I actually felt like this premium edition is surprisingly fair. It's cheaper than buying the normal eddition and 2 DLC's. So everything else is basically for free on top of that. I know I will be getting DLC's anyway, so getting the premium eddition here was a no brainer. The only I thing I dislike and agree with criticising is the play-7-day-earlier thing. I wish they'd just let everyone start as soon as they can and I am saying this as someone who owns the Premium Edition. Anyway in my opinion it's not nearly as bad as you claim it is. I've seen a lot greedier premium models in games.

So yes the pre-order is cheaper, simply because anyone who gets it is inherently the category of person who had no intention of waiting for discounts on this particular title. Also the refund window exists as it always does on steam. You are paying sight unseen, but you aren't locked into that. Price discrimination by its nature is good for the consumer, all in all. It allows people to access the product in different price ranges, and the trade-off is the willingness of an individual to spend more to access earlier. This is two factors, even someone who can afford to do it will often only choose to buy some products early, there is the preferential factor and not merely the capability factor, but it does mean that those who are most able to afford the product pay a higher portion of the cost of development (and any profits). Price discrimination is digital non-rival-in-consumption goods that we can enjoy 70 or 90% sales on digital distribution platforms downstream of the release. The "head" and the "tail" have to come together, it's about different consumers prioritising products differently.

It's dishonest practice. The game was months away from releasing and they already started announcing DLC's, one of which undisputably should have been in the main game, and already added it into the preorder. And the old portraits, just add them for Christ's sake, they cost next to 0 to put into the game, not 6$ per player. Such hyperexpensive microtransactions are meant to compensate an otherwise free game, not to extort players and itch their FOMO. They are giving you the game in pieces, demanding you to pay for each one for the full experience.

As much as I hate pre-order and premium access and the like, I will give them one thing, the pricing, even with premium, is still half that of a modern AAA game, and it's not like this is a simple facelift, it's basically the whole game remade, sounds/models/maps/UI/balance/features, honestly, that's a damn good value for money.

Many of the changes to the gameplay, QoL and graphics have overall been a net positive. But the campaign, the voice acting in particular, leaves a LOT to be desired I genuinely can't tell if the new voices are placeholders, AI generated or if they are close to the final version because they sound.so.FLAT!!! The accents are totally fine, even appreciated, but the actors take these unnaturally long pauses between certain lines, lines that used to be read as intentionally sarcastic, joking, angry etc. are now being played completely straight and it just makes it all sound much more boring. Sure, the cheesiness is gone, but not only did that add to the charm, it was *memorable* From what I've heard thus far, Ajax and Agamemnon are the best. Because you can tell, like the original VAs, they are having a TON of fun playing these braggadocious/overconfident characters. Arkantos is "fine" The voice actor does a good enough job with what direction he's being given, but I feel like he might have been misscast alltogether. As he sounds almost too young to play an admiral on the cusp of retirement and he doesn't really give off the same confidence the original does. As tongue-and-cheek as it was sometimes. Athena almost sounds bored. She doesn't give off the same quiet wisdom as the original. She does do a soft, whispery voice similar to the original briefly which shows that she CAN emulate it but isn't being directed to. Said soft voice just gave the original that mysterious aura, as if Arkantos really was talking to a godly being and one who knows much more than what she is allowed to say. And Kamos, oh man, they did him dirty cause he sounds AWFUL! He genuinely sounds goofy, like a saturday morning cartoon villain; whereas the original sounded kind of intimidating and more akin to what you'd expect from a freaking Minotaur. This SERIOUSLY makes me worried about what they did to Amanra, Kemsyt, Gargarensis, Adult Kastor and ,of course, the hillarious General Malegious. Really hope they didn't change much of the campaign so that we can freely switch back to the old voices. And if there aren't any changes, that does make me wonder, why change the voices *at all?* And the major god artworks are honestly , mostly, a downgrade of the originals. Also not a big fan of Kronos's redesign. It just looks less distinct/unique than the original

As an upgrade of an old game, can't help but wish more tangible innovations were injected into the new version. Lots of options, but for this and AOE4, how hard would it have been to implement full 360deg camera movement/tilt around the map (like for Relic's own Dawn of War & CoH)? Not to mention, easily adjustable pop limits/unit costs for non-competitive play. Feels like AoM's ragdoll physics would have been great fun with 500 units per side, and a more chaotic battle map (surely even modest modern hardware would be up to it, if optimised properly). Where has the ambition gone with games like this? Thanks as always Zade, a great informative video. It again leaves a bad taste seeing those premium ++ costs & week early access deals etc, will treat with caution and wait for reviews.

I do not only think it's fine that you got the early access, I think it is needed. If by doing that you prevent just one person, who'd otherwise blindly bought it, to not do it, the producers already are at a net 0 in regards to you and your audience. I am not so sure if is amazing. The Corpses and Destructions desapear after 5 secs AND is possible to WALL your base using constructions INSTEAD OF USING WALLS, making it not apear as village, farm, town or a city as Intended (actually it looks like nothing haver done and it is ugly - soldiers could just jump windows or climb easily). For this, I say a lot of immersion was lost, something age 3 and 4 have done better.

just seeing this video 1 day before de early access, the criticism was on point and it seems like they took note since the announced that part of the early premium access the premium version has a new set of norse gods, whose timeframe of release has not been disclosed but that is that, also the inclusion of the chinese pantheon who also are not disclosed when but it seems like they have planned some extra content. all in all is not a cheap game, although in my opinion is worth the price tag. the early access is just an extra.

Typical Zade exaggeration. Premium Edition can be completely avoided if you simply want to buy expansions later. The base game is $30. Yes, $30. The later expansions are the Chinese Pantheon, and perhaps, another down the road. These are massive amounts of content for still less than the total price of a new game these days. You're also not really a fan of this game to begin with. If you're passionate about AoM (and a lot of people are), people will want this content. You can either pay slightly less for it now or simply wait. This is also a complete remake of the game versus a Definitive Edition. Charging $30 for this is a steal, and if they weren't funded by Xbox, it would cost a lot more, imo. The devs will need to pull in revenue down the line to keep the franchise going. You pretend like devs just get a pass because a game might be cool to you, and that's not how real life works.

the game is large rip off. your playing 70$ FOR BALANCE CHANGES on 20 year old game. how crazy is that? this base version of the game should be free to anyone that owns original copy or Extended edition of this game. 0 new content is added in story mode and extra map is hardly worth this kind of pricing. It is fine to charge DLC 10-15$ for new content. that is normal in today's marker for video game for full price for a game has been re-released twice? insanity. As far as beta is concerned, it doesn't even come with Atlanta that original old game came with.

the 70$ version includes both planned DLCs, so you're actually getting new content for that. Also making an up to date version of the game costs time and money so I'm fine with them charging money for their product. They also already said that Atlanteans will be part of the game and included in the basic version. They were just not playable in the beta - but they will be in the upcomming stress test.

@@TohoBuWaha Technically there's only one new DLC coming, the other one will just be the Chinese from the Expanded Edition. And they're keeping it all very vague, we have no idea if it's gonna get proper new factions like the AoE 2 DE DLC where it gets new campaigns as well or if it's just gonna get new factions for multiplayer like AoE 3 DE did. Time will tell i guess, it will probably depend how well the remake sells.

But if you're still gonna play it, then why not just buy in at a later date on key selling sites for both cheaper and a way to not directly support the devs if you don't want to support them (And allows you to get the game after it's been updated) Pirating it gives you a release patch game (Which might be broken), risk of viruses and technically can get you in trouble.
