She is only talking about an idealized/romanticized Western idea of Islam & equates Western women being expected to dress in revealing clothing & makeup as equivalent to wearing hijab- when it's always a choice for women here to do those things. Unless you are specifically in a job that expects certain attire (ex: exotic dancing) There is so much "Islam is progressive/feminist" propaganda from left wing folks that just want to piss off right wing Christians & western imperialists. This is currently me as a college student in a Muslim family. Having my own car makes it easier though. It was much worse in high school since I had this weird teacher who would tell my parents I was taking it off. So, I had to forcefully wear it out of fear. The hijab is only shown as a choice of those who willingly do so. It does not show the beating, shouting, and shaming it comes with to coercion women and girls. The hijab is not a choice. It is a law in Islam that must be followed and enforced if not done so. But hopefully I only have one more year of being in the closet.

One very humorous (well, frightening) instance of this happened to me. I have a friend (who is a woman) who shared her frightening experiences with men who have harassed her in various ways, and she would discuss this in a group chat we had. Whenever she discussed these things, I sided with her, yet there was one dude in the chat who would never say anything, who'd get weirdly quiet whenever we had these discussions. Well (to make a really long story short), one day he ended up dropping her and leaving the group chat saying that she had "concerning views towards men" I guess for daring to discuss male hate crimes. He blocked me to but without any explanation, I guess he thought I was "misandrist" too just by mere association with her. Even though I'm a guy too...? You can't make this shit up.

I love your videos but I had to comment here- thanks for making this one. As an ex-Muslim woman, I find the pink-washing of Islam pretty interesting especially in the West. The problematic rules for women always existed in Islam. Our mothers and grandmothers would accept that these are problematic, and they'd usually respond with "Yes it's not fair, but it's a test for us women, and Allah will reward us for our patience". Nowadays Western Muslimahs and reverts find new mental gymnastics to justify these.

The Catholics are doing it too. It's so bad, Siren. Women used to have to veil for Mass back when my grandmother was a girl (1950s) but it was removed as a requirement in the 60s with Vatican II. Everyone stopped doing it, especially because it was the 60s and it became extremely apparent how weird of a double standard it is (men don't have to do anything for Mass). For decades, literally no one did it. Guess what? All of the sudden, in the past few months, women in their 20s are veiling for Mass again. My grandma, who really isn't much of a feminist but remembers thinking it was weird back when she had to do it, is pissed. All the Catholic women her age I know are, too. Even a lot of the priests (all men) find it off-putting and sexist. It's all for the aesthetic (I'll admit--the veils (called mantillas) do look kinda cool. If you ignore the context). I could write a whole essay about tradcaths and how insane and hollow their beliefs are. Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy have been seeing massive increases in young converts, and they all seem to have the famous "zeal of the convert", with crazy extreme beliefs, even for those traditions. Bit of a ramble here but I study religion and live in a cathedral city so I see it all the time and it's getting to me. (Loved the video!)

I'm an Eastern Catholic myself from India. And for us veiling is just normal for when you attend church, you always have the option to not veil. I do it cause it's not really that big a deal just like a 'uniform' I guess when you're in a praying mood. The difference is we have a choice to do that, I could veil one Sunday and not the next and no one's going to ask questions about it. So I do think that's quite not the same at all.

The thing with the tradwive glorification is that while it's true that there may be some, big emphasis on "some" more traditionalist men who won't turn into awful controlling husbands and truly would treat their (trad)wife with respect and care, there are far too many who don't fit this and will act very controlling because they will feel like they have the power and their (trad)wife will have to deal with it lest she becomes financially destitute if she were to leave him. It's very interesting (and telling) that a lot of the women that I've seen glorifying the whole tradwive thing tend to be young women, at least women under 35. I don't personally know women around my age who are doing the tradwive thing and I think it's because they realize how dangerous a setup like that can be. I'm mostly seeing zoomers and the youngest of millennials romanticizing this lifestyle and they either have not listened to what a lot of the original 1950s tradwives had to deal with or simply don't have much experience with dating the modern man and how if you're going for "high value" men, they will be pretty awful in the long-term though they won't learn this until it's too late. The Ballerina Farm story is a good example of this and the woman wasn't even intending on being a tradwife right away. More importantly, I think this young women glorifying this who have experienced life in the modern western day being able to do all kinds of things don't have the foresight to realize how boring the tradwife life may become after awhile. And pretty much all of what the woman at @16:24 warned about, these are things that these young women need to realize the likeliness of happening if something were to happen to their health and/or physicality.
@Jane-ow7sr
@Jane-ow7sr Ай бұрын
Yeahhh no. It's not the western traditional lifestyle at fault but the individual. 1. Don't just go for any man 2. It's the modern age babe, you are not forced to work in the house, you can get an online job and college education online not to mention the majority of women through history worked at shops, on farms, etc. 3. Young women want a traditional life because they're tired of the rat race, they don't want to waste their life alone and overstressed with no time to spend with their hobbies and children. 4. Newsflash the 1950s isn't the end all be all of traditional living and frankly it was very progressive in comparison with the wives being in charge of the husbands money for the house budget. Just because women like the colorful aesthetic doesn't mean they want to live a 1950s life. 5. Who are you to say they will get bored of their life? Fuck you. How can you get bored with a job, hobbies, and children to take care of? I'm sooo sorry not every woman finds fun in going to a shady club. Traditional lifestyle is holding onto family oriented values, preservation of nature, local community, etc. it is more seen in religious folks but that's a personal preference to integrate religion into conservational values.
@KaiDecadence
@KaiDecadence Ай бұрын
@@Jane-ow7sr 1. That advice is easier said then done. Some men can put on a good mask to lure in a woman and then steadily reveal himself once the relationships is set. 2. I don't disagree that there are ways for a homebound person to make money. And I am aware that there have always been women in the workforce since well, forever. 3. It starts that way at first but if they are unlucky and choose the wrong man (which isn't always obvious right away), they can see themselves in a situation like the Ballerina Farm woman (just in a less lavish wealthy sense). 4. Again, I'm sure there were some 1950s homemaker/housewives that were not being abused but the other half is just as important to keep in mind. 5. I just go based on what I've heard from former housewives who are older and it can make sense why they feel that way. Again, if the woman is lucky and finds a guy who doesn't turn out to be a controlling monster then more power to them but far too often, I've heard latter. And yeah, I'm not listening to women in their 20s talk about how awesome they find their tradwife life at this time, I look at women in their late 30s to their 40s-50s+ and see how things have been going with that lifestyle and yeah, not all of them feel disenfranchised but again, it's because they got lucky and found a genuinely good guy but I've heard a lot more horror stories because the guy didn't turn out to be who they thought he was. Or if they lost their husband prematurely whether through death or the husband leaving her (especially in terms of sickness).

@@KaiDecadence thank you for absolutely ignoring every since point I had, truly a wonderful discussion repeating yourself 10 times in one comment. Also why exactly would you trust 30-50yo housewives who lived in a drastically different time period than the modern woman with Access to education, rights, and financial freedom? Each generation of women has it harder than the next to come. 30yos weren't living through the great depression as consciously as the ones who were dirt poor with zero money to their name and zero help from society so no I personally wouldn't trust people who decides to marry bad men and STICK with them for decades when they didn't have to the moment they could leave. Now I won't talk about the ballerina farm because frankly I don't know much about the situation aside from that's their private business hence we don't know the full story. Another thing, you're acting like marital abuse was half and half in the 50s when it wasn't because you certainly haven't shown that statistic. It's all just there to force women to stop existing outside of servitude of some kind or taking up space. Keeping us quiet and uncomfortable. And... speaking of religious women... tbh why so many people are turn to islam lemme tell u some of the point. 1. people who are lonely mostly convert because islam provides promising community (it's not true btw) how it does well no muslim have there own perspective of life they never needed to have one why because the perspective written on Quran were told to muslim since childhood and if a child question the one and best way to shut them up is by telling the child that Allah knows the best or it's Allah's secrete so a child who grew up without thinking about anything that is human on their own will totally rely on islam for their human feelings need for example being praised, being the good hence muslim will have limited feelings, 2. people convert to islam because islam provides a verrrryyy easy way to complete the need to be better than the others every human have that instinct whether we accept it or not. 3. muslims are good to converts because they feel validated they feel the right they feel they finally won. islam is a fantasy. 4. these converts say they explore quran Quran is written in a very manipulative way the start feels so good but once u are on the place where the trap is designed and settled they will capture u or these coverts don't even read it fully Quran clearly states abuse lie clearly without any filter and will declare it as important i had finish quran for like 3 times and everytime i was simply confuse

if you listen to the cults to conciousness podcast, high demand religions offer what humans crave naturally which is community, family, a social ingroup. in some ways its so much easier to just conform. even when i was listening to some episodes, i thought to myself that it doesnt sound as bad as you will always belong, you dont have to find these things on your own which is harder

If I made a video saying I paid a Cambodian woman 5 bucks an hour to clean my house I bet a lot of your audience would call me a entitled, lazy, misogynistic asshole... I'm not saying you are, I'm just guessing it would be received differently.

Five bucks an hour? I make WAY more than that shoving items into boxes all day. $23.45 and I'm no where near my final pay raise. I'd advise that poor hypothetical Cambodian woman to get her driver's license, get a warehouse job, and get PIT certified. 😂
