The fact that Kasparov still managed to crush strong players when the 'theory' part was removed(since its chess960)shows what beast he was in hie prime. He knows the concepts well enough to take down players even so many years after retiring, unlike todays players who sometimes memorize upto 30 moves of a line.

@@ClarkPotter openings they used to memorize obviously...but they were more of a thought out process of finding tricks in a position. Very unlike today when you know 30 moves to an equal position verified by super engines. Totally different aspects.

Kasparov probably agreed to make draw because of low time trouble not anything to do with the ability to win against hikaru
@qazzaqstan14 сағат бұрын
Definitely was a time trouble thing, he was completely winning and if he found the next 4 moves there was no counter play available. Problem is he is about 30 years past his prime when he'd see everything instantly and about 20 years past being the best player in the world. Still incredible though.

Shankland sounds like the nickname of a prison in a documentary
@miguelcanoe677410 сағат бұрын
The prison Warden Shankland is found to have a nasty scar that runs from his nostril to his upper lip. It is first revealed when he slowly turns to the camera in scene 3. Lit from the only window - He was playing chess at his desk. His aid walks in “sir, there has been a shanking in the yard” the warden slowly smiles, the scar lifting enough of his lip to allow the sun to glint off of a single canine. He moves another piece. “ bring him to me” as he removes a pawn from the 7th rank. “Bring him to me”

The 9LX refers to the 960 possible initial positions. L is 50 in roman numerals, X is 10, so LX is 50+10 ie 60. I guess they left the 900 as is because maybe they thought it looked more stylish and sounded better spoken out loud.

Hey, just a rule update. This channel is no longer allowed to post (winning) games by Viktor Korchnoi nor Emanuel Lasker. All other game types from them are acceptable. Aside from the games being too complex, a restriction is imposed due to lack of preexisting coverage. The same ban exists on ChessNetwork. No exceptions. Thanks

With friends, I've played a version of 960 that isn't random at all. Pawns go in their normal spots. Then black places a piece. White mirrors that placement (for instance, rook on e1 if black put their rook on e8) and then places a piece of their own. White mirrors that before placing a piece, and this continues into all pieces are placed. This is a self-invented variation, tho I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with it. I always think how interesting it would be to see GMs play this. Imagine the intrigue regarding how they play their pieces. Do they go for a drawish opening position, or a sharp one? Do they play one of the 30 or so most common opening positions, or go off the beaten path?

I find this game of chess quite interesting because it uses only "chess rules and tactics" over regular chess theory, so it's a battle of the minds. Not sure if the engine's can calculate from the start if one side has an automatic advantage from the beginning, but it can be clear that mistakes in this game are quickly punished. Thanks for making these videos.
