The great African writer Chimamanda Adichie talked about *_the dangers of a single story._* Sadly, Buju Banton seems to have a single story of Africa. A story of troubles and struggles. Africa is more than struggles. In addition to our struggles, there are so many other stories of Africa. Stories of perseverance, joy, laughter, happiness, love, success, wealth and also *_Fuckry_*_ (according to Banton)._ Our music reflects all these different facets of our lives. *_So, can someone please tell Buju Banton that Africa is much more than our political struggles_*

Alot of people laugh at me if I say I believe I will one day change nigeria and Africa at large, but I think with faith one can move a mountain, I therefore targeted some of my dreams as key to others, i beg you to please help me from you or any other nigerians that can help me with travelling fees to come to england or anyother football cherishing countries to train in their academies and gain better chance to become a footballer and achieve my childhood dreams, please help me; GOD the most high gats your back too. First off, happy belated birthday 🎉, many more happy returns of the day. God bless you and your new age. Isn’t it interesting how suddenly Afrobeats is trending, and now some people can’t seem to handle it? They claim our music lacks substance and doesn’t uplift Africa. Yet here we are, making history: our artists are selling out stadiums and arenas worldwide, winning Grammys, and getting featured in the NBA all stars. Some of our artists even have streets named after them in America! American artists are now eager to collaborate with us, and even Obama has our artists on his Playlist every year. Our songs play on American radio stations as if they were native to the culture. We’re featured in major Hollywood movies like *Coming to America*, and more and people around the world are singing along in our native languages, embracing the rich cultural influence Afrobeats brings. But sure, go ahead and claim our music doesn’t carry messages or uplift Africa. Perhaps it’s not just uplifting Africa but the entire globe. The undeniable impact of Afrobeats has shaken the world, and the evidence is clear. But naturally, with success comes jealousy. Some people can’t help but feel envious when they’re no longer the center of attention. Artists like Buju and others seem to be consumed by envy and bitterness instead of celebrating this global achievement for us and Africa they choose envy. It’s worth remembering that reggae and dancehall thrived largely due to the support of African audiences. But if you keep hating, don’t be surprised when we turn our backs and watch the genre fade away. He who god has blessed no man can curse. As for Afrobeats, you haven’t seen anything yet. Keep hating while we continue to soar. Afrobeats to the world-whether you like it or not, the movement is unstoppable. Hug a transformer if you must..... 9ja 4 lyf

Buju got a point, but the context he used to say it was the problem. I Know artist got the voice to potray the happenings in africa and share love. But maan Buju those who had conscience music died poor and couldn't even have anything to pass down their generations. Aprt from their legendary, Burna boy low key had sang about the consciences of his country and the foundational faults and where we got wrong. Guess what? That song didnt even make his greatest song of all times and dont even have the hit status. So my man same way buju had your time and moved away from conscience music to party play and airwaves. Trust me that money you made from it made you good good now

Not surprised that again DJ Pakorich will disagree with Buju Banton without in-depth analysis of the statement, just to please his Nigerian subscribers who feel attacked. Reggae was and is still far more uplifting and spiritual than Afrobeats to the global black issues. Afrobeats lacks positive messages and barely talks about issues affecting the youth of Africa, who are the major listeners. Even Burna Boy said something similar last year and took heat for saying that. Fela was popular worldwide not solely because of his Afrobeat, but because he talked politics and even got into trouble for that. Bob Marley and other great reggae stars had many uplifting songs about the black struggles and liberation from oppression and colonization. Afrobeats needs to improve the lyrics and promote Africa and give hope to the youth. But I would finally add that there’s a little jealousy from Buju. Dancehall and reggae are not as popular.

Buju banton is talking rubbish! The truth is, afrobeats it's a more than a flame that can't go out. It is a heat that is emitting from Nigeria and Africa that cannot be stop at the moment. This life is all about phases. When ragamuffin music was reigning all over the world taking it out of hip-hop and ragga music was all about sex without lifting the struggles of the Caribbean but, it uplifted the sober soul of the Caribbean and you didn't see anything bad in ragga muffin music? You guys or haters of afrobeats should leave afrobeats alone while it lasts and the real people keep enjoying it. One love afrobeats straight outta NAIJA

He is just not well informed. He only knows about the Nigerian top players but we have a handful that are afrobeats that are inspirational & revolutionary but obviously it is within the Nigerian space e.g musicians like Idris Abdulkarim, Tuface, African China, late Sound Sultan and (others I have forgoten their names). We have revolutionary musicians but they are not widely known outside Nigeria.

What's his problem with Afrobeat..? Read about the originator of Afrobeat (Fela Anikulapokuti) to know what he was all about with his music.. No other musicians has faced court charges or imprisonment like Fela. His mother Funmi was thrown down from the storey, all because of his activism through music. All he did with his music was instrumental at that time by being a pin in the necks of our political leaders but did he succeed in reshaping them..? NO! It's the same testimony with Reggae Artist/Music upon all their messages, because am a big fan of Reggae beat myself. So, don't blame anyone that focus on entertaining audience rather than pursuing/continuing a particular struggle that has never yielded any result as far as Africa or black nations is concerned. Music is also a business and, Nigerians understand the business part of it than any other black nations. Take it or leave it..👌

There are other genres in Africa you have option to listen. Genres doesn't have to be from outside the continent to be accepted. He mentioned Fela and the other fir being conscious. The question is how many people were listening to Fela and others. He mentioned? Those He mentioned were not as known all over like Davido or Burna boy. Buju Barton is reacting due to success Afrobeats is receiving. Pure jealousy, the brother is reflecting. Pure bitterness. Every arts has its period, this Afrobeats period.
