The media may present differing narratives, but the situation on the ground is more complex. Certain facts merit consideration. Firstly, many Afghans are opposed to the restrictions imposed by the Taliban, particularly those affecting women’s access to education and employment. At the same time, there is significant dissatisfaction with how Western influence has been imposed on Afghan society, often seen as undermining the core values of the country’s culture. Afghan women, for the most part, support modest dress and adherence to cultural and religious norms, rather than embracing Western-style social structures. The women represented in some conferences, many of whom are connected to political elites, do not necessarily reflect the broader views of Afghan society. A balanced solution for Afghanistan would be one that ensures equal rights to education, work, and participation in society for all Afghans, while respecting the country’s traditions. Just as Western nations emphasize preserving their cultural identity, Afghans also seek to safeguard their own culture and way of life within their country.

Of course. But basic human rights are actually not as culturally relative as some people want to think. - As a Westerner I would not impose my culture on other countries, just like I don´t want islamic traditions or sharia law in my country. But who is deciding in the society - it is usually not women. When answering polls etc. they are not free to say what they want, even anonymously. Structural oppression affects how people think and many delude themselves, in the muslim countries as well as here in the West. - So if some moslem women reject Western style of living it does not mean that they are happy with their alternatives.

That would be fine. The problem is when some people use religion to enslave other people. You can define whatever kind of culture and modesty you'd like to follow, but It has to be a choice. Human rights, equal rights, beyond gender or race, shouldn't be optional, NEVER ever. They're a given, and not a culture. It's wrong to associate human rights with western culture. Human rights should be apolitical and universal.

The problem of Afghanistan is not only the right to education and work for women, but the real and fundamental problem of Afghanistan is tribal rule, and it is the root of all other problems. Until this problem is solved once and for all and irreversibly, no other problem will be solved, and the suffering of the people of Afghanistan will never end. It will not be found and any other apparent solution will only be deceiving the people and repeating the repetitions and a conspiracy in the continuation of the conspiracies of the past two hundred and eighty years.

@williamblaxk7400 Taliban freed Afghanistan from western imperialists. If you don't like the Taliban well then westerners shouldn't have promoted Islamists because they hated communists so much. Communists weren't against women's rights 😉. There's even a Afghani women's rights activist from back in the 80s who got assassinated by western backed Islamists when the communists were in charge named Meena Keshwar Kamal & her husband Faiz Ahmad who was a socialist but who disagreed with soviet intervention 🤔

Most afghan women actually love Islam and their current government ruling by it, these afghan women are just a few that complain, but there's accounts from female US soldiers who were responsible for re education of afghan women that they are as stern on these traditions as Much as afghan men are, and that the afghan women felt sorry for the female soldiers because they were sent to the graveyard of empires to do this and havent had kids and not embracing motherhood....the only women who were impacted by these anti taliban narratives were ones residing in kabul and parts of bamyan, other then that rest of the afghan women are loyal to islam and their emirate.

@@k0DeTeArZ Stockholm syndrome. And besides, many don´t have even that. There are many documents of how women view things in Afghanistan. Many suffer oppression in silence. Even when the US were there not many women and girls had the opportunity to communicate with them. Many brave Afghan women rebel in their hearts and try to make their daily life as free as possible - even if they have islamic faith and maybe don´t have the conception of freedom in the same way as we have. Basic human rights are not as culturally relative as some people even here in the West would like to think. Underestimating Afghan women and victims of oppression in general is a way of making us feel better. But it also makes us cowards.

"we" didn't give up. The Afghans gave up. The west spent billions training their army and educating them on democracy and the moment the west left, their OWN troops walked away. The women can talk to their men and ask why they walked away. It's not the world's problem so go away

@cesium7907 I bet you'd have no problem with him speaking for Afghan women if he was supporting western values 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Don't forget it was western powers who originally empowered the Afghan Mujahadeen (many of whom went on to form the taliban). Those who are opposed to Islam extremists were defeated 3 times in the last 30+ years so stop complaining. Communists lost between(soviets & Afghan socaliats) 89-92 , Northern alliance (who were made up of more moderate Mujahadeen members) lost in 96 & then the western puppet government lost in 2021. Pro western Afghan women are exactly where they should be when their side lost the war which is anywhere but Afghan. There's an important lesson to be learnt about not trusting so called allies who promote Islamists because they hate Communists , was it all worth it?🤔🤷🏾‍♂️
