I saw this stage show too. The ad libs were scripted because the same thing happened when I saw them, but it didn't make it any less wonderful. They were genius because they were so in tune with their audience. Rik was something special and I miss him so much.

"That was the best Reg Varney I've ever seen" refering to Rik saying "ooooo Miss Jones". Reg Varney was the main character in the 60's/70's sitcom called 'On The Buses' The "Miss Jones" line was used by Leonard Rossiter who played a landlord called Rigsby from the 70's sitcom 'Rising Damp'. Getting the shows and actors mixed up was the joke.

They did 5 tour shows, Bottom Live, The Big Number Two Tour, Hooligan's Island, An Arse Oddity and Weapons Grade Y-Fronts Tour. The first in 1993 and the last in 2003.

I love the live stage shows more than the actual tv series. So funny, 4th wall breaking with hilarious (but reportedly scripted) bloopers that elevates the whole thing. Pure genius.

Confirm these are scripted, this is the Southampton show, I saw them live in Torquay with the same 'breaks in character'. It doesn't bother me though, it was amazing to watch live and at the time it made the show even better.

Honestly the plays were better than the show at times, they always let the audience know when they screwed up, because they'd spend minutes ripping into eachother over each blunder.

It was preformed in Southampton theatre as part of the Bottom live tour in 1993. It had nothing to do with the series.

Another tid bit of information is that the name of the main theatre in Southampton is called the mayflower. Which takes its name from the ship called the mayflower which took the pilgrim fathers to America which started its voyage from Southampton.

for my 15th birthday my mum got me tickets to bottom live, Holligans Island! to see them right there in front of me was incredible! after so many hours watching the VHS boxsets, I'm now 36 and love Bottom as much as ever!

Have you seen the Japanese Bunker scene from Bottom? It's the absolute most hysterical scene! Actually all the Bottom stuff is golden. Oh, and Adrian Edmondson's wife is Jennifer Saunders, who was 1/2 of French and Saunders comedy team. She created Absolutely Fabulous another great British comedy!

I miss Rick mayall, he was a massive part of my life growing up from Young ones, bottom, drop dead Fred, Guest House Paradiso and the live bottom series, an absolute legend of British comedy and didn't get the recognition he deserved really. R.I.P Rick Mayall. A stalwart of British comedy.

This is from the live tour. Bottom (and Rik and Ade in general) were hugely popular in the UK. After the three series finished they did 5 different UK tours in subsequent years and they are absolutely hilarious. I'd highly recommend you watch them after you finish the show, if you can. They also did a Bottom movie called Guest House Paradiso, also hilarious.

Check out The Last Hurrah.....it's more an audio book that Rik did and of anyone is a fan of Rik then this definitely needs to be heard. He was given complete and full rein to be as crazy, filthy, insane and genius as he wanted to be...the result is a work that is as close to how insanely genius Rik was in real life

They did 3 tours of their live show, Rik always used to get the giggles in every tour, the best one for me is from their third tour (hooligans island) with the door to the bunker fail. Rip Rik, one of my fav comedy heroes.

This was a special. Usually - I believe - it was filmed at Television Centre. I was working for the BBC at time the very first episode was recorded and I remember someone in the office had tickets for the first recording.

Bottom Livewas filmed in 1993 at The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton as part of the Bottom Live Tour. The tour was so successful that Rik and Ade wrote and recorded a third series of Bottom for the BBC in 1995, before continuing their characters' exploits in further live shows.

This is live, they released 5 or so live video / dvds every christmas lol, it wasnt christmas until i got a bottom video / dvd. Riks miss jones bit is from a 1970s comedy Rising Damp. They were really really popular as a live act, did full gig tours live

All of the live shows are on KZbin in multiple channels so you may be able to watch them on here as they aren't BBC. The film they did is also great, as is The Young Ones. I would definitely work your way through the live shows when you get time...

They’re normally in front of a live audience, but this is from their UK tour.. I got to watch their Blackpool show in the north west UK, so funny and messed up! These guys are legends! You should try watching their 60’s show “The Young One’s” or Rick Mayalls movie classic “Drop Dead Fred”

During the live tours one of them invariably ended up having to visit hospital due to being injured during the "fight" scenes. Two great comedians that really had a great affection for each other.
