I'm not even talking about this case at all, but I find it so petty that some people are so needy that they'll only give love back if they receive it first. you really have to be weak and emotionally bankrupt to be upset about a cat being scared of you and ignore it for that reason.

@@user-kq6ki5bn2k, I imagine that being in a shelter is traumatizing for all animals, especially the older ones as they are much more aware as to the sounds and smells. We always adopt from our local shelter and our last adoptee was an adult male Maine coon, but I knew nothing of their breed until then. Shelter pets are the best pets because they know you rescued them and many times they rescue you too!

I did that when I was 14 with a stray border collie mix dog that immediately stuck to me like glue. After my parents finally decided to let me keep her, the whole month of August I spent roughly 18 hrs per day/night comforting her and sitting and laying with her because she was so sickly from the deworming and other meds the vet put her on. She was only like 2 years old and was definitely abused, neglected and dumped. She never left my side and never needed to be put on a leash.

Yeah, some people think stray and feral are the same thing. @Hooch Smeeth like you said, not meowing. The type of vocalisation you see in this video isn’t that of a feral cat... And yeah, hissing and screaming can happen, but isn’t that also more common in semi-feral felines? As in, living on the streets but having some form of human contact (via feeding, for example)?

I really wish shelters would STOP labeling cats as feral when they really are just scared! Too many cats get euthanized because people are too lazy to actually take the time to do their jobs. Also, they need to stop labeling certain cats as "rescue interest only". It's BS.
@Gaius__
@Gaius__ 3 жыл бұрын
Same with dogs. Most shelters simply don't have the staff, especially properly trained staff, to make the distinction. I think most shelter employees and of course all volunteers try their best, but are simply overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of animals in need. The best medicine for that is TNR, and of course pet parents neutering their fluffies.

They either label them wrongly as feral out of laziness or because they couldn’t turn them into normal house cats.. and the rescue interest only is just to tame said cats..it’s a warning so people don’t adopt it thinking it’ll be like any other cat, because it’s not, it’s scared and all claws which a lot of people don’t tend want to deal with that.

Animals don't do that. For us, it's heartbreaking to see deformation but they don't care too much about these things. My cat was also labelled aggressive and feral. His ear was tipped and although the shelter felt he could be rehabilitated, I was warned that he was "basically un-adoptable" and that if I didn't bring him home, "no one would." I was a novice cat owner afraid of taking on too much and failing my cat, but that second bit really tugged at my heartstrings. I immediately adopted him and within 1-2 days, it was OBVIOUS that he had just been scared out of his mind. It wasn't long before he was sleeping on my bed and even letting me pet his belly, LOL!

My three-legged boy Kyoto came from the streets. He was one of the ferals I was feeding and one day I noticed that he was dragging a broken leg around. For two months I tried to catch him without any luck as he would zip off quick as lightning whenever I tried to go near him. Then one day, out of the blue, he came to me meowing while I was feeding the other ferals as if asking for help and amazingly he let me touch him! So I quickly bundled him up into the carrier I already had on stand-by in my car and shipped him off to the vet. Unfortunately, the bad leg had to be amputated. I brought him home after the surgery and for several weeks had to endure countless bites and scratches from him whenever I fed him and tried to touch him. He was so feral that I even contemplated releasing him back on the streets after he recovered, thinking that he simply wasn't happy being a house cat. Turned out he just needed a little more time and patience. Today he is my sweetest, most docile furbaby who loves kisses and cuddles. I'm glad I gave him a chance, and I'm glad he gave me a chance too.

I had a stray who wouldn’t let me pet him for 8 years... he attached to my feral who defined the word scaredy cat. When the feral passed, he attached to my most gregarious stray I had adopted. All of the sudden he decided to try to get on couch with everyone and see what cuddling was like. Now he is the most cuddly cat I have ever owned. It is like he is trying to make up for all those years he wouldn’t participate in the ‘family cuddle time’ (which consisted of a huge Newfoundland, boxer and 3 cats (since he and Buddy wouldn’t participate). He is now my only cat & older and he lives for our cuddle time. 🥰

@@AxxLAfriku nope. I would never support dropping out of school for any reason. Even Taylor Swift who was winning Grammy’s and worth millions in her teens finished high school and she regrets not having gone to college (I suspect she reads a lot and still learns a lot). The minute you voluntarily close the door on education, you shut the door on future opportunities. And while you can become a KZbin star (maybe), it takes only one mistake to fall right back to where you started. Stay in school.

@@pawwalker3492 exactly that's what a lot of shelters don't understand is the stress that the feral cats go through when they get stuffed into a crate. Another thing I'll never understand is again with vicious dogs. Time and funds spent on rehabbing - maybe - dogs with very questionable background, when there are sweet and lovable mutts and such needing homes. They get ignored, too. Priorities need to be reassessed.

Right? When we adopted our cat, my mom found out that the shelter was JUST about to put her to sleep because she was “violent and aggressive” and my mom had to BEG them not to put her down so we could come and pick her up. What did this little kitty do that was considered brutal and violent? She nibbles our ankles sometimes when she wants us to turn on the sink.

It makes my heart hurt to see the fear in his eyes and to think about how difficult and terrifying his life must have been with his disabilities. Thank goodness this lovely lady snatched him up and has him in a safe, loving home now.

God, do I love cats! This just shows how strong they really are. It's like they are able to perform the emotional holding action until the calvary(you and me) arrives. Then they blossom. It's so sad that sometimes the calvary never arrives. I've been the calvary twice now. I wish I could be owned by more cats.
