 45-50, trust me. LOL ! I used to be called tapeworm by friend n family. Not anymore!

Jake, I have to say that I think you’re going overboard with trying to eliminate bias. Keep in mind that affiliate links only amount to very very small amounts of revenue for KZbinrs, so the idea that they indicate significant bias may not be true. If content creators only choose to use affiliate links for products or brands they trust and believe in, then of course their reviews will be positive. They are likely only reviewing products that they have personally used and approve of. There is also the issue of balancing bias issues with the economic viability of being a content creator. There has to be a way that content creators can be objective while also earning income.

well, duration of a youtube video really depends on how interesting that person is, and the content, if a person drag on too long to too far away from the actual topic like Jake's old video, its really boring especially when you are first time viewer.

Although I don't disagree entirely I think a key thing Jake didn't mention is that "better" is only objective if you define what better represents, if your measured data is objective, and is scientifically valid in process. So a lot of people will say something is "better" based on subjective measurements or measurements which do not accurately represent the target statement. For example "This jacket/boot is better because it's more robust and rugged." Is something many reviewers will say but they have no or minimal real objective data to support that statement. They derive that idea from multiple sources which may or may not be accurate indicators such as anecdotal evidence from other people, personal anecdotal evidence which isn't on scale or derived scientifically, garage science level testing, "feel", thickness, weight, etc. While for personal purposes this is the natural process of judgement of something which we encounter it isn't objective or scientifically accurate.
