Congratulations to Arjun on reaching 2800. Agadmator mentioned World Champion vs 2800 club. They don't measure the same thing. Like in every sport, you can only be compared against your contemporaries. Even Arpad Elo said his ratings system is only a RELATIVE scale, and cannot be used to compare ABSOLUTE STRENGTH of players of different eras. The fundamental idea of Elo rating is that players have to exchange points by playing each other. As there is no way to make, say, Magnus Carlsen and Bobby Fischer play each other, they can't exchange points, so the Elo rating system does not work. Consider also a hypothetical scenario where every current player all study chess seriously but there are no new players. Everyone (except maybe those already at the top) will get stronger. But there are only so many Elo points to go around. We can expect the top players to lose points because those at the bottom are now stronger, but they haven't actually lost any playing strength. Elo is therefore only a RELATIVE measure. As for Arjun, what matters for him is he's now third-highest rated player in the world - the highest rated among "young" players (i.e., not counting Magnus, Fabi and Hikaru). The future World Championship may well be a contest between Erigaisi, Gukesh, Abdusattorov, Firouzja and Pragnanandhaa.

I believe the 15 players to break the 2800 club: Magnus Carlsen (2889.2)☆ Garry Kasparov (2856.7)☆ Fabiano Caruana (2851.3) Wesley So (2824.5) Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2819.3) Levon Aronian (2835.5) Vishwanathan Anand (2820.7)☆ Ding Liren (2816.9)☆ Hikaru Nakamura (2819) Vladimir Kramnik (2817.8)☆ Alireza Firouzja (2804) Anish Giri (2802.8) I can only say 12 with certainty. Possible picks would be: Sergey Karjakin, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Antonly Karpov☆, Topalov (2826.5)☆, and Wei Yi ☆ indicates that they held title of World Champion *Bobby Fischer hit 2795 while no one else was 2600 so he was so above his competition that his draws he would lose points and his wins he would hardly gain anything *Garry hit 2800 when only Karpov was the only other 2700 putting him in a similar vein as Fischer Edit: I was correct about Topalov. I forgot - Mamedyarov and Grischuk. *Ian hit 2799.8 and 2795 officially Edit2: added their ratings

Are the rating points zero sum? What does a new player get when joining this system? For every new entrant to the list, that presumably adds in rating points to the overall pool of rating points and then as new players win and draw matches against established players, they 'steal' points from other players that are higher rated than them?

In 1972 the world championship challenger Fisher had a chess rating of 2785’ He was 1 rating point higher then Gukesh is today! (2784). The difference is then that the world champion then Boris Spasky - the second strongest man in the world was rated 2660 - which would be equal to being the 62 strongest player in the world today - just after Michael Adams! Ding is 2728 about 86 rating points lover them Gukesh! What is impressive about Fisher he would have been in the top five in the world today - only some 45 ratings point after Carlsen and that includes the inflation of Rating points. Increadible!

I think 2800 club is more prestigious than the classical world champions club in a way, because joining the latter is somewhat up to chance - you could be the second best player to have ever been born and never become world champion just because you live in the same era as the first one. ELO is a more objective measure of a player's strength. Kasparov's peak elo still being the 2nd highest ever achieved, or Fabi's and Levon's being 3rd and 4th, it tells so much more of a story than just counting who has and who hasn't won the world championship.
