Tinker Bell still does that in the movie, though. Hell, the mermaids admit to trying to drown Wendy, and when Wendy tries to defend herself, Peter physically and verbally punishes her before going to save another woman who loves him and ignoring Wendy. Ok now do one on how children's cartoons today are teaching kids that adults are completely incompetent. Have you seen an educational kids show where the parents or adults in general roles of authority who aren't fumbling idiots who are screwing up and need to be saved by children? Seriously if I was a child growing up watching these things I would have the hardest time trusting or relying on adults for help with anything. To a degree I get it and agree that parents don't have all the right answers or make all the right decisions all the time. And the old ways of the pre 90's where kids were taught that adults decisions are absolute and unquestionable actually put children into harms way more than people admit. There has to be a middle ground on this that teaches kids that parents don't always know what's best but they have their reasons and they will be there for them when shit gets bad and they aren't on their own.
@rubiesncreme7 жыл бұрын
Uh, I thought a big part of "Hook" was that, viewed from an adult perspective, all the things you thought were so scary as a child--for instance, *being* an adult--aren't really as bad, and you just need to face it down. Hence the over-the-top Hook performance: he's not so menacing now, he's just kind of pathetic and annoying.
@Monkeyman30007 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I wish they made a movie or tv show where they showed it was smart to actually listen to our parents. I mean our parents for the most part understand you on a deeper level, you could probably learn at least something from them about life. But most movies glorify the idea that kids are always smarter than their parents. Is this just me?

For me that's To Kill a Mockingbird. Atticus doesn't do a lot of direct parenting on screen but is every scene it's clear that he's a wise adult and the children are children. The Disney Pinocchio is sort of that except Pinocchio's father isn't in the film that much. The parents in the incredibles are like that, adults trying and failing to keep the kids out of trouble but always supportive. In Cheaper by the Dozen the kids are a little neglected because the parents are pulled in so many directions, but on the whole they're good parents who try to keep their kids safe and respectful by giving reasonable rules and things are better when the kids listen. Edward Scissorhands has very very supportive foster(?) parents who take him in and keep him safe. There's a few if you look.

The thing people don't understand when they talk about how 'being an adult sucks' is that, yes it does, but it doesn't suck more than any other stage in your life. There's this assumption that the older you are the worse life gets- but by that logic being a toddler would be the best stage of all and being a toddler was terrible. Sure, you didn't have to cope with jobs, relationships, responsibilities or anything like that- but your pain threshold was so low that just tripping over could make you starts crying out in pain and a simple trip to the shops was so stressful that you'd often end up having a complete emotional meltdown, screaming and rolling around on the floor. When responsibility and work get you down, just thank God you've finally moved past the stage of your life where people could literally trip over you.
