Watching these games, it feels like an effort thing. Team USA is clearly skilled but these other teams are doing the little things. They’re sprinting back on defense, they’re crashing the boards, they’re following shots, they’re intercepting passing lanes, they embrace the physicality and they’re moving faster. As the old saying goes, hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

@@davidarrington4144I usually say that nba players consciously flop because that’s what puts points on the board to win but the way that lots of guys just seem to take the end of a play off because they think a whistles coming is definitely a factor in why other teams can pick up easy steals and quick fast break buckets on this team.

I think the court is actually pretty disruptive too. Everything’s closer so movement plays are easier to recover to, all the stars have even less room to work with (cause star players take up a lot of room to be able to do their thing), and the high level spatial awareness that a lot of these guys have are kinda thrown into a bucket of ice water, since everything feels just a little bit off. Back then the floor was naturally less spread so the smaller courts didn’t hurt as much as it does to today’s players, and the plays they run. Overall, better competition and offense that is so much different in the nba compared to everywhere else is definitely showing the USA that basketball isn’t solely theirs anymore.

@Telopead2 ай бұрын
When you have a big man resides permanently in the lane, the perimeter defensive rotation naturally becomes easier, hence less space for perimeter players. That’s the main reason why 90s and early 2000s nba featured so many post play, wing or low post. NBA should really consider removing def 3s rule. With the shooting ability of modern players, too open of the lanes hurts the watchability most of times.

Really strange how the US has "struggled" internationally the past 20 years (as the world catches up). it's rough, just rag-tagging a bunch of all-stars and expecting them to win. I almost think it might just be better to package up the world championship team, and send them as the national team (I know some teams have international players like Kristaps or Luka). I mean, Boston's team (which has 3 players on team USA, minus the East conference and finals MVP Jaylen Brown--how did that happen?). Remove LeBron and Steph from the equation, and team USA could be 1-3 in warmup games? Really? 100% Anthony Davis should start over Joel Embiid. He’s the better basketball player. He’s also a better fit for the international game and playing defense in general because he can move his feet better and come out to the perimeter. Joel Embiid shouldn’t even be on team USA because he’s not a fucking American, he can claim it dating back to two years ago? He should be playing for France, and also he’s new to international play and it’s been obvious, he’s been total dog shit besides today. The rest of your points I agree with. I’d roll Curry, Edwards, LeBron, KD (when he joins) and AD as starters. Until KD gets back, I would roll with Anthony Edwards and Holiday as starters, which is superior defensively. Plus I think Book is better suited coming off the bench for instant offense. It’s crazy but in these exhibition games so far it has revealed itself that our best players are LeBron and Anthony Davis and then Anthony Edwards. Curry has been wildly inconsistent, just like he kind of was in 2014. Why is that? Because he is so perimeter jumpshot happy he doesn’t have the ability to penetrate as easily in the more physical and condensed half quart setting in international ball. That’s why having Kyrie would’ve been very nice over Haliburton or even if they decided on Jalen Brunson. Because he’s quick, crafty and slithery to get into the nooks and crannies of a defense on an international level where things are more congested.
