I have to agree with one of the comments that part of the Khan success is Sal's style and enthusiasm. I am EXTREMELY grateful to him for helping my kids. Mostly, it has helped me help my kids. When they ask me a homework question I haven't heard in 30 years, I go straight to Khan, and suddenly I'm an expert. It's been wonderful.

Sal is true definition of genius for me. I don't see a genius in someone who understands things in split-second. It's about how you use that brainpower to create something big, something huge, something that influences and changes whole world. Thank you, Khan.

He will be the one who will be responsible for the future inventions!!.. He deserves a nobel prize more than any of the physicists ,mathematicians or doctors who generally work for their selfish interests or work because they are funded to work on those projects. . He should be honored and I hope he is never forgotten for what he has done for the children of the world. Not only children but all the citizens too!.. Anyone can learn anything for free!

It's really good to hear Salman telling the same story now that I heard him tell a couple years ago, but now with the experience of that much more time of creating and having people use his videos and his tracking software. Thanks immensely, Salman, for pushing these ideas of yours forward!

It is people like this that will reform formal education for the better and evolve it to fit our current society. Specialized learning according to a students abilities and not predetermined information each one has to memorize.

I was helping people on Yahoo Answers but what I found was that people were there so others would do their homework for them, it was what I consider mindless helping. So I started just giving people little hints that would help them get over some difficult areas in their math and science questions but I was ignored, unless no one did the problem for them. The brain is like a muscle, if it doesn't have to work it gets weak, and I believe Khan Academy works a person's brain.

I agree that our leaders,or both sides of the aisle, should explain the details of their ideas in 10 to 15 minute "KHAN-TYPE" video presentations so the citizens can understand the issues and the proposed policies to resolve our complex problems...

Can I go back to high school? The more I listen to the education experience Sal describes, the more pissed I get about the terrible un-ducation I was pushed through. I was a special needs kid (Tourette's, OCD, ADD), and my entire special ed experience was focused on figuring out how to shoehorn me into the Prussian model. I'm 24 now, no college but working a decent job, and I'm just beginning to come to understand the harm that was done to me by my failed education.

it was insinuated in the video by Sal, non-profits have a 'mission' that is not accumulation of fiat or other capital at cost of everything else. As a narrow scope base that is the big difference.

You look funny!! but still a good face to see in these videos :P One thing I love about Khan Academy so deeply is that i have registered for a Linear Algebra course in college for the 2nd semester, and since I registered for 4 different Math courses on the same semester, I can (with fun and amusement) study Linear Algebra to reduce the pressure and get me better grades.. I cannot emphasize how grateful I am of your work.. Thank you very very much!!

When you were asked about the price of a physical KA-school, you slightly skipped the answer to the question. Of course you said that currently, schools spend money extremely ineffectively, but you did not give a guesstimated price-tag to your own school. I really love the idea of a KA-school or maybe even a KA-school-chain and I'd love to hear more details on what you are brainstorming around that concept for now.

I agree. I think education should be more career oriented earlier than college, so that students can see how their educations apply to their potential careers. By the 8th grade I knew I was going into business or law, and I did both. I could have learned finance in high school and could have fit all of my high school courses by going to class in the summer.

I am all for making school more productive. Twelve or thirteen years is a lot of time to spend only to transition to an entirely unrelated cooperative education to learn a basic craft or trade. School only served for learning limited interpersonal relationship skills. School was almost as good as a total waste. If it wasn't for a few good Science and English teachers, I would have been totally lost.

The thing often with teachers is that they are very pedantic in the way they see the world. It makes them lose the flow of everything, and they can rarely make real change in themselves. I was trying to teach a song on the guitar to a teacher, and she had a really hard time just going on with it, and she spent a lot of time frustrated about particular ways of strumming etc. Khan teaches in a way that's accurate, and he leaves room for imagination, and personality.
