The aFe dry filter ( aFe Power Pro Dry S ) is an excellent alternative to disposable air filters. I chose this filter for my Hummer H3 due to the ability to wash and re-use the filter without any oils or chemicals. This thing is awesome! aFe Power makes amazing products and is a great solution to eliminate the risk of contaminating the mass airflow sensor with oil, which reportedly happens with K&N air filters.

I've been working on some other life projects and such, which has taken up time. I recently bought a Suburban for the increase in cargo space and I actually get better fuel economy with it. Like your videos. I started watching them since I’m in the market for an H3. Is it true the H3 does not have a cabin air filter? Wouldn’t make sense why they didn’t make them with cabin air filters. Do you know why?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper Жыл бұрын
Hello and welcome to the channel! I do believe what you've heard is true. Unfortunately, the cabin actual fills with dust quite quickly offroading in my experience. I may have read about a person trying to add a cabin filter but do not recall where or if it was for a different vehicle. If you decide to make one, let me know! I'm interesting in adding one to future H3's, as well. If manufacturers chose to exclude cabin filters, I imagine it was due to development budget. The H3 shares a decent amount of components with the Colorado/Canyon trucks, which are "lower-end" in the sense of receiving mainly basic attention from a luxury standpoint.

I appreciate your videos and I am learning lots. I have a question though….is it ok to upgrade my oil to to 10-W30 or will it cause harm to the engine?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper Жыл бұрын
I'm happy to know the videos have been helpful! I would not recommend straying from the factory recommendation of 5W-30. The bearings are designed for the recommended viscosity, meaning they lubricate metal on metal bearings with very small gaps for the oil to create a lubricating surface between the spinning crank shaft and the piston rods. Changing the viscosity of oil changes the oils ability to lubricate, which could cause damage. Would it hurt it? Likely not. Would it work better? Definitely not if the engine was designed for something different.

Thanks so much for making all this videos ; they are very helpful. Hopefully you or some one has an answer for my hummer problem. I have a 2006 Hummer H3 and the ignition switch fuse keeps blowing up has this happened to anyone? Thank so much.
@H3Humper
@H3Humper 2 жыл бұрын
I'm happy to know you have found the videos to be helpful! If a fuse keeps blowing, it is a strong indicator of a wire or circuit shorting out leading to an amperage higher than the fuse can handle (effectively blowing the fuse to protect it from bigger problems). I would verify the proper amperage fuse is in the fuse holder for the ignition system. After, I recommend inspecting wires to find freyed or bare wires, especially in the harness, including the ignition switch circuit. I would start in the cab and check for maybe spliced wiring or other aftermarket changes, which could be a spot where wiring issues can be introduced.

I see that you’ve done many repairs on your hummer. May you could help me out with an issue I have. I’ve recently replaced the water pump and thermostat but the temperature still raises between the 3/4 and 1/2 line while sitting and back down to 1/2 while driving. Any thoughts on what it could be?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Alison, the calibration of the temperature gauge on the H3's display higher than what one may expect in most vehicles. To verify your H3 is operating within normal temp. specifications, plug a scan tool in with ECT (engine coolant temp.) displayed on the scan tool. The range should vary between 198°F and 225°F per the factory service manual. The likely cause of the variation between drive and idle temperatures are forced flow through the radiator while driving. The clutch-style cooling fan mounted to the engine spins as fast as the engine is driving it. When the engine is at higher RPM's, the fan will be pulling more air through leading to increased cooling (in addition to the air forced through due to traveling at speed). At idle, the clutch-style fan does not pull much air through the radiator, which leads to an acceptable and normal increase in engine temperature. I converted my H3 to have a two-speed electric fan from an old Ford Taurus. This would be one way to strengthen the cooling capabilities of your H3 at lower RPM. Based on the information you provided, I believe all of your cooling system is working properly. I wish the gauge displayed a 1/4 less for its readings because it would seem more "normal."

Do you have a problem with oil in the resonator?
@H3Humper
@H3Humper Жыл бұрын
I did. I believe it is due to a clogged PCV system, causing oil vapor to be pulled into the resonator from the camshaft cover.
@chaverria
@chaverria Жыл бұрын
@@H3Humper How did you end up fixing this? I've dealt with oil in the resonator for years...but finally this past couple months...I was having all these codes and changed every sensor/plugs/coil packs ect.... and it turned out to be oil build up in the resonator throwing everything off.
@H3Humper
@H3Humper Жыл бұрын
Here's a quick description of the PCV system for a visual on how to address the issue: 1. air should be drawn from the resonator into the camshaft cover on the passenger side via the hose on the bottom of the resonator and continues to draw out of the camshaft cover and into the intake manifold via the line from the driver-side of camshaft cover. The fitting on the intake manifold can easily get clogged. In such a situation, the air no longer is pulled through the proper direction, and now flows from the the camshaft cover and up into the resonator. This causes oil to build up in the resonator as well as gunking up the throttle body and so on. The other points at which the system gets clogged is under the PCV hose nipples on the camshaft cover. I think the intended design was to prevent oil vapors from leaving the camshaft cover and entering the intake, but they get clogged and can cause this same issue. Once the clogs are addressed, the resonator would no longer take air in through the resonator-side pcv hose, completely eliminating oil entering into the resonator. An oil-catch-can can be installed between the driver's side camshaft cover and the PCV connection onto the intake manifold. This prevents oil vapor from being pulled into the intake manifold (helping prevent gunky valve build up).
