I have a rabbit who has an extremely awful past, as a result she is EXTREMELY aggressive and has very high anxiety to the point where she cannot be taken out of her enclosure without hours of convincing. She has turned around to a point where she respects me and I respect her and she will come out to see me so long as I respect her space. Might not sound like a lot but fir her it is AMAZING.

Sydney a rabbit vet is a regular vet. Its like 7 years of college its not like hey ill just be a rabbit vet i know stuff.
@kathryntuscano67985 жыл бұрын
Pete, most vets know absolutely nothing about rabbits. Of all the vets in my area, like 10% will treat rabbits. The first one I went to see suggested I fast my rabbit for 12 hours to be spayed. 1) u never fast a rabbit. They need 24/7 access to food. Their digestive systems are super sensitive. Fasting for that long can be deadly. 2) the reason you fast dogs/cats is so they dont vomit. You dont have to fast a rabbit bc theyre physically unable to vomit When I got to the vet I tried to tell them that my rabbit was really shy - she was a recent rescue with hardly any socialization - and not to pick her up. They took her in the back without me. When i got into the room, they said, "Your rabbit isn't very friendly." Like, are you serious??? They told me they pulled her out of her carrier to weigh her and she freaked out. Well duh... The poor thing was hiding in the back of the carrier, totally catatonic for the rest of the visit. My vet told me there was no reason for me to get her fixed and that she had only fixed 3 rabbits, all males, and she was pretty sure my rabbit would die of stress from the surgery. Well after what they did to her I'm honestly suprised she made it home alive. But this vet was telling me there were no benefits to spaying a female... Okay, here goes: besides curbing negative hormonal and behavioral issues, female rabbits who dont get spayed have an 80% chance of developing uterine cancer by the age of 2. I would say thats a pretty good reason to do it. After that, I called every vet within an hour trip who treated rabbits. If they told me to fast her, I crossed them off my list. Unfortunately, she is now 3 years old still yet to be spayed. This girl knows a ton. More than any vet I've spoken to. I don't think Sydney was expecting her to just go out and start cutting rabbits open with no training. Just making a suggestion bc vets who know anything about rabbits are few and far between - if they exist at all.

Jayne's corner try bonding with your bunny. Try to make them comfortable and just lay on the floor and wait for them to come to you. They feel more comfortable when your their same level. Remember they are still prey animals so it’s okay if they scratch you. My bunnies love me but they still scratch me. They like to hide and just be patient with them too. Mixed_Edits try this too.

I had a bunny for almost 7 years, he was aggressive to others but not to me I was his human, he basically lived free cage life, he was poop trained, he never left my room by himself even if the dor was opened. He hated everyone except me :-) whenever a stranger came into my room he was bitting the stranger's ankels eh eh, I loved this in him he was like my bunny protector :-)

Marina mamaa I miss my old bunny so much, I'm crying... I had her for 7 years until a dog I was looking after got upstairs and broke the door and killed her... my baby girl... She loved me so much and cuddled, gave kisses and was literally my only friend... She didn't mind being held... it all happened so fast and now she's gone... my hockey team surprised me with another baby lop bunny only a month after and she was friendly the first few days but then she just started digging at my pants and shirt and nipping, as well as always trying to play and never cuddling or sleeping anywhere near me like the did a few days prior. It makes me regret getting one, I just wish I got more time to meet rabbits at shelters and not be surprised by my team with a pedigree baby bunny. She's cute but nothing else... I just want a friend not a cute viewing toy.. I wish I never got her... I really hope it's just her age and that she will get over her over active behaviour since she's only 6 weeks old... it just makes me hate her when I think about my old rabbit which I try not to but I really think it was far too soon for another rabbit and it breaks my heart. My parents don't know that I cry myself to sleep regretting it... I feel guilty because she's only a little baby bun. I wanna get her a hopefully kinder friend who is a little more like my old bun but my parents would for sure say no as we can't afford it :( I hate it... does anyone know if rabbits tolerate more things when they get a bit older than little babies?
@lazyhomebody13566 жыл бұрын
@@foxyflame4173 someone else said their 6 week old is suddenly awful. Are you going to spay her? You could get another bunny, she may need a friend, and it could be more cuddly to you. I would never get a pet for anyone- you have to "recognize" each other

I rescued a male castrated mini lop (but he is HUGE) rabbit 2 years ago, he had never been on grass and only ate the food out of his bowl, when I put him on the grass for the first time being age 3 he didn't eat grass or weeds, I put his tiny wooden hutch into a supper large safe and secure spare dog kennel we have on the far. He was so aggressive and would fight anyone or anything near him, he was sad and depressed 😣 1 year later I got 6 chicks and 3 duckling all age 3 days old in summer. When they were 2 weeks old I put all the chicks out on the grass in a large pen with lots of tunnels and logs to play on. I decided to put him in as well and watched I case anything happened. He was so kind and stretched out in the sun with the chicks all climbing all over him. Now he is out in a 50 by 40 yard secure run with the chickens and ducks he also has his own secure corner full of grass when he goes through his tunnel so it's hiss own area with out the chickens or ducks, he comes to his name still not keen on being picked up, but that's ok. The duck chickens and him all sit/lay out in the sun and it is so cute

My rabbit never used to like to be picked up but now he will come into my lap and onto my chest when out and running around (unfortunately he's in a cage but gets a couple hours daily) so he can get loves and cuddle. He'll sit there and purr for an hour. Of course, I'm not standing when he does it. I've had him for 7 years and he's actually a great support animal. When my anxiety hits, he will thump until I pick him up and cuddle him. I can't imagine not having a bunny in my life.

Our rabbit is new, grown, & prob set in his ways... but he's coming around... he let's my hubby hold him longer, & willingly goes up to him. But thumps at him way more often. But also submits to him. While the bunny shows me more of his softer side but must think he owns me. I low key thinks he knows where to use the bathroom. He just wants to do his own thing. Every morning I wake up & there's just a nice pile of poo beside me. I told my hubby ,"I swear, he really thinks that's his side. That's his territory! I just unintentionally put my feet over on that side & Mr snowy over there, he just nibbles at my feet like poof feet, b gone." But yeah, I do tell my hubby maybe he thumps somexs bc he actually wants ur attention. Haha my hubby low key is scared of his teevers

Hasn't lunged at me but jumps up right to me as if he wants to be pet or to be fed a snack. Ans he's always after my little female Maltese! Bad breeds... some breeders especially the pedigree rabbit breeders breed for colours and shapes. And ignore personality. My pedigree buck refuses to eat from my hand, enjoys kicking poop and ignores me most of the time unless he is hungry or horny. He's not aggressive, just stubborn. A handsome subborn rabbit ... just like a politician. He follows me around when I'm outside, cause he's afraid of dogs. My Doe on the other hand, bright personality. Loves to eat off my hand. Comes from a specific breeder. Nearly all his kits comes out with bright personalities. Don't know if she'll follow me around, but personality is so different to the buck...
@jackseve6 жыл бұрын
He is not aggressive, he is showing that he is an alpha male. It is def his personality also to show who is boss. Some don't have to show it they all just assume their place in pecking order. Other bunnies have to try to force their way into being the dominant.

how do you trim their nails if you can't pick them up!?!?!? any tips?
@gachagirls81055 жыл бұрын
You can still pick them up just DONT if you dont have to. If you have to pick them up to put them in the cage or to put them in a carryout to take them to the vet's that's different. Just dont pick your rabit up if you dont have to you have to respect their space to! If you where a rabit you wouldn't want something 10 times the size of you constantly picking you up all the time! Like to put them on your bed to cuddle with or put them on the couch or just to hold them most rabits really dont like that.

keep them on soft flooring so they don't get sore hocks, but set up a play area for them to be in a few hours a day. have most if not all of the flooring sandpaper to wear their nails down, and give them lots of things to dig in that area. make them a digging box. do anything that will naturally wear their nails down. you can use veggies, pellets, and treats as a distraction while you file or cut their nails

my bunny has a chronical eye problem, it started 3 years ago, healed, trimmed crooked tooth, then her left eye started to run and close again, took to vet, antibiotics etc, nothing helps ... i try to clean her eye and get her rid of this horrible situation almost every day, by now, i lost the bond i had with her, she flees everytime i get up or get near her, it is tearing my heart apart, she was super close to me, used to sleep in my bed, and jump on my lap all the time, now, it feels like a wild bunny got trapped in my home, and drinks, eats, poops, and sleeps, while avoiding me... i will never give up on her, she brought me out of depression after my marriage ended, gave me so much love when i most needed, now, i have no options but to swallow my tears, and hope, one day she will come back to me(her heart).

I got a bunny last week. He’s 16 months old. He was super sweet and tame when he first came to us but now he’s really coming out of his shell. He has lots of toys and enough space but he still throws his ceramic food bowl around and makes such a mess, he also flicks his back legs when he hops away from me. I’ve heard it’s bunny way of flipping me off. I wish he would just relax a little. He is in a hutch in my outbuilding with a roofed run attached, the run has a small door just enough for me to poke my head into. He doesn’t seem to act territorial but I’m struggling to bond with him as I can’t sit in the same space as him. I also can’t convince him into his pet carrier to move him into the garden for bonding time. Advice welcome pls.

My relationship to my rabbit: - he tries to annoy me - I try to annoy him - he comes sometimes to my feet on my bed or chair to lay there - he wants rarely to be pet - he took over my room as his territory - when I'm away and I put him in his cage he sometimes decides to break out - I share food with him that doesn't harm him (carrots, berries etc.) - And I have to go out of his way if he desires so, even on my bed

He used to run up to us and want attention, but now he runs circles around us, nips at our clothes and head butts us to get away. He rubs all over everything marking it and we are worried he is unhappy. I have made digging box for him as well.

@MinnowMorgernstern5 жыл бұрын
Put some of her favourite foods in there like cabbage and leave the door open. Putting a blanket over the top of the carrier creates a nice dark safe environment. If you are able to remove the lid of the carrier this also makes things a lot easier, especially when you arrive at the vets :) Leaving the carrier in the rabbit's normal environment also helps them to get used to the carrier, rather than it being a unfamiliar scary object :)

My rabbit obviously doesn't like being picked up so I don't do it. But when we're on the vet she always jumps on me and "holds on me". Like, she doesn't go up on my back or like trying to escape extremely, she just jumps on my chest and stays like that until I put her down. She also lays on top of me when were chilling. I guess it happens because she trusts me

My lionhead rabbits hate being picked up. I wish it were different. Our female bunny scratches and tries to get away when we have to pick her up. We have a hard time trimming her nails. Her heart is always racing. We are worried but our vet doesn't think its anything abnornal.

Dual Dasher my bunny does that too and it's so annoying, I don't know how to stop it but but I made it a lot quieter by not giving her a cage cause they're really loud and I put a bunch of towels and blankets on the floor and it softens the noise a lot, I also made a place that's covered with a blanket that she can hide in and made sure not to make any sudden moves cause it spooks her and makes her thump. She seems to be getting better about it after I gave her a blocked of space in my room but she still does it sometimes and it's so annoying, I want my sleep back :(

Rabbits are adorable, but i don't think i could ever get one. i like a big dog that i can bat around and can bat me around, then we go lie down on the couch for a nap. it seems to me that owning a rabbit is like (correct me if im wrong) a Fabergé egg. so delicate, so small, must be handled with the utmost care. playing with rabbits looks more like being careful with them and less like playing with them. Adorable and floofy, but i don't think i could do it.

My bunny is fine with being picked up (sometimes, there are times when he is not happy, so I let him be) If you want to pick your rabbit, you first have to create a bond (like shown in the video) rest on the floor, let them investigate you, let them get used to your scent. After that for the rabbit to feel relaxed you should pet him (with his consent, some rabbits hate touch, some other my rabbit though are lazy pompon that only wants pets 24/7 like mine) pet him on/ off for at least an hour. After the rabbit is relaxed wait for him to investigate the room and gain confidence, do not pick him up if the rabbit is laying relaxed on the floor. When you pick a rabbit remember that they are a prey animals, so don’t DARE pick the bun up from his back/fur cout, the ONLY good way to pick a rabbit up is with all his 4 legs sacured on you and your hands. Do NOT for the love of g d, turn your rabbit upside down, showing to you their belly, that rabbit you turned isn’t happy, he is so scared he froze. Important to note: the rabbit should have a way to go down on his own (make sure not to “cage him” with your hands, a trapped rabbit is a frightened one), if your rabbit breaths fast, he isn’t calm he is scared sh*t less, let go of him. If your rabbit eyes are wide open he might be in fear. Ways to see if your rabbit is OK being picked: When my rabbit is on my lap he snuggle and sometimes flops, he close his eyes when I pet him and even fall asleep, you can see a rabbit is relaxed by his eyes, wide open eyes are many times sighs of fear, closed and lazy looking eyes- he is relaxed. Don’t forget that the rabbit decides when to go, not you. When my rabbit no longer wants to sit on my lap, he jump from me to my bed and to the floor on his own and goes to rest on his place. If the rabbit wants down, let him down.

My most dominant bunny likes petting if she is the first one to be pet. If I pet any of the others first she attacks and bites me. I am not allowed to pet cats or dogs before petting her either. I am hoping she calms down some when she gets spayed.

My rabbit is 5 yrs old now and she's always been aggressive. It's not like she is antisocial or anything, she's very curious and playful, and asks for petting a lot. However she loves to bite! I tried everything during these 5yrs but nothing works. She has different intensity bites, but even the soft ones hurt a bit. She bites while licking, after you pet her (when she asks to), when you ignore her...

@DexGypMom7 жыл бұрын
Hello Anna ~ To answer this question, *_Get a new veterinarian!!_* Any vet who knows your rabbit is strictly a pet not involved with 4H or showing competitions or breeding would HIGHLY recommend spaying your female. Studies conducted at a university in Ontario, Canada and, I believe, the Univ. of Michigan proved conclusively _ALL_ unspayed female domestic rabbits succumb to uterine cancer by the age of 7 and it is always fatal. There are resources to back up my statement at : *www.rabbit.org* which is the main site of the House Rabbit Society. Besides teeming with the very latest and best information regarding indoor pet domestic rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculi), the site also has links to the HRS chapters located within the USA that possess the names of rabbit savvy veterinarians in your area. If you want your precious baby to live beyond 7 or 8 years old, _PLEASE,_ visit the HRS site. Another person in whom I have every confidence when it comes to rabbits is Dana Krempels; her dedication in providing the best info for rabbit folk has been a life long vocation. This is her site: www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ _I have been a bunny slave for nearly 20 years and volunteered at a shelter expressly for rabbits for over 8 years._

Washing your rabbit, even in warm, not hot, water can kill them. They freak out! It can cause them to go into shock and die or they may catch a disease. Also, if you aren’t part of FFA or 4H you should most certainly get it spayed or neutered! This will prevent certain cancers, aggressive behavior, and unwanted pregnancies!

I have unipolar. Everyone's solution is drugging someone with anxiety. You arent slaving her anxiety. You're covering it up. You see that she's better and calmer. But really she's being ignored and misunderstood. Drugging doesn't stop her emotions. It just makes it easier for you. It's like giving a hyper kid adhd medication. It doesn't stop hyperactivity. It just traps the kid in their own mind like a cage. Everyone thinks the kid is better or "fine". Emotions is a work in progress. A lot of work. But covering up her problems dont fix the problem.

@101rabbits, I’ve recently adopted 3 lionhead sisters. I adopted one and had her about a month before I decided to adopt the other two. They are 20weeks old. They’re too young to spay and they are having a hard time reintegrating. The two I adopted together are bonded and great. However, one of them is very aggression towards the first one I adopted. What do you suggest?
