This is so great - I'm in Lesson 19 of Integrated Chinese (much of which is HSK 3 vocab) and sure enough, I know all the Chinese in her sentences and none of the English words. I really feel learning Chinese by correct sentence word order is a big breakthrough for me in learning Chines as this video points out. English translations are only giving me the gist of what's being said but doesn't help much for understanding what I'm hearing on the audio track and also doesn't help me know what I'm even saying!. For example: 3.我暑假打算回北京去看 父母。 3. Wǒ shǔjià dǎsuàn huí běijīng qù kàn fùmǔ. 3. I plan to go back to Beijing to see my parents during the summer vacation. The English only gives me a gist of what is being said. But it doesn't help me at all in understanding what I'm hearing or knowing what I'm saying. But now look: 3. Wǒ / shǔjià / dǎsuàn / huí běijīng / qù / kàn fùmǔ. I / summer vacation / plan / return Beijing / go / see parents NOW I know exactly what I'm hearing and I can easily turn my head away from the text, repeat it, AND know what I just said. All because I now have the sentence structure correctly in place.

I learnt a few words working in a hospital as many nurse's were Chinese. It helped me a lot visiting Harbin and Mohe in the winter. The Chinese were friendly to me.

@@Adam-yu5zj I have no idea xd. We don't know when the test will be, because it is usually in person, but bc of the pandemic we can't be in person so we have no clue. Other than that, I'm basically just studying my regular Mandarin book and we received a list of vocabulary. Though I would get a hsk preparation book if I could. The test consists of 2 parts I believe, listening and reading I think. The test is one hour long. And I think it's scored over 200, you can pass with 120, but 180+ would be the best. Hope I helped! >:D

THANK YOU!!!! I have learned 7 languages and always thought about language learning as more like a puzzle than "learning". I have ALWAYS held on fast to the EXACT same rules you described here: learn the LOGIC of the language, not the individual words, and then, sentence forming is a PUZZLE. This is what I tell everyone who I help to learn any language, first and foremost. You are literally the first language teacher I've met IRL or seen on KZbin who says these exact same things. Thank you for showing others that this is a valid AND EASY method to learn/use a language (it is universally true not only to Chinese, but any other language). 我觉得很多的学生总该明白这一个规定，你不应该学习很多的词，你一来应该明白你学习的语言的逻辑。 (sorry if my Chinese itn't perfect, I had to use dictionary to find some words, as I'm still kind of a beginner ^^")

Yea! I've been doing this! I've actually picked up this habit from the boygroup, "WayV". When I watch their vids I realized that sometimes when they make sentences in chinese and don't know the chinese word for something they usually complete the sentence/ fill in whatever word (grammatically correct) that they don't know, with english, then ask other members what's the word in chinese. Then I read that, that's a good way to learn.

Happy for any feedback. 1:59 1. 我觉得success需要多个 情况。但最重要的情况是你应该认真习惯。在那个情况下你会一边学习新认识一边有多钱。 2. 我觉得漂亮的女人是一边不太胖一边有美的眼睛。我也觉得女人和男人都应该有好习惯。 3. 西方的国家有individualism比亚洲的collectivist. 我觉得西方的情况是最好，但我也觉得亚洲的情况也有好的习惯。每个人应该认真辛苦了，所以他们的圣哈越来越好。 4. 在英国大学菲菲常常贵，大学1年多7000英镑，所以在毕业的时候你给多21000英镑。但在毕业的时候多个人不可以找工作。 5. meditation是认真好的习惯。我两个年上开始meditation，然后我的身体还不错了。我觉得你也应该做。 6. 我觉得国家需要有death penalty！但是在很少的情况death penalty是合适。如果别人做heinous murder了 那个情况是合适。

Wow this is actually so helpful, I've been learning Chinese for a hot minute and even passed HSK 6 but I barely speak, like I get so hard on myself for not being perfect that I become too shy to speak, and sometimes stutter, but I found that when I'm just randomly speaking Chinese comfortably english words pop up here and there but for the most part it is much smoother. Maybe I should try this more and eventually I will get the level and confidence of speaking fully in Chinese! 谢谢老师！

As a student of Japanese, I can say it works in a pretty similar way! With "blocks" of descriptions going before the nouns, along with adjectives and such. For example: "赤い服を着た | 男が | 湖に落ちた" = The man (男) wearing red clothing (赤い服を着た) fell into a lake (湖に落ちた). I like to think of them as subordinate sentences!

Great video! Ive found that listening to native speakers helped my grammar the most. Just like a native english speaker can just know when a phrase sounds wrong because theyve heard it thousamds of times, chinese learners can build the same ability through listening.

Be glad if your language structure is fixed most of the time. My native language Czech consists of more exceptions than rules. Almost every rule has at least one if not more exceptions. But it is a beautiful and rich language, much richer than English I'd say and I am glad I was growing up learning it.

In the sentence about where to work, I did not think about "qu". I was looking to use "zai" since the sentence is talking about a place. But that did not seem to work. To think of "qu" I would have needed the English to read "I want to go to work in a city near my home." This for me is the problem... there are these "hidden" concepts that operate in Chinese that do not always operate in English, even if sometime they can. But other times they don't function in English. This also point to another difference. "To work" is in the infinitive form (as is "to go"). Sometimes, the infinitive can function in English as a noun (in the sentence it could be replaced by "a job"). Sometimes the infinitive functions as a verb (as it does if I add "to go"). So at first I was reading "to work" as a verb, so it could not be the object. This problem causes any conversation to break down as I try to work out the correct sentence structure in Chinese. In other words, this was a difficult sentence to say correctly.

In English you can understand resultative compliments using prepositions and adjectives. I ate it ALL UP I listened UP GOOD I heard it ALL THROUGH These are probably vestiges of Saxon. Resultative compliments still exist explicitly in German.

@@michaelfitchett9730 While it's not correct grammar it is nonetheless part of the vernacular in other words what really counts. you may have noticed? there is no central authority which determines what is or is not proper grammar in English. Lots of grammar nazis try to suppress the very idea of separable verbs in English -- because, knowingly or not, they wish to impose Latin and French grammar on the surviving Saxon language. I am not into linguistic prescriptivism, you clearly are, but you won't get far among serious linguists or translators with your prescriptivism.

I think I will buy your mini course, it looks pretty good. I'll try the 6 questions. I didn't look up any words I don't know. (it was very tempting though because I like learning new words, haha). Your example sentence is great, because it walks you through the steps of Chinese logic, but English logic is a little different. In English, we would say, I don't want to work in a city that's too far from my house. We wouldn't say near. We would say too far. We wouldn't say I want, but we'd say, I don't want. Or we simple say, I don't want to work at a company that's too far from my house.
