Money disappeared into pockets of corrupted officials, NGOs and military industrial complex. Fate of majority of Afghan common people has not changed during 20ys of occupation or nation building.

I'm not defending the occupation, but if there is a silver lining, it's that a generation of afghans in kabul and the northern regions recieved an education.

We has to face the reality there if we don’t want the country fall back into chaos. We spent 20 years there and created this mess leaving the Afghan people in limbo. Now we expect the Taliban behave as we wish? It’s not going to happen. We cut out their lifeline how can they bring order without the means?

Given the statistics-British caught three wars starting from 1839, the Soviets for ten years and the US allies for 20 years. Mr Raad, did you ever counted the Afghan human lives lost?

The best way is Afghanistan people have to cooperate with the Taliban and live it to the Taliban to decide whether they like it or not just live with the reality because Afghanistan doesn't have a say any more

Hi Keven - Hello distinguished panel - thank you for your time. This is all very overwhelming and worrying, but how do I, as an Australian citizen (living in a foreign country - Switzerland) provide support ... both to the people of Afghanistan .. and to the international community?

Regardless which government's systems will be established down the roads..The Humanitarians Effort's Assistant should be proceed forwards to thousands of whom got caught in between the transitional stages which could take sometimes for progress of negotiations to completely done ..However, people still require basic needs to survive..Hopefully, the Asian's Societies can start the campaign of donations for Afghanistan's peoples and posted the websites for people's world wide to contact..It would be 👌..😉😊..

Her assessment of Afghan military sounds reasonable.

The post game assessments are crucial, at least for the record, but 20 years of effort just evaporated and the question is now what? How does one preserve these institutions when only a small minority will stand tall while the majority covers, hides for dear life?

This panel, other panels discuss Afghanistan as though there are only two actors at play: Taliban and U.S.. Afghans are mentioned as though they are observers to this event. And culpability falls squarely on U.S., it's as though there was no elected Afghan government albeit funded chiefly by U.S.

Great talk. I did not know the US did so much to turn that terrorist hot spot into something that was trying to be a normal 21st century nation. It is very sad to see the leadership corruption and how a country of millions can be undone by some 70 thousand idiots with guns ( no comparison to the people of America in the war of Independence). Lets hope we can make sure no terrorist camps can be set up to do the US harm again. As far as a comparison to Taiwan defeating an invasion by China, I will bet Taiwan will not go quietly into the dark and the US will get involved in a profound way. The US and others that deem China's market takes second fiddle to saving the island will prevail.

U.S. and allies will pony up humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people but it isn't likely to continue beyond a few years and in declining sums given the refugee support that will be required to fund transitions abroad n accommodations for neighboring countries.

Very informative discussion. I can't believe this, but with the of isisk in afghanistan around 2016 and all the other warlords and factions, it seems like the taliban are the best option for the majority of the country. I hope that the former northern alliance strong holds in the north are provided with some level of autonomy. It's not like the taliban central government will have much of any services to offer, if all they offer the minorities in the north is harrassment and abuse, they won't be around in those areas for long.
