Thank you for your posts Spence.. They mean a ton to me! Not a typical person to leave a comment, never fished for fish with whiskers.. Once caught a “Walter” that was tagged from a fish n game services that I released.. Clipped the metal tag and sent it in.. Turns out it was from another waterway like 50ish miles from where I caught it.. Was 28” and I sent the specs in with the tag.. Pretty freakin cool..

You should actually hook them between the eyes and they'll live for hours that way. When you hook through both jaws the fish suffocates and dies quickly. It will still work but you lose the thrashing and swimming that attracts the huge flatties.

I'm sorry to hear the fishing is so rough right now. Flathead fishing is on fire right now on the Susquehanna River in South central Pennsylvania! You should come give it a try some time! 20 fish nights are not uncommon! Flathead fishing is becoming a big thing around these parts. State record has been broken consecutively every year for the last 3 years! Just wanted to let you know where they arrrrrre biting 😂 😉😎 Keep up the work man. River grinding can be brutal but eventually the river will send you what you're looking for! Stay certified!
@Hookset7172 жыл бұрын
@Eli Benda flatheads are still somewhat new to the Susquehanna. They are technically invasive and have basically taken over. They haven't been in the river long enough to produce 100 lb fish but it's only a matter of time now because the river is basically over populated with them.
@Hookset7172 жыл бұрын
@Eli Benda also in Pennsylvania for it to count as a new state record the fish must be kept alive and safely released! I have heard fish stories of guys catching ones 60+ but it's pretty tough to keep a fish like that alive and transport it to a certified scale. We have local flathead tournaments that last 48 hrs and you haven to bring your 3 biggest flatheads in alive for weigh in.

Spencer, I just got the ok from IL and IA DNR to use this processed Asian Carp for bait for catfish. I will let you know how it works. Just to be sure I am able to prove that I am legal, I have the printed copies of the emails sent by the Conservation officers who answered the questions I asked. Steve Douglas has a recent post/video on this stuff posted 3 days ago. It is a bit pricey as far as old dead carp goes, but when the bait aint bitin, it may be a good alternative.

I recall a day at the ft.gibson dam to share. As you know a cable is across the river near the dam preventing casts near the dam. The river was down exposing rock islands, some guys showed up with a large piece of styrofoam and trolling motor attached. A rod was tied to the 'boat" and bait tied to balloons was laid on the boat . They ran this next to the dam the bait was pulled off of it ....the balloons never floated strait off the boat and under. Big catfish every time, the boat and fish were reeled in. This was cheating to us as we stared at this through the giant wads of line and hooks on the cable. Gate sirens finally ran them off . Early 70's ingenuity .
