The 2022 FIDE Candidates Tournament is an 8-player double round-robin that will decide Magnus Carlsen's challenger for the 2023 World Championship match, or, if Magnus decides not to play the match, the two players who will battle it out for the title. There is also a €48,000 top prize at stake. The venue is the Palacio de Santoña, Madrid, from June 17th to July 4th. If players tie for 1st place there will be a playoff on July 5th. No draw offers are allowed before Black's 40th move.
The players get 2 hours for 40 moves, then 1 hour for the next 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment only from move 61. A playoff will feature two 15+10 rapid games followed, if needed, by two 3+2 blitz games. If still tied the players will keep playing single blitz games until one of them wins. @@dahimnaplex2075 this is whole other issue. I think if Ian wins Candisates, Magnus will win WC. Nepo is not consistent enough to survive WC match against Magnus. Nontheless, in the Candidates, as for now, he's playing impressive chess. Even in the game against Hikaru, when he was in much worse position, he managed to hold it and equalize.

The reason taking that pawn was fine is that it actually helped out in white's attack, though it's a hard move for a human to make. The final position would have been a draw if the pawn wasn't there but the pawn prevented the rook from defending the g7 square.

I think Magnus well realizes that Nepo on his full potential is at least not worse than Fabi. Magnus's repeated claims that Ding and Fabi are stronger is the element of psychological pressure on Nepo

I guess mental stamina is also a crucial aspect in chess. I for one severely lack mental stamina, can full focus max 6 hours on a good day. Magnus seems to be able to do 12-14 hours. I think the candidates really suits Ian because every player wants to score as many points as possible so they all try to go for the win. This leads to many players prepping open lines with winning chances, even as black.

Nepo going, "barbarian mode" again, this time with the pawn pushes. He's on a hot streak with enough of a lead now that he's hard to beat. When Fabi gets to play him with the white pieces though things could change.

He's only up one point against Fabi, though. Also, Fabi has already played with black against Napo, Ding and Alireza, his greatest rivals pre-tournament (I know Nepo defeated Ding with the black pieces, but he had white against the other two). They are both brilliant and I don't see anyone else catching up unless Hikaru and/or Ding win their seventh round game. Edit: Nepo is only half a point ahead. My mistake.

It's your first time at the Candidates. You have black against the guy who won it last time and is currently on +2. He is also the guy that as soon as you are in trouble starts blitzing out moves until he checkmates you. And on top of that you are already down on the clock when he starts pushing all of his pawns. In most situations where your king is attacked you want to use enemy pawn as a shield (your opponent can't capture his own pawn), , by taking the enemy pawn you allow enemy pieces to attack your king.

Duda's bishops lost him the game, it's like they were hanging since the opening and he had to defend them both. Nepo exploited those two weaknesses very well

@@ataberk3539 I've been going thru each level of NG+ with a character build that I feel would choose each ending. For example my first play through was a battlemage who chose the Age of Stars. Second was a Lord of Frenzied Flame build (my favorite, Vyke's Warspear is KILLER). 3rd was a Golden Order Paladin & so on. Currently on NG+4 so I only have 2 more endings to go.

Nobody will fare better though. Yes Fabi can also draw, but its hard to say he was really closer to winning. Nepo matched Magnus for 6 games. The challengers are not the issue. Magnus is just too good, it's nobody's fault. More and more Nepo is looking like the clear 2nd.

i think when Duda castle, before that if he could grab the pond on e5 with Queen than the result will be different as the whole attack will be switch off and position of Duda will be strong...i wonder in many games some players take it light not garbing ponds which in the end pay big price
