The 2022 FIDE Candidates Tournament is an 8-player double round-robin that will decide Magnus Carlsen's challenger for the 2023 World Championship match, or, if Magnus decides not to play the match, the two players who will battle it out for the title. There is also a €48,000 top prize at stake. The venue is the Palacio de Santoña, Madrid, from June 17th to July 4th. If players tie for 1st place there will be a playoff on July 5th. No draw offers are allowed before Black's 40th move.
The players get 2 hours for 40 moves, then 1 hour for the next 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment only from move 61. A playoff will feature two 15+10 rapid games followed, if needed, by two 3+2 blitz games. If still tied the players will keep playing single blitz games until one of them wins. If more than two players tie for 1st there will be a mini round-robin. Official website: worldchampionshipcycle.fide.com

This move is hard to explain why it is wrong because it is not a mistake or inaccuracy. It's an open question for more better chess players than I when it comes to Ding or Fabi. Ding does seem to get into Magnus's head at times which I don't see from Fabi. Fabi seems to like similar positions to what Magnus likes to play; they're both all rounders in the same vein. Ding seems to find those little niches where Magnus has the most trouble. That is just my take though based on the games I've seen.

He thought the only problem for castling is Qh6 and he find its solution as Qf6. He can even trap white queen in that line. He completly missed f3 move. Thats why he castled.

I would like to comment on chess engine evaluation. Even though at some points in this game The Engine was saying +3.6, it's very hard to convert the position into a win. When The Engine was saying +3.6 for white, I let it show me how it would do it. It was a grueling 100+ moves with The Engine perfect play for White and Black. Some positions are pretty straightforward, like in the next 2-3 moves you lose a queen or a rook but these kinds of positions in this game are a different story. In my humble opinion, of course.

Nice Game by Fabiano he’s such a Great player I find it semi surprising he didn’t spot the knight move you pointed out that would’ve ended the game sooner definitely don’t want to keep giving your opponent chances to stay in the game and make a comeback Great Game overall though that was a surprising castling move by Hikaru but I guess when you are a confident player like he is he’s able to make daring moves

3:22 after g5 if Nxg5, hxN Bxg5 the Q is coming to f3 with no way to save the N, do you play R g8 and sacrifice the exchange? And after Rg8 is it Bh4 or h4? ( Rh8, Bg5, etc. draw?)

@@MrK623 I figured I just misunderstood what you meant. In this line, what does black play after Bxg5?
@MrK623
@MrK623 Жыл бұрын
In other lines the K can protect the pinned piece, but not here. If the R doesn't chase after the bishop, you are getting the piece back plus 2 pawns and the K side is ripped open. If the R goes after the B, you either get a repetition (or the Q or P protects the B) and now you give up the R and 2 P for B and N. Plus the King is open for attack. Maybe this is not a line for a candidates game, but for a 3 minute game with your friends at the bar or library it is worth ripping open the K side for JUST the 2 pawns for the piece, plus you can over load the pinned piece and get it back.
@toddwynn3397

@@MrK623 Absolutely. In blitz I sac a piece for two pawns to maintain a pin almost every time the opportunity presents itself.

Maybe this is odd to say, but I actually have higher chances for Hikaru doing well after this performance. Despite the blunder with 0-0, I think it’s safe to say he outplayed caruana in the oppening and that’s saying a lot. If he can keep his nerves together and take his time to not play moves like 0-0 with the same prep and confidence I think we’ll be seeing some very exciting matches from him

He didn't outplay caruana. Caruana said that he was expecting nearly everything in the opening including the castle, which he baited by doing pawn b3. After the castle he already knew that he was the only one fighting for the win. The only surprising move was rb8, which hikaru should have followed with kd7 but after getting baited by fabi into castling, it was already game over.
