Wasn't the point of buying Marvel and Star Wars to give Disney franchises that appealed to men instead of the Disney princess female audience. Then they use the IP's to create female centric shows?
@Korschtal13 сағат бұрын
It seems there's a school of thought amongst Feminists, that having shows for men is somehow supporting "Toxic Masculinity", so they're trying to take them over.
@zephodb12 сағат бұрын
I wish that was the point... No, the point was to make omni-world-eating-IPs... that men were stuck with, and then change them so women would like them just as much, while somehow keeping the men interested. This way Disney could just focus all its best talent at this new format and expect EVERYONE to go always and forever. They have well-and-soundly failed at keeping the men interested, so it seems Agatha here is swinging to at least get the women properly invested. c.c They have been using PR shame-tactics to TRY and get women involved 'all along' (sorry, bad joke there) and it has had a high variability of effect; the answer is usually not, with men still making up most of the audience and failing to attract a new audience while slowly loosing the old one.

I've been entertained enough so far. Is it a great series? No. There are pacing issues and tonally I think it lacks consistency. But, the characters are at least interesting and so far the series is a decent October/Halloween appetizer. All of the witches are deeply flawed and are essentially the rejects of their kind. They aren't girl-bossing their way through the series and are each dealing with their own internal struggles. The Teen on the other hand is a flat deus ex machina character rather than a proper audience surrogate that I think would have served the story better. Especially considering the outcome of the audience surrogate, the Green Witch, in the third episode. Overall though, I'm still interested in where the series goes.

I think the reason ratings are tanking is the fact it's just not "Marvel". It's not superheroes or villains doing superhero and villain stuff. It's a group of middle-aged Wickens living vicariously with characters they create for a multi-million dollar production. It's made for a target audience, that does not exist. That's not to say no one will watch it and/or enjoy it, it's just saying that there are not many goths, wickens, and satanist, watching Disney+. They are more your Tim Burton types of girls, not your Walt Disney types. Regardless of age.

What this show needs is a Knight Rider crossover! Sure it makes no fucking sense, what does these days?
@barnabusdoyle4930Күн бұрын
I disagree. It needs a Terminator crossover. A ruthless machine bent on killing all of the characters in the show, completely immune to any and all magics, and each episode Agatha sacrifices one of her horde to save herself. Slowly the rest of the group realizes that Agatha is using their fallen as a shield against her own fate and they start to turn on her.
@n.d.m.5154 сағат бұрын
@@barnabusdoyle4930 I would actually watch that. No, seriously that sounds awesome where the hero is actually the villain hunted down by a greater villain. The actual hero turns out to be a non-witch who realizes that if all the witches die then a still greater threat will destroy the world. The killing machine was sent by the greater magical force to destroy the only forces that could protect the world; outcast witches. The non-witch then does what they can to protect the other witches from Agatha without killing her and find a way to destroy the killing machine.

There's been very successful series that were pretty much based on this concept. American Horror Story, Charmed, and to a lesser extent American Gothic. I am sure there were others. The show has no excuse to be this bad. Now you can say Charmed was bad too, but that didn't matter because, well, it was charming enough - it pulled in female viewers with hot men, it pulled in (some) male viewers with hot women, and the stories were adequate for the audience. I just don't see many people under forty watching this to see sexy people, and middle aged wine mums don't usually care about Marvel anyway. Plus, they want studs too - the pool boy equivalent. Where are the men for them to salivate over? Sure, there are some lesbian wine mum marvel watchers, but did they really think that demo would sustain them?

Definitely agree with your final point: How could the writers not have Agatha be more pivotal in the solution to the puzzle? I did enjoy this episode more than the previous two. Save for some video game plotting, It reminded me a bit of Lifetime’s “The Witches of East End,” a long forgotten series I actually did enjoy back in 2014 - which still did a lot more than this series with a micro-fraction of a Marvel budget. It was a much better written show. Agatha is a series that probably would fair better with a rational budget on a more traditional cable network, such as a Lifetime. But I guess nobody in Hollywood would consider producing a scripted series for linear cable in this say and age. That would be beneath them.
