If you read the book written by Tony Oppedisano, he talks about bringing a sandwich to Frank to put by his bed and sees him kneeling by his bed and hears Frank's prayer thanking God for his many blessings and asking for him to continue to be able to take care of his family and friends. This was late in his life. It's wrong to assume that Frank is not with God.

Sinatra was a talented singer/actor. He was also an extremely promiscuous, hard-drinking man. Ava Gardner was simply an extremely promiscuous hard-drinking woman. James Kaplan in his definitive biography on Frank called her "a beautiful nihilist". She achieved nothing of value, apart from her endless quest for gratification. She ruined many marriages, including her own. She drove Frank to near-suicide. Ironically he made his greatest music, because of his destructive relationship with Ava. Eventually, he dropped her as her drinking and wanton behaviour got wilder. Her excesses destroyed her looks and she died alone aged 67. Nancy Sinatra behaved with enormous dignity throughout Frank's shabby behaviour. She never remarried and didn't write any kiss and tell stories about her time with Frank. A lady of true dignity. Even Frank regretted his treatment towards her. She outlived both of them for many years.

I hope Nancy eventually realized that she was the sane person and that Frank and Ava were drawn to each other because they were both damaged and unstable. Nancy didn't get her "happily ever after", but neither did Frank and Ava as it would have been impossible between those two highly volatile people. Nancy got to raise her children and enjoy her friends and her life. Frank may have told his daughter he wouldn't have left his wife if he had to do it all over again, but he would have. He had neither the maturity nor the self-realization to appreciate his wife's qualities over the glamour of Ava. I feel sorry for Ava too.
