Aging-not cancer or heart disease-is the world’s leading cause of death and suffering. In spite of this, we accept the aging process as inevitable. We come to terms with the fact that our bodies and minds will begin to deteriorate and our risk of disease will rise as we get older.
Aging is so deeply ingrained in the human experience that we never stop to ask: is it necessary?
Scientists, on the other hand, know that aging is not a biological inevitability. Dr. Andrew Steele's new book Ageless introduces us to the cutting-edge research that is paving the way for a revolution in medicine. It takes us inside the laboratories where scientists are studying every aspect of the body: DNA, mitochondria, stem cells, the immune system, even ‘aging genes’ that have helped animals enjoy a tenfold increase in lifespan-and which could, in the not too distant future, lead to treatments that could forestall our own bodies’ decline.
Steele will explain how understanding the scientific implications of aging could lead to the greatest revolution in the history of medicine-one that has the potential to improve billions of lives, save trillions of dollars, and transform the human condition.

My mother is 98 yrs old, fairly healthy but she is not happy, everything hurts, eyes, ears going, has to take many meds. Getting old is not for the weak.

Better pay attention to this kiddies... Old equals lots of pain ( broken hip X2) for example...stenosis of spine...bad knees. Now, mds are afraid of govt so pain meds are no longer available. I truly understand no one wants to loose their licence or carreer but pain really sucks especially because the govt. Controls the mds. Sad and scarey.

I empathize, however, because of unscrupulous doctors and big pharma, pain killers had to be a controlled substance. Don’t blame the government, blame big pharma who got people addicted in the first place!

Andrew it seems to me that treating the hallmarks of aging is still not getting to the source of aging, the clock .

Very nice talk, but the Northern (UK) accent is rather offputting. What happened to those years spent in Oxford? 'Geddin' old is not getting old

Moral investment must be law for the world and equal distribution as each individual cow does not take more than need to maintain itself. That cow or monkey very seldom over eats or uses more but some humans never satisfied take from others or hoard.

My hope in the young scientists because humans are monkeys are curious asking “why”! Answers for all my why gives me endorphins my pleasure of learning MORE to teach the young because science builds on new discoveries!

God! Dr Steele has to learn how to speak clearly and at a slower speed so the audience can follow him; His telescoping of words at 200 wpm, sounds like a jumble!

Perhaps Dr Steele can now turn his obviously significant academic ability to finding ways to pay for the impact of his thesis
