Sammie, for a complete bank misfire involving multiple coil packs and injectors but not the other bank theres only two common denominators. Most likely it is the O2 sensors. They are the preheat type with a preheat fuse. O2 sensors and cats are the only things that are involved in fuel trim by bank. For all bank cylinders to misfire you likely have a lean condition caused by the O2 sensor reading rich when it's not. Replace the O2 sensors for bank 2 I'm assuming and your problem will be solved. You're too close to walk away because of a bad oxygen sensor. It always seems to be bank 2 sensors that cause total bank misfire.

He’s already experienced in sourcing used parts, why not a used engine? The problem with Range Rovers is all the engine parts are prioritary from the manufacturer. Aftermarket companies are not allowed to make parts for them. Each gasket or any part is very expensive. You can’t go to auto zone and buy parts like you can on other cars. ian burit really? I know people, who had aRR sport 2.7 diesel. One of the worst engines ever made! The same engine & the same problems as Jaguar, Citroen and Peugeot. These engine have serious problems with main bearings and rod bearings, sometimes at 30000 mls. And they are extremely expensive to fix.

It’s depressing and a kick to the gut, when working on a project for so long and it never works. However, it takes a lot of character to admit defeat on it and so stop throwing money at it. Good on you!

I would enjoy the Bmw build much more than the Range Rover. Im glad you got rid of the problem project though! Focus on bigger and better things! The R8 was really cool seeing you push yourself to finish while the Range Rover just isn't worth your time imo.

As my dad calls it, “the ghost in the machine”. Sometimes a car will just get a issue that it just cant be diagnosed and is a one off issue to your car. Yes, anything can be found and fixed but most people wont fiddle with it for days and if you dont do the work yourself your paying a mechanic. Maybe $100 fix or rigged up or maybe 80 shop hours totaling 25k who the hell knows.
@Scotty_in_Ohio4 жыл бұрын
I always believed that "it ran fine at some point / to begin with - it should run fine again" As I've gotten older I've learned to question that - perhaps it NEVER ran well to begin with - it may have always been in the shop.... The same is with computers - I used to repair PC's in the 90's some computers just do not want to be repaired....

Im in the UK. I think i know what the problem is... I have came across a fault like this before on a couple of them. It is ether oil or water in the engine loom delaying the sensor ping from or to the coil packs on the one side. I have seen oil in the ECU that has run inside the wire sheathing. Which created all sorts of problems. The wiring looms are different lengths for ether bank of four. The speed of information traveling from the flywheel TDC pickup is split in two to the ECU. The cam sensors are split also. If any corrosion or any foreign objects delay by a millisecond...... Like your drive in sport mode. The oil or water in the loom heats up and reduces the signal. I hate them with a passion. I wont ever work on one again. I bet a new engine loom would fix it. Cheers

@@EnglishTurbines Best long time ago perkins engine swap i saw was a Banger racers road car had a big perkins in a MK10 jag with a reputed two overdrives, it never revved fast but went quick enough..My now gone early 3 door Landy with its 200 DTi was a dream, had 2 batteries under the bonnet linked, 12 volt but huge AMPS, always started 99% without heater plugs, and I ran it on derv plus new fresh cooking oil, whatever best deal i could get plus a good splash of unleaded.. One day in a world of my own at the fuel station I stopped the pump at £20, looked, then said sh1t it was unleaded, so stuck another £20 of derv in, drove to Tescos, bought £20 of new cooking oil, stuck that in, ran exceptional well for hundreds of miles on that mix plus it cleaned out the system..On 50/50 plus a splash it ran much quieter, went just as well, but smelled like a chip shop going down the road - happy days, love my chips (for Americans, in the UK chips are big type of fried potatoes bigger and thicker than fries) Sadly sold on my factory black 3 door after 10 years, with its period silver/ grey factory side decals to a collector living some miles away, had 240.000 miles NOT KM on the clock ran like clockwork, and he phoned me about 5 hours later when he got home/ stopping for dinner on the way home, so I was eager to hear what he said - Hi he said, I got a barn full of early Landies and yours is the best one i have ever driven, thank you.. Indeed it did drive very well, but I am disabled and found the clutch hard work more so in traffic, gutted but I have to drive Autos now. Currently got a freelander 1 TD4 HSE version, looks lost under my DISCO sized car Port, but thats the way it is.. Be grateful i`m still alive and active to a point but am 72 now..

A new engine could’ve been an option when you started to have difficulty with the current engine, but I suppose that would’ve been the easy way out and wouldn’t make for much good content that would last
