Dude Barnes will not finish the season with the Spurs. They brought him in as a salary dump to help a guy who they like in DeRozen and get a late 2030s pick swap from Sac. Now they will turn around and offer any team Barnes for a 2nd round pick or anything they offer. Even if he is on the Spurs, he's playing the Devonte Graham role cause there is 0% chance he's starting over Sochan at PF, or even taking the backup PF spot from Mamu. It’s a one hour plane ride from Sac to LA, so i’m glad he’s came home. I think he’ll fit in really well, ofc he wont be relied to spread the floor, but he’s a solidified scorer, and sometimes throughout the season we needed that player to take on the scoring responsibilities when Fox was burned out. Sabonis is consistent but you can’t be too obvious with your gameplan if he’s your only option bc then teams can just load the paint. Derozan gives us a player who can be a secondary playmaker, solid rebounder, and another clutch player alongside Fox. He’s better than Barnes, and we are capable of putting many floor spacers and defenders around him if we need him to be out there on his own as well. Overall great signing.

It’s not the best fit for the Kings but Demar is an upgrade over Barnes even though Demar not the best defender. I do think that with Demar the Kings need to play more half court him and Sabonis could be a nice two man combo and Sabonis can help Demar get to his spots in the mid range. But also at the same time I wouldn’t be shocked if the Kings try to tell Demar or encourage him to shoot more threes. Overall the Kings gotten a little bit better they still a good team but that might not be enough with how brutal the west is. As for Demar this was a good deal because he going back to Cali and he can be somewhat close to home 😅.

The narrative that Demar doesn’t shoot threes is overblown tbh. He is actually a legit corner threat. He just never had the roster that had him sitting in the corner. But after Coby White took off, DeMar played a ton of possessions in the corner and he caught and shot that thing are a respectable clip. When he’s off the ball I think the kings can stick him in the corner.

DeRozan is *a lot* better in a vacuum than Barnes, fit is iffy but it's very unlikely he gets seriously hurt which would immediately make the contract terrible. Doubt it moves the needle enough to move the Kings past the play in but who knows.

The only reason I like this for the Kings is that they lost quite a few games by 1-4 points this year. If they perform the same as this year, simply having a certified closer like Derozan should help them win a few more games and he should, in theory, help them in the playoffs too when matchups matter more. I know Defrozen etc, but he's not the number 1 on this team so I actually like this move tbh. Barnes to Spurs should help them too, a trustworthy wing scorer who doesn't have an ego so he'll actually pass to Wemby. Spurs should see an improvement of Barnes and CP3 alone. Bulls at least got something tbh. 😂.

Derozen's best spot in the kings is being a 6th man and letting Monk start and running their backup offense and then in the fourth you play Fox, Monk, Derozen, Keegan and Sabonis and force people to stop an amazing offense.
