Kudos to agadmator! Just got done playing a 3 minute game vs. player rated 95 pts higher than me. I almost slide my queen over to the queen rook's file so it would be in front of my opponent's passed pawn........then the alarm went off! "How many times does agadmator have to tell you?!!" So I took it up the diagonal & thanks to agadmator's tip, given several times:, "Get your rook/queen behind the passed pawn, whether it's yours or your opponent's", has become habit! I usually did, but sometimes I would take the easy route out of haste in speed chess, especially under time pressure. I won by the way :)

The color burgundy doesn't actually refer to Burgundy's wine but to Bordeaux's (southwest France). The litteral french translation of "burgundy" is "Bourgogne", a region of eastern France also known for its wine. The color-wise translation of "burgundy" is "bordeaux". Useless knowledge but a little precision is always nice ! (Carlsen is rocking that burgundy's suit)
@PeterPan-uf9or4 жыл бұрын
Alexandre Boyon thanks for that explanation. I was wondering because I never heard of burgundy red in french or german language but instead I knew there is a bordeaux red in french as well as in german. So if burgundy red is the english name for the same color this is some vast knowledge to keep :)

#suggestion Here is an idea consistent with the general format of the channel to address the request for opening videos: Select a famous (or interesting) game of your choosing for analysis and use commentary on the game to present the opening concepts and a little historical context. Such a series could go beyond openings alone and cover famous traps. Ultimately, I think a lot of these videos would get a lot of views, particularly if you start with good analyses of openings/defenses/systems that are likely to be seen in top level tournaments. Just off the top, I’d say the following should be on the early list: - Ruy Lopez (Spanish Game) - King’s Indian - Queen’s Gambit Declined - Queen’s Gambit Accepted - The Petrov - The London System - The Sicilian - The Marshall Attack - Four Knights - French Defense - The Scandi

I found the visual benefits of the way you present the games an incredibly good way to learn. I am reading Tal Botvinnik 1960, and have to say its hard to keep the moves and flow with the way a static book presents it. Have you ever thought of doing an online version of this book 'talking' Tal's commentary. It would no doubt need permission of the publishers, but would be really appreciated by chess fans. Books just aren't so suited to presenting chess and alternative moves as well as the video of the chess board with commentary can do today. Just an idea. I know you have done a series on this match, but without Tal's full analysis.

The suit color was of particular interest to me because I have been thinking and writing about the nature of non-linearity. The suit is many different colors, it is non-homogenous and depending on where you look, you will get different answers. It is only by making assumptions, mentally integrating, and comparison to mental perceptions/preferences can you decide on one best answer; similar to the process of what the best chess move you can make looking at a chess board in any state. I copied the picture and put it in a drawing program, then I sampled the color of Carlson's jacket a little below his right hand and the color was 77/255 Red, 29/255 Green, 15/255 Blue and had a hue number of 9, saturation number of 162, and luminescence 43. Then I sampled the color of his pants at a point on his left inside thigh a little below the crotch and I got 69/255 Red, 26/255 Green, 17/255 Blue and had a hue number of 7, saturation number of 145, and luminescence 40. Also I may be using this example and in a article I am writing about the nature of non-linearity and what it might mean to politics, sexual preferences, and many other things.

With regard to the suit colour mentioned at the beginning... I'm colour blind. The suit is indefinable to me. I can see colours but I can't distinguish between most of them. To me I see shades of blue, red, green etc. but the lines blur too much sometimes. To me it's a really dark shade of red (possibly) bordering on black (not black though because I can tell there's colour to it and it's not blue!). Fun fact. My school discovered I was "colour blind" aged about 14 after taking a specific test for it. My art teachers never even realised - even when I was painting brown grass and grey skies! I mean, how thick were they to keep telling me off for not using the correct colours and not realising it was because I COULDN'T BLOODY TELL!?? Sorry... had to vent. Agadmator - your channel is probably my most watched one. ;)

Nice game & commentary. Bobby Fischer won an endgame like that (against Spassky, I think) many years ago. As far as the 'pawn is not on the table' possible confusion, it would have been better to say 'capturing the pawn is off the table.' :) However, you do speak English quite well.

#Agadmator I had to smile at your comment about my information I posted on Burgundy grapes and wine. You pronunciation of my KZbin ID sounded like an Eastern European name which is an assumption that several people have made. In fact it is just kiterecord backwards. I am the Guinness World Record holder for kite altitude at 16,009 ft above ground level. I also put on large displays at festivals. I built a large kite with a chess logo and I am going to build another 3 metre kite with a chess theme. The burgundy and maroon issue came up earlier this year when I was looking for cloth that matched football teams that I was building kites for. Maroon is dark crimsen and burgundy is dark red with a dash of brown. Kite building and flying is only fractionally ahead of chess in my life. Keep up the good work.

Magnus' suit is Not Burgundy. It's too warm, with the brown tones, making this a color that only a redhead or true blonde should wear. You could call it a burnt red. A burnt or muted color is when warm tones are added to a color that would otherwise be a cooler color (winter or summer), making it a warm color (spring or fall), in this case Fall. Lime green, for example, is a very cool color, but mix in some brown tones, making it an olive green, and now you have a warm color.
