Aflac’s new short film sheds light on the wealth and health gaps that exist across communities. In the film, much like in real life, the Aflac Duck is there to help the family through their recovery.

Everyone knows about sickle cell and because you have it, doesn’t make you a warrior.
@Mspurpleg2 жыл бұрын
@@blackerpanther3329 first of all. Everyone doesn’t know about sickle cell. Read the thread, there are people in my family that don’t even know what it is, they just know that I am always in and out of the hospital. You’re right though, just having it doesn’t make me a warrior. The fight for my life is what makes me a warrior. Not that I owe you any explanation as to why I am a warrior. I have had more surgeries than I can count, has my first crisis at 3 months old, was told I wasn’t going to live past the age of 5 etc. I have survived 3 life threatening complications due to the sickle cell, one time even to the point where everyone was told to say their goodbyes. I fight everyday to stay alive. WAD!!

As someone born with Sickle Cell Disease, I completely understand what that father was going through. I never thought of how it might be to have a child who would have to see me suffer through the illness. Thanks for sharing that perspective and bringing more recognition to an illness that affects approx. 100,000 Americans, 1 in 365 African Americans, 1 in 16,300 Hispanic-Americans, and gets less attention than cystic fibrosis yet affects more people.

@Joi Moss I too have Sickle Cell and it's hard going through this illness everyday but we fight to live our lives. I don't have children because I know it hurts me for them to see and ask me all the time what's wrong with mom?
@joimoss65942 жыл бұрын
@@CareyB591 Yeah...I still want to have kids though. I am getting a spouse first however so when I am hospitalized, like i just was, my child would be able to have their other parent to comfort them and keep them preoccupied. My little cousins use to visit me in the hospital all the time and just being able to be with me made them happy, so if you want to have children, I say go for it, but do be careful you don't have a spouse with the trait or your child would be 50% to get it. Stay strong warrior!!

This story made me cry. Having an older daughter who passed away from complications due to Sickle Cell and a grandson currently in hospital suffering from an accused chest pain crisis, it hit home. When my daughter was little, Sickle Cell was so rarely in the spotlight so every time I see it being focused on, I rejoice.

It was a very sweet 🎥 I'm guessing while the Dad was out of work Aflac paid the bills. I use to have Colonel health insurance and they gave me a check for six months which was just enough to pay my important bills and keep afloat until I got back on my feet and recovered from my back injury. That was years ago. I need to look into getting this type of insurance again for my husband and I because anything can happen. I wonder if they cover getting sick 😷 from the rona.

Speechless I am. the music, the imagery, the detail from the daughters HBCU letterman jacket, to the Mom reviewing the medical cost just took my breath away. I held my thoughts and found myself holding back a tear as the AFLAC duck filled in the Gap to provide the little girl and the Mom, comfort, calm, reassurance and complete JOY during a time of uncertainty. Once dad had been released and returned home to resume as head of the household and provider the AFLAC duck no longer was needed. Great assurance in knowing though, AFLAC cares and connected with the humanity of the needs of the family. Spectacular representation, the assignment had been completed. What a phenomenal job.
