Here's part 1 of a 2 part set of videos, a cover of I am the Wooden Doors from Agalloch's 2002 masterpiece album, The Mantle. This track is the heaviest on the record featuring double bass over much of the track, black metal-esque vocals and tremolo guitars, yet several very melodic acoustic guitar parts and solos. The resulting piece, despite the heavy influences, is an extremely melodic song with lush guitar density.
For tracking, I double tracked all electric guitars, which I basically was able to cover most of the instrumentation in the song that I could identify in 4 guitar parts. There were additionally three acoustic guitar parts , although I bumped one of those acoustics to electric guitar for playability reasons. Bass was tracked direct into the DAW, drums were recorded with my regular mic configuration, and all vocals (heavy and melodic) were double tracked as well.
Special thanks to Henri Aalto for filming the snowy scene at the beginning, as he's already getting fresh snow in Finland. You should check out his youtube channel as he's a fantastic guitarist!
