I recently found out someone I love dearly had to use our local food bank because he didn’t want family to help him. I am eternally grateful that we have food banks and other resources for anyone who needs a helping hand.

As a former food bank client I thank you for your donations. Fun story: Once I got a package of organ meat what isn't really considered fit for human consumption in my country. So I handed it out to a couple of neighbours with dogs. And one of those dogs, a pitbull, still sees me as her favourite aunt. :D

Fantastic job. My mum who's almost 82 just paid for her drive and patio to be cleaned and repointed. My son and I are going to do the back patio this weekend to save her money. I'm tired already just thinking of it and I'm 'only' 55. Definitely, I donate once a quarter to a local charity that serves truly needy families and children. They vet everyone before they start giving food, clothing, school supplies, etc to them. It's a great feeling, to me at least, helping out others like this.

Foodbanks are a fantastic way to help your community! They take money donations (needed for storage rooms etc.) and of course material donations (food et all.). Before you go and shop items, please, ask the foodbank what they need! It isn't helpful when everybody buys nudels, but nobody brings the tomatosauce ... And a small heartfelt suggestion: When you donate, remember the children! To them, some jam/marmelade is a treasure on it's own ... Just a thought.

Such a wonderful thing to do. In our family we don’t do sibling birthday gifts anymore, instead we donate to our local food bank. Our local food bank has an app which tells you what they are running low on, you can click on the items to let them know you’ve donated some so they know they have some coming in.

This is fantastic. We do the £5 food bank challenge with our scouts. The kids go in teams; we give them £5 and a list of items the food bank needs, they then have to get as much as possible with that £5. There are normally about 6 teams of about 5-6 kids. and most parents also donate a few quid each and the adults team do a bigger shop with that to top it up. its a good lesson for the kids to learn budgets, and also just how much shopping does actually cost, while also giving back to our local community. Weirdly we had issue with sainsburys when we did it. they were upset that 2 teams of 6 kids (12 total) who were supervised by adults the entire time they were in the shop. I had cleared it with a Manager prior, but it was a different manger on duty that night who wasn't happy with the idea. The team that went to Aldi however, had a much better experience. The manager there thought it was wonderful to see kids buying food for a foodbank, and working out the most cost effective way to get the most. they also donated a few items for us to add in. :) Keep up the Good work Ben!

I hope somebody makes it clear to ASDA that they missed a golden opportunity of free publicity to show how much they love to help the community - without even having to do anything towards it themselves. I always shop with Sainsbury's, and I'm definitely going to continue to do so, especially after seeing how one of the members of staff was so helpful in checking everything out for you. I think it is terrible that we live in such times that food banks have become a vital lifeline to so many people who live below the breadline (I could have done with access to one when I was a single parent with two small boys back in the 1980s), but it is heartening to see that there are still people who are willing to volunteer to put in a bit of work and food items, to give them a helping hand.
