I'm a PTA student & just started a clinical rotation in a SNF & about 1/2 are recovering from stroke. They're all elderly & have problems with gait, posture & transfers. I'm very pleased to see that you have so many videos here I can refer to. I also appreciate the hints & reminders for how to modify for patient's level of mobility &/or strength. This channel has become my favorite resource to help me understand how to apply everything I've been studying for the past several months. I'm going to suggest your channel to my program & clinical director for future students at my school to use as a study tool. It's difficult to fully understand the impact of various types of therapy when you only study with healthy bodies (classmates) and the way the two of you explain things make the info easy to absorb and remember. Thanks for your efforts & keep up your valuable work.

My dad is currently in the hospital now. We aren't sure if he had a seizure, stroke but they flew him to a hospital. Because of Covid-19 we aren't able to go in and it's been more than an hour and they haven't given us any updates. I pray that he is doing okay, he's never had seizures or strokes before. His mother had heat stroke and lost all memory, I truly hope it does not happen to him. Praying he will get better very soon.

For stroke survivors. The affected leg is not about weakness the muscles are all there and are ok . It's the brain not sending signals to the muscles in the leg to do its job to move etc.
@fitzfranklin90234 жыл бұрын
So what then should the victim do?
@Strolchie493 жыл бұрын
this might be so, but if the exercise is done the leg, arm or limb is sending a signal to the brain to accept the challenge and the brain will work together with the muscles, my opinion that is
@abundanthealthservices3 жыл бұрын
Not always in a lot of cases if not most it’s the weakness that set in post stroke so it’s not that black and white, you have to always consider the nuance of what they’re talking about this has helped me tremendously as a former atc helping friends of mine family members

jebr28 My instructor's have given me similar advice & I have noticed that it does help. Also, getting them to keep eyes fixed in the direction the wish to move just beyond the target helps guide their movement. Combined with humor to make unpleasant therapy more tolerable & pass time when it feels like it's taking forever facilitates cooperation, inspires patient to stick with it & maximizes results. (Not to mention create a great relationship with our patient's. - ( Humor is still often the best medicine 😉 )

Thank you for all your videos. I had a stroke 2 years ago, been using my exercise bike with live and on demand classes for cardio and just bought a Pilates Power Gym. I am going out of town to visit my son but what exercises can I do in bed to strengthen my legs and back while I'm away. I can't bring any exercise bands since I am flying with a tiny suitcase. I also hurt my shoulder months ago while using an ab rolling machine so have limited movement or reach for my shoulder. Still can't sleep on my right side so need some stretching exercises for that too. Thank you!!

I'm only 4 years out and battling with toes curling as well. My doctor tried xeomin shots in my leg and arm muscles it works better for my leg and it only worked twice for my hand ☹️ my toes still curl when I'm not paying attention to how I'm walking. Me and big crowds don't mix well because it's hard for me to multitask [I had a car wreck which resulted in a Complete Brain Shearing (Diffused Axonal Injury) second day into recovery I had my stroke during a surgery] I only recall it due to my health record as I was in an 11 day medically induced comma and can remember things a week prior to my wreck and things a month post. Was released due to insurance 2 months and 6 days post.. Sorry this ended up so long lol
