before the tyco 440x2 was the 440. it had the single bar magnet between the motor and the rear axle, and all other parts will exchange with the x2. it was the one used in the tyco 440 championship races held by tyco all over the country. hobby shops had the exact same track layout, and the timed events were all compared.

Thanks for the memories! I had examples of each chassis, with bodies, until I turned 18 and my mom cleaned out the basement and threw them all in the trash. I'm still angry.

Cool I found you! I have always loved Aurora AF/X, We use to have a hobby shop up town, well we still have it but it since moved. G&G Hobbies use to have a Factory Fiberglass Aurora 8 lane track, another Aurora Model Motoring public track made with Home track pieces made into 8 lanes and I use to go up there every weekend to \watch the guys race, They also had a 1/24thg scale 8 lane hill climb. My first cars ever were Aurora Vibrators, then came Thunder Jets and Tuff Ones, then regular AF/X, Magnatraction, Specialties, Aurora Xlerators, Power Passers, Tyco Pros with White Shoes and the verious tyco and newer Aurora products. I also have some Amerac slot cars when they came with speed certificates and a few after the company was sold. I have Parma controllers and a NOS still in the package early 1970's Parma Tiger film can controller! I have a butt load of stuff, model motoring and speed lok track original Aurora, Metal Model Motoring loop to loops, thumb controllers and steering wheel speedo type controllers, I even have a lexan body non magna traction AF/X car packaged for racing with a brass pan. I use to do business with HO Sherm who use to be Connecticut but passed away back in the early 80's He had everything, After market with high power magnets to high timed armatures and different windings, he had kits, bodies! He sold everything from Atlas and Aurora (he sold Tuff Ones for $2.50 with Red Devils, and he had a special on Good Humor Ice Cream Truck thunder Jets at a $1.95 a piece) and Auto World. I haven't done anything with 1/87th scale in a long time and its been 15 years since i did any 1/32 and 1/24th hill climb and Drag Racing! Did I mention I love love love Slot Cars!!! :)

When Aurora went under, they were selling AF/X car parts by the mixed bags full for something like $5 a shot, for magna traction, regular and G-Plus! you would get enough parts in each bag to build 3 cars and have extra pick ups springs commutators and brushes to fill your pit kit and drawers! it was both an exciting time to get AF/X and a sad time to see Aurora disappear

ok I did a little checking, some of the cars I have are AmRac, Rokar and Life Like. That is also the order the company started, moved too then finally became. If you don't have it here is a good looking source for you to check out: www.slotcarcentral.com And one more thing, along with HO Sherm and Auto World I also dealt with Scale Auto

I grew up on Tomy's Turbo chassis. I still have a variety of these from those days. I tried a couple of Mega Gs, in both long and short configurations, liked them for a bit, but I hate them now. I love how forgiving those single bar magnets are compared to the split neodymium magnets found in anything afterwards. I also have a couple of Autoworld chassis with the traction magnets pushed out of them, for a bit of a challenge. It's given me the bug to buy a full set (4 cars, to suit my track) of T-jets. Disappointingly, tune-up kits for the Turbo chassis skyrocketed in recent years for $17.50 (New Zealand Dollars) per kit, only to be discontinued here soon after. A quick browse on the interwebs and I can't find them for love nor money unless the shipping costs are horrific. My biggest fear is that since the Turbo chassis wasn't anything special compared to the Super G+, 440x2, or any other chassis from the golden age of slot car racing, the humble turbo chassis will disappear all together sooner than any other, even if some SRT parts are interchangable.

+Alex Paulsen I'm sorry it's so hard for your guys downunder to get parts it sucks
@jeffnorbert18712 жыл бұрын
For anyone reading years later, any parts you need for the Turbo chassis is readily available from dozens of sources. Further, an updated version of the chassis is being produced by Bulldog Racing. Tuneup "kits" made by Tomy are not so easy to find but they are a waste of money anyway aside from possibly being collectable.

Hi thankyou for the AFX info. I was browsing auctions and saw a Tomy Aurora AFX Ghost Racer Slot Car. I think it looks like a super G+ car. But not exactly and in some ways it looks like a Tyco 440x2 car. I found it SRT Turbo Chassis.
@jeffhenry73064 жыл бұрын
I believe that the first Tyco Pro that You showed, with the button pick- up shoes with springs Chassis was actually a Tyco Pro II with the wiper style Chassis being The Original Tyco Pro.

So you have a video to identify ideal chassis? I have 2 ideal slot cars from 1981 and need tires but don't know what to buy.
@jcbailey90159 жыл бұрын
Early Tyco chassis omitted from video - Tyco S. Similar scale to T-Jet Marchon is NOT LifeLike related! Early LifeLike was Amrac then became Rokar then much later LifeLike. Nice looking track set-up; hope you are running brakes and separated for each lane.
@boogie19114 жыл бұрын
After the Tycopros you had two versions of the Curve Huggers. You had the HP chassis, the differnt versions you showed, and then the HP2 version. The HP2's had two magnets in front of the rear wheels similar the the 440X2 but of course you had the can motor like the HP chassis.

Awesome! Thank you, that was very helpful. I just got the new AFX Super coupes to get back into slot cars after many years. So I have two of the new Mega G+ chassis. Way back in 1982 I had Tyco stuff and HP7's. I see there has been quite a bit since. I've been catching up on the internet and this seems to be a great primer. I see BSRT makes a lot of stuff for Mega G, but I'm looking forward to see what you can throw at the Mega G+. I'm also curious, all the previous Tomy pickup shoes are interchangeable, will the Mega G fit the Mega G+, or any other parts? Thanks.

Any parts you need for the M chassis are plentiful and easy to find. Harden Creek Slots bought what remained of the Lifelike brand and they are even producing brand new parts. Seems like people are consistently looking in the wrong places for whatever they need.
