If you haven’t yet, check out Kathryn’s new interview with In Creative Company. The way she talks about Agatha in big scenes I think is how we should try to interpret the character. She firmly said what many of us have said, that her mother attacked while possessing her and once the power blasts her, she can’t stop it. She also said that she was very vulnerable right before it happened bc of mom’s words, but also her coven not being there for her,’which guts her. She said that Agatha is horrified that Alice is dead, and also completely raw and exposed to have done this in front of this coven that at the time she felt the leader of. And now doesn’t know her place in the group. She also says that it scares her bc she needs them, and confirms that teens moral superiority to her and refusal to believe her is why she snaps.

Also I can't believe Mal didn't like the Death reveal, I thought she looked creepy and awesome! Even though many of us knew who Rio was, I thought that sequence was well executed, especially as the ending to the tarot sequence

So glad that someone finally picked up the "reunion" clue. So many reactors etc. are fixated on "Tommy" or "Wanda" and they kept overlooking the QUESTION Teen had asked. The question Lilia had told him to "concentrate on, excluding all other thoughts". Billy Maximoff no longer exists. His memories were gone, like William Kaplan's, only the emotional pull of the word "Tommy"? remained. For three years Teen literally built himself by piecing together the evidence left behind in William's room, and the thoughts and memories of the Kaplan parents. The excitement on Joe's face when Lilia said "reunion" made me weep. I think Billy has been thinking about this a lot, probably even more since Agatha's "where did you find this fresh body you're wearing" line.

This is an episode that speaks to the power of a good story to stretch time. I felt this as a 45-60 minute episode and only looking back did i realize it was much shorter. Hi Mallory and Joanna. I totally Love all of your videos (that I've seen) and especially appreciate the Deep Dives ! And this pretty incredible piece of story-telling, writing, Television is So worth exploring, talking about, analyzing for sure. But then you, Joanna, broke the spell (in a Good way) by speaking to my own experience of "Death's Hand in Mine" ... the Alzheimer's/ Dementia take which kind of gutted me ... those of us who have had loved ones go through that (and I'm so very sorry that you have been touched by this too), well, for us it could definitely be somewhat triggering. It didn't lessen my appreciation of an incredible and affecting story crafted, written and directed masterfully by Jac Schaeffer and her awesome creative team with Patti Lupone truly inhabiting Lilia and Sasheer Zamata's Jen gently guiding and being guided by her. But the disorientation and the struggle to be rooted at times only momentarily and usually with someone, these were heartbreakingly painful and too recognizable. I had to take a moment to adjust mentally and emotionally but was able to go on to value and enjoy the ride. And I adore the Agatha and Billy/ William journey of it all, of course, but I think I just wanted to thank you for bringing it up. No one else (reactors and such) that I've watched had really acknowledged that thing that I felt and suspect many others did too. So, once again, thanks for being willing to go there. This show is so beautiful and smart and fun and emotionally meaningful ... and to have one chapter, "Death's Hand in Mine", speak so eloquently on what I guess are the most human and universal experiences and fears and possibly arriving at a place of integrity in one's life: It feels like art really serving to reflect and soothe, remind and, unpreachingly, teach. Thanks for all you do with your platforms ever thoughtfully, sensitively, intelligently and magickally. 💜, karli

I’m starting to get the feeling that I’m one of the only people who thinks that while yes Agatha and Rio are a cute couple, that they’re seriously toxic. It feels like trauma bonding to me. Agatha went through that whole thing with her mom and old coven, and here comes Rio telling her everything she’d want to hear about how it’s all okay. Then they traipse around the world causing death and destruction (Titanic/Hindenberg) so Death can get more bodies. Is it really just me?

That's part of the appeal, though. They're a villainous coupling, and Agatha is the one of the two who attempts to redeem herself instead of fully giving into their natures. Rio isn't even chaotic evil, just neutral, so it works really well imo

Elizabeth Olsen wants to come back as Wanda Maximoff but she is only willing to if the storyline warrants her return and respects the character. She had faith the creators of MoM would do her justice but her input wasn't really valued during the production of the movie. It put a really bad taste in her mouth and she doesn't want to repeat those mistakes. I genuinely think unless they give her a script that she approves of and is given more authority when it comes to her character she won't come back.

Haven’t listened to the whole thing but this is obviously “this road” is a Hex from Billy in the sewers underneath West View. Agatha keeps saying he’s so much like his mother. this is all a version of what Billy thinks the road would be like.

Also the comments Agatha has made like when billy said it was exactly how he imagined the road and she said the road suits him. In this episode I thought it was weird that she was surprised he really loved his costume, like he chose it. The Magician Card and turning his wishes into reality (Agatha's face is interesting). I'm sure there are some moments that I'm missing. Agatha knows something's up.

Hey guys, I want to forward a theory. I've noticed that 2 witches depicted as part of the Minor Arcana are now deceased, Alice & Lilia. Billy, Jen, and Rio are depicted in the major arcana as the Tower, High Priestess, and Death. Their fates are still tied outside of this story.

La maestra felt so right. really impressive for five minutes of screen time. A little more insight for the tarot/Sicilian connection (I'm Italian) actually Sicilian tarot decks are a little different and feature different major arcana, They're pretty interesting 😊 like gods and planets. Also they have female knights (which is quite common in southern Italy decks) just like Alice was. Patty lupone's mother is Sicilian so that might be why they chose this specific part of Italy. However, perhaps coincidentally, Saint Agatha is also Sicilian! She was from Catania. So they might've connected some dots here 🎉 love your podcast, very insightful.

Kathryn Hahn signed a deal with Marvel a while back for both shows and movies, so I really don't think she's done after this show. Even without knowing that, I wouldn't think that Agatha would be killed off and Hahn would be done with the MCU. That doesn't make sense to me as there's a lot she could be a part of going forward (Vision Quest, a possible Scarlet Witch movie, Young Avengers etc.) Even if she does die, shoe could just become a spirit or a ghost like she does in the comics.

I do have a theory ghost!Agatha will be Billy's mentor. It allows Kathryn Hahn to come just make snarky one liners and leave. The sad thing would be that Rio said she hates ghost. That would be a real wrench in their relationship!

Resident Jen defender here, and I have to say that Lilia unintentionally offended Jen first. Jen only said " and you need a chemical peel" because Lilia says "you're bound." She literally brought up Jen's medical issue that she's been suffering with for a century within seconds of meeting her. It's much like bringing up someone's weight, infertility, psoriasis, etc... It wasn't Jen being mean without provocation, at least in my view.

How do we explain the “when she calls you a coward, hit the deck” advice to Agatha. That is premonition beyond her death. Does this mean she isnt really dead or that she exists in a different version of this timeline where she didn’t die? She travels through time visiting herself in the future and passed. How does she visit a time where she no longer exists.

I already felt very gutpunched by the sharp turn in episode 5 and I haven’t liked the show as much since, with the exception of ep 7’as a standalone. I’m just not interested in Billy or the other stories in the mcu without Kathryn and Agatha. I also dont feel like a Jennifer has shown that she deserves any of this high praise by this one episode. Yes she helps Lilia, but that’s also her one remaining companion, who is clearly vulnerable, and until the last minute would’ve take that subway out. It’s almost like her pride has can’t let her skip out when Lilia is ready to risk herself help the rest of the coven. None of that seems genuine about helping them. It doesn’t make up for the way she treated Agatha the whole time. And clearly she leaves pretty soon after. 1:42:43 Agatha’s obstacle is her sorrow and grief. The way Lilia speaks of the coven as a whole, and helps Agatha at the end with the tip. She’s not the obstacle, but her grief is her own obstacle and the obstacle in her relationships.

That's part of the charm for me. Like Billy couldn't create something that grand or authentic, but it was still a more intricate hex than Wanda's
